Iron Man - Advance Screening

Movies

I just got back from watching the new Iron Man film.

It turns out that Jon Favreau (the director) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) are going around the world doing press interviews and whatnot, and they are here in Korea.

The production company contacted AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Services) Theater and set up an advanced screening at the theater on the Army post here in Seoul. They announced that we were the first group to watch the movie... and it was freakin' cool. (Yes... I said freakin'.)

I had the chance to shake hands and get autographs with both Jon Favreau and Robert Downy Jr. Very cool.

The film is great. There are a ton of appropriate references to Marvel universe icons.

You get to see Tony Stark go through a "learning curve" as he develops his suit, similar, I suppose, to Peter Parker fleshing out his abilities.

The fight scenes are cool.

The special effects are as good as Transformers.

All in all, they didn't screw up Iron Man. Really good film, I can't wait for the sequel.

Oh, and a quick spoiler.

Spoiler:
Tony Stark is Iron Man. :)
Just go see it!

Rockin'!

I found out about the movie shortly after I won a Hero system Marvel Slugfest tournament at a local game convention using Iron Man as my character. It was a very fun PvP fight with last man standing getting a cup. It was also my first experience with Hero system-very interesting.

My buddy who also competed in the same game is going to the movie with me. Maybe we'll grab some more friends as well.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Damn, they never did anything like that when I was in Yongsan. I'm actually kinda looking forward to this movie.

So, did Robert Downey Jr drink Itaewon dry after the movie?

LOL. I live at the (far) end of Itaewon, and as I was driving home, I was wondering the same thing.

But if what the publicist was saying was true, I'd guess that they didn't. They shortened the meet n greet with them, and said that they had arrived at an ungodly hour and were leaving again at an ungodly hour and were going back to their hotel.

The funniest thing is that if I had seen him walking around, I wouldn't have recognized him. He had a short buzz cut and wore jeans and a t-shirt. He really looked just like any other guy.

Though my wife would add "hot" to that sentence.

When you see him as Tony Stark, that's pretty much the way people think he would be in real life... which is why he is perfect for the role. Seeing him as "just a guy" was really cool.

Dang it! Your taunting and teasing with the spoiler is just too much. I looked at the spoiler and now I fear the movie is ruined for me.

Why, Big Jake, Why must you be so cruel!

~grins~ As an Iron Man fan, I can honestly say that I am very much looking foreward to this movie. I am also planning to treat two of my friends to this movie.

I hate you. ;-)

This is one of the summer movies I'm really excited about, good to hear it holds up. I was a little worried it would fall flat from expectations.

That's what I had high hopes for. It's good to hear it came through from someone that's actually seen it.

Dark Archive

I'm on a flight from LA to New York and this is my first Mile high Paizo post !!

Iron Man is the best of the Marvel summer movies in a loooong time, definitely worth the price of admission, although i was lucky enough to get a free screening from my zealous Paramount clients. Buy some stock kids.

I just wish i had Tony Stark's private jet additions on this plane.

and keep an eye out for the Homeland security guy

As Stan Lee eloquently put it, enough said.
