Any good sandboxing modules from Paizo?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Really, I'd be happy with either modules or other products, just something good where the PCs drive the action entirely with their expeditions.

I'm thinking of the Vault of Larin Karr and the Lost City of Barakus as I write this, but I'd rather something from Paizo since they make the best modules in this universe, or any other.

Not really.

Curse of Bloodsworn Vale is pretty darn good. It has a 'timeline' approach to most main encounters, and involves a fair deal of adventuring and exploring.

I second this, the Bloodsworn Vale is a great "sandbox" module.

"Sandbox"? Not familiar with the term in regards to RPGs. Can someone explain it's meaning for me, please?

I've heard "sandbox" used mostly in video games, to describe a game where instead of being dragged along, stage by stage, you get a wide variety of quests/missions to explore at your pace, picking the ones you like, forgetting about the unnecessary ones you don't. Good contemporary examples of this include the Grand Theft Auto series and Mass Effect (Xbox 360).

I found the "Backdrop" articles that Paizo published in Dungeon were the perfect source for a "sandbox"-styled adventure, even if you just picked out some of the adventure hooks to embellish into sidequests or full-blown adventures. Personally, if Paizo were to run a series of module-like backdrops like the ones from Dungeon were, I'd pick up as many as I could grab. Those things were pure gold, not just for DMs looking to craft the illusion of a world where the players could go anywhere or do anything, but for the players to feel more immersed in the setting.

J3 Crucible of Choas is another one. Plug it into any mountainous region and let the players go.

Ah... okay. So rather than being a story to follow, a "sandbox" adventure would be more of a setting to be explored, like the OP's examples of "Vault of Larin Karr" and "Lost City of Barakus".

I missed these but from what you're describing, I too would definitely grab them if Paizo made a series of them.

Actually, I don't think a series of small side quests would be a bad idea as they would provide something to stick in-between the chapters of an adventure path or even in the middle of one like "Edge of Anarchy" where days and even weeks pass between the events/missions.

Starting with Second Darkness they will have a small mini adventure in the Adventure Paths.. no idea how they'll tie-in but maybe they'll be something there.

The Pathfinder Companions will occasionally take this approach, sort of. The third PFC, frex, is all about Osirion. In addition, the Guide to books (Korvosa, Darkmoon Vale, and Absalom) should also scratch that itch in their way. :)

Wahoo, I'm planning an Osirion game (for whenever I happen to get a chance to run it). I hope I get the book before I need it. Otherwise I'll be relying on the Gazetteer/CS and making up the rest.

The Osirion one comes out in December. :)

That's good because I currently have no estimate as to when (or even if) I will be running a game. Until then, its just one of those "ideal" games we'd all like to run.

I understand. My ideal game involves various contests to see which teams of gninjitas and kunoichi can bake me the yummiest desserts fastest.

Oh wait... you were talking about D&D... oh... um...

;)
