Liberty's Edge

Sarastal quickly shouts to close that door before more unfriendlies appear through it. Her words go unheard by Yselle though as she goes over and peers into the room as Sarastal asks Manjenko whats in that room. The small dragon answers as it flutters about the room but as far away from where the spider things came from, I assume its the lair of that spider creature there you just killed. Meanwhile Yselle peeks into the room and sees a very dark chamber riddled with dizzying tunnels and twisting corridors formed by cobwebs. The floor looks sticky, lumpy mass of webbing and doozens, if not hundreds of bones-many of which seem to be from humanoid bodies. Some of the webs seem to shimmer and dance, almost as if reflecting rainbows in the silken forms.........Movement in the room catches her eye also, more creatures are heading her way fast. Bearn moves to help with the closing of the door but will he be in time to keep the creatures out.

Still in full battle mode Thelix shrugs off the help by Inros and the poison coursing through his veins and attacks the dead spider creature thinking in his mind it is still a threat. He hacks the dead things body into a further bloody mess splattering anyone close by him and himself as he falls to the floor the poison taking a greater hold on him now.....

[spoiler]State your actions! Thelix one more point of dex damage(3 total so far) and roll another fort save vs the poison!

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 fortitude save

"Ewww, Inros! It's dead already!" scolds Yselle, apparently unconcerned about the warrior's deteriorating condition. She then shuts the door.

"There's more critters coming out. Let's get out of here before we end up spider-food!'

"Close the door! Close the door!" Sarastal shrieks helplessly.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix attempts to stand and head towards the door. "Let me at them" he shouts. "Gorum give me strength"...His arms and legs don't seem to be working like they should.

Dwarf Fighter 3

Baern continues on to the door, hoping that his dwarven constitution prevents him from meeting the same fate as Thelix.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

Inros jumps over to help Baern close the door.

Liberty's Edge

Seeing the spiders in the room Yselle quickly shuts the door closed while Sarastal yells to close the door! The rest in the room are moving quickly to the door to close it also. Thelix slowly gets up and stumbles to the door to face the next threat but all he finds after his slow wobblely walk is Inros and Baern in front of the closed door making sure it stays shut. As Thelix waves back and forth his inner strength seems to come back to him as he fights off the poison from the spider creature. The pale skin color starts to change before everyone's eyes as Thelix seems to be going back to his normal sheen. With the door closed the heroes are safe for the moment as the spiders lack a direct route to the group now. It quiets in the room as the ship rocks gently against the dock, the timber holding this ship together groans slightly at the pressure until the water recedes back out into the river. Everything seems ok now but for the spider's bloody ichor soaking the floor and everyone's boots and making a sticky slurping noise everytime someone shifts from one foot to the other........

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

"Sinister potions, nasty privies, and deadly spiders....what else does this ship hold?"

"I say we sink it," says the rogue bitterly. "Set a fire or take an axe to the hull, I don't care how."

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

"burn". "We'd likely set the entire district on fire". "And last I heard Arson is illegal here". "Let's just go in and root them out". "Gorum will protect us". Thelix states, as he takes a few practice swings, trying to work the awkwardness out of his motions.

Dwarf Fighter 3

"We just need to clear the place out and call the watch. They should be able to deal with anyone we missed."

"We've done enough. Let's go and call the watch."

Sarastal searches the room as quickly as she can, detecting magic.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

"Don't you remember". "We're here because the watch is too busy, and doesn't want to deal with these guys". "They are self policing".

"Well I'm not going in there to face more spiders," she replies argumentatively.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix looks equally angry. "Fine!" "I'll do it myself", and starts towards the door.

"Hey!" Baern grabs Thelix's arm. "You're in no condition to fight any more spiders. I'll smash them, just try to get over the poison."

"Thank you brave friend, but I'm feeling much better". "I'm just a little stiff, but I can still swing my sword". "We'll take them out together".

Yselle rolls her eyes and shakes her dreadlocked head.

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix looks at Baern with a wink. "I guess we'll just have to carry all that treasure that must be in there ourselves". "There has to be a reason the King had this so well guarded".

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

"So I guess we will find out what else this ship holds?"

"Yes, let's keep exploring -- but let's check out this room first and recover from the battle."

Liberty's Edge

A slight annoying buzzing in your minds begins before a rush of words from Majenko interupts everyone's thoughts, You all are sooo typical of two leggers, forgetting your purpose and just want to rush off and kill things, burn things or destroy things. If I heard correctly earlier you are here for a singular purpose, to find information, Devargo turned out to be an extra icying on the cake kind of thing. I don't think Devargo's office is in there with all of the spiders and that dead spider creature's lair. Its most likely in here! I say we get the information you seek and get out of here, I am tired of spiders..... He finishes off his little rant as Majenko hovers by the other door in the room that none of you have check out as of yet. Sarastal takes a moment to check the area for any magical properties but finds none of interest in this room! The buzzing chatter in each of your heads lifts but leaves each of you shaking your head as if you need to scratch your brain from an itch....

Is there any heavy furniture we can use to barricade the door before going off to explore the office?

Spoiler:
Just a single small desk!

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix feels a little bad about leaving a room full of dangerous spiders to eventually get loose and attack the crowd above, but what the strange new companion says makes sense.

"I suppose we could just leave a note upstairs explaining what is down here and let the new people in charge worry about that problem". "Lets find the evidence we need, and get out of here", Thelix exclaims as he makes his way towards the unexplored door, stumbling and knocking his knee on something as he heads in that direction.

"I agree -- let's explore the place QUICKLY and then leave. Before we get up to our neck in spiders. Let's barricade this door as well as we can, first."

Sarastal starts moving the small desk in front of the door.

Yselle takes out her crowbar and jams it into the space between the spider-door and the floor. She then retrieves the two daggers she threw at the spiders.

"That should keep them in for good."

Liberty's Edge

As the girls move quickly to blockade the door from any of the spiders from gaining escape, at least from this direction, Thelix stumbles over to the door and finds it unlocked. Still is a slight daze he opens up the door without much thought to any danger that might be present behind it but luckly for him he finds the room empty of danger except for furniture he might run into of course. This wooden chamber is clean and dry. An ornate bed rests against the far wall, while a single dresser and a round table and chair fill out the rest of the room. A wooden sea chest sits at the foot of the bed.........

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

Thelix steps into the room, and looks at the chest first thing. "Yeselle, he hollars, I believe this falls within your area of expertise", as he nods his head at the chest. "Perhaps you could give a look and see if it's safe to open this thing".

"Oh, at your service, my master," says Yselle with as much sarcasm as she could pack into those six words.

Perception to find traps : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Disable device if there is a trap : 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Sarastal will check for magic yet again.

Liberty's Edge

Thelix calls Yselle to help with the seachest knowing she is the best person for the job and to his credit he is right as she easily opens the chest after checking it for any little tricks Devargo might have put on it, taking her time the others wait patiently as she works forgetting it might be easier to open with Devargo's key but so much has happen since his death. It matters little as she lifts the lid and a vast amount of items jumps out to the group lighting up the eyes of Sarastal as multiple auras jump out of the chest at her. Devargo's treasures could feed someone for a long while. a jasper studded amulet, a gold necklace fitted with emeralds, a mother of pearl horn, a ring that bears a tiny jade dragonfly, a scroll, a elixir, two pouches full of what feels like sand but even finer and six sacks full of gold coins. In addition the chest contains the last two scandalous letters written to Ambassador Amprei from a woman named Verania Tvastiox, the young wife of one of Amprei's superiors back home in Cheliax. The letters are quite salacious and exacting, leaving little room for misinterpretation........

Little else in the room is of interest compared to whats in the seachest. The scroll, ring, elixir and the two pouches are the only items giving off any auras Sarastal notes as the group dives into the chest like they just hit the jackpot!

Yselle laughs joyously at the treasure piled up around their feet.

"I never dreamed ... ! This is why I chose to be an adventurer!"

"So wait" Thelix says with frown. "You don't want to fight anything, You want to call the guards to deal with things, and you bristle when I ask you to look at the chest..." But this is why you became an adventurer". Should the rest of us just kill everything, spring all the traps, talk to everyone, and call you when we've uncovered the treasure"?

"I'll just never understand some people".

Thelix shakes his head, and gathers up the letters, reading them then refolding, and placing in his belt pouch. "This should be good enough for our purposes". "Let's gather up what we want and get out of this hell-hole".

Sarastal giggles with glee. "Magic! Look at the beautiful magic!" She helps the rest scoop up the valuables in preparation to leave quickly.

Yselle laughs mockingly at Thelix as she gathers the loot into her sack. "Why would I want to get into any more danger than I have to? I want to retire young, rich and in one piece!"

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

"Don't rust your iron underpants, Thelix. We all have our different reasons for being here, some noble and some no-so-much. What matters is that we are getting the job done. And we are all in danger as those crazy spiders showed us. But you are right, we got what we came for, let's get out of here before someone gets killed."

Liberty's Edge

With the mission finished now all that is left is to leave this den of vice and report back to the Field Marshal. Thinking it is going to be a task to leave Eel's End turns out to be easy as pie, everyone in the area as heard of Devargo's demise and the place is in chaos, small fights, shouting at one another and an influx of people trying to take advantage of the situation. Looting seems to be the fun for the moment as people grab whatever they can. Some of the enforcers are trying to gain control hoping to take Devargo's place by asserting their muscle which is causing more chaos. The results of Devargo's death by your hands have actually helped your leave taking, its an easy thing to pass through all of the confusion unnoticed and be on your way with the letters and treasure in your bulging pouches. As you walk away out of the area, safely a few blocks away from Eel's End you look back and spot smoke rising in the background as fires have now broken out. Your group made it out at just the right time it seems.....

Majenko wings his way above you, you sense a great happiness from him as he whirls around on the winds above Korvosa. His freedom however does not take him to far from you as he follows along in lazy circles around your group!

It takes a little while to return to Citadel Volshyenek and to the office of Field Marshal Cressida Kroft but you make it with no other issues along the way. Handing the letters to the Field Marshal she gives each of you a big smile and begins to read the letters while all of you wait quietly. She blushes as she reads and quickly passes them to a clerk for safe keeping. These should work perfectly should the need for some leverage against the ambassador ever come up! I thank you all for your hard work and help to keep Korvosa as stable as we can with the current problems we face these difficult days! She pulls out a large bag of coins that clink on the her desk as she sets them down in front of you........

Spoiler:
I will leave it there so you can chat with her if you like and tell her the results of what happened.

"Don't you think we deserve a bonus for all of our hard work?" Sarastal asks politely, her eyes shining with greed. "After all, we did the city a service by removing this deplorable crime lord from power once and for all."

Male Human Cleric 2 / Fighter 1

"Always ready and able to help out the people of the city", Thelix grandly states. He then attempts a deep bow, but for some reason he still lacks his normal marginal coordination, and stumbles forward almost falling, and having to grapple the Lady Captain to keep from hitting the ground.

"Oh...Ummm...excuse me...I...I must be a little lightheaded you know...all the excitement", and then realizing where his hands have landed he takes a staggering step backwards almost falling over Baern as he retreats.

He then decides just to stay still and not say much..."but as I was saying we're always ready to lend a hand"...then remembering where his hands had just been he turns a seemingly impossible deeper shade of red, and begins to pull at the collar of his blueberry stained armor..."Hmm it seems to be a bit warm in here, could someone open a window or"...then he notices he is rambling, and everyone is looking at him in either pity, amusement, anger, or dis-belief, and decides to finally just shut up.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

"I think what Thelix is trying to say is: we are always glad to help, and if you have anything else that needs done, let us know! Please excuse his clumsiness...we've learned to!"

Dwarf Fighter 3

Meanwhile, Baern stands there looking uncomfortable. "I helped to make sure you all didn't get yourselves killed, not to blackmail some diplomat who had eyes for his boss's wife..."

Yselle sees Kroft blush and wishes that she herself had taken a peek at the letter. There wasn't all that much that Yselle hadn't already heard, seen, or done herself, even at her young age. But it would be interesting to know what these upper-crust types find embarrassing.

"There, there Baern, blackmail is such a strong word. Marshal Croft is just wants to remind the ambassador what the best interests of his people are. And trust me, keeping us alive is a very good deed, in my book," she says with a wink.

Liberty's Edge

Almost knocking over their payment Thelix steps back a bit red in the face as the Field Marshal smiles at him and then Sarastal. Here she points to the large coin pouch on her desk is a further reward for your help, five hundred gold coins plus I imagine you have the coins from what I gave you earlier to bribe with and any of Devargo's trinkets you collected should be enough but I am very happy with your success for going above and beyond in Korvosa's service so here is a pseudodragon's mark, a medal telling everyone you have served the crown and Korvosa well! She sits back down as the words of her last statement leave her mouth. For the moment I do not have any work for you at this time but unrest remains in the air and I will undoubtly be contacting you all real soon. Please take some time to yourselves and rest up, eat some good food, drink many strong drinks and spend your hard earned coins, I will be in touch! With that she dismisses you to your own pleasures.....

Outside you all stand there looking at each other with smiles on your faces and pockets bulging, now to decide how to spend it.....

Spoiler:
Each medal is worth 400 gp! Day of rest, what do you do? Do you research the items found? Go buy things? Sleep? Eat? Let me know, I will work on XP to see where we are at presently!

Male Human (Chelaxian) Urban Ranger 3

"I am gonna go check on my family to see how Tara is doing. Anyone want to meet up later for some dinner and ale?"

Spoiler:
