Rapid shot! (1d20+3=6, 1d20+3=23, 1d6=2, 1d6=4)Crit confirmation (1d20+3=13)If it was a crit... (1d6=4)
Kamris swiftly shoots at the fleeing fiend!

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Sir Manfred hastily kicks and levers the burning corpses off the stairway with his shield enough to make a path through and rejoin the fight, only to find it already over. Turning back glumly, he helps Yin through what is left of the burning bodies.

Orlan |

Kamris nods at Orlan and proceeds to regroup, keen to follow up where the goblins were going to go.
Once Orlan reaches the arrow-filled and frozen goblins, he pauses only to search them for anything unusual they might need upon gaining access to the spire.
"Nice shot," he comments to the half-elf, "Help the others up the steps and get ready ta press on. That last one had the look of goin' fer help. So let's see if we can't find'em first and take'em by surprise..."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Klyndak finds little of interest other than a bunch of silver pieces (35 in total) stamped with an image of the Foehammer Spires and the dwarven words '* FOEHAMMER DWARVES * REALLY BIG STONES *'
Peaking through the open door into the room the goblins came from you see an oddly made entranceway. This room contains little more than a pile of javelins, rags, piles of rotted meat, and crude drawings.
To the left near the front of the room you see a narrow passageway that comes to a deadend. At the back of the room, on the left, is a passage that heads deeper into the spire.
Map will have to come later tonight.

Orlan |

Klyndak finds little of interest...
Klyndak! We found yuh already!

Orlan moves inside and gives a derisive grunt at the crude drawings. "Goblin bastards draw about as well as they fight..." he scoffs.
The dwarf takes a moment to examine the deadend passage for any interesting features that might explain its purpose. If his kinfolk did build this place, perhaps they included the side passage for a specific purpose? After his examination, Orlan then leads the rest of the party to the lefthand passageway.
"Let's show'em what's what, right?" he encourages, "We be tossin' these goblins off the spire even if we have ta do it one at a time."
He puts his hand on Kamris' shoulder to hold the half-elf in place. "Let me be leadin' the way this time, elflin'..." he suggests, "Once they see a true Hammerfoe comin' at'em, they'll be knowin' fear alright. But come in close behind me, you and Yin. Move ta either side of me when I go chargin' 'em and pick off what yuh can."
Lastly he looks back at the heavily armored knight. "Manfred? Once these two guard our flanks, you follow me straight inta battle," he says, "The little devils are bound ta try and get around me ta stab me in the back, cowards that they are. That should bring 'em right ta yuh blade. So do me proud, lad. Give 'em a taste of steel and leave none alive!"

Doh! I did it again.

The side passage ends in a peephole that allows the goblins to spy down on the storage and work room with the portcullis that you bypassed without entering. Going in there would have allowed the goblins to get reinforcements before facing you on the stairs with the flaming body trap.
As you get deeper into the spire, you will need to do something about light for the humans.
Orlan, heading off down the passage without accounting for darkvision not being a universal trait, hears the sound of hissing, scratching, whining, and yipping. Peaking around the corner, he sees an overturned basket surrounded by three intimidated but curious goblin dogs. Two goblins are poking and prodding the dogs, encouraging them to turn over the basket.
You passed the portcullis, climbed the stairs, entered the 'guardroom' and are now looking in on the 'training session'. A hide banner of a broken bone wrapped in a bloody worm hangs an the end of the room. There is a door opposite you.

Orlan |

The side passage ends in a peephole that allows the goblins to spy down on the storage and work room with the portcullis that you bypassed without entering.
"Connivin' little bastards," Orlan mutters on his way past the others. He suddenly realizes they'll be having a harder time of seeing in the dark. So he approaches Yin with a suggestion.
"Yuh got anythin' to light our way, girl?" he asks, "A bit o' light should help us see...and keep the goblins from hidin' in the shadows."

Orlan can feel his hatred of the goblins bubbling up inside him. Strangely enough, he feels his hand starting to burn where he clenches the haft of his waraxe. Shifting it to his shield hand, he flexes his mailed fist with concern. It just feels...odd. Then, a drop of something wet falls from his hand to the floor, sizzling where it lands. With his eyes growing wider, he opens his fist and sees a greenish glow of divine energy starting to fill his hand with an acidic substance. He recognizes it as a holy source used to etch the dwarven runes of power on the weapons of lore handed down by Torag himself.
"Aye, the Forge Father be with us this day," he grins. He looks back at the others assembled behind him. "There be two more with three o' their rat-dogs," he explains, "We take'em just like I said. I'll charge'em and give'em a surprise straight from Torag. Yin and Kamris? Yuh two move ta the flanks and hit'em from afar. Manfred? Yuh stick close ta me, son...and we'll take'em down in short order. Ever'body ready? Let's go!"
With that, Orlan charges around the corner, hurling the greenish blob of liquid that filled his hand at the nearest goblin. Then he switches his waraxe back to his fist and wades into melee.
Acid dart attack with ranged touch... (1d20+4 = 14 to hit, 1d6+1 = 5 damage)
This is essentially Orlan's discovery of Torag's Earth domain power. It's a ranged touch attack (ignores armor) against one of the goblin handlers.

Yintarah Fireweaver |

As the route starts to get too dark for human eyes Yin quietly murmurs a spell, small illusionary balls of flame sprouting from her hands and rising into the air to light their path.
Casting of dancing lights
As the dwarf launches his spell she moves into position to fire off an attack of her own.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Sir Manfred maintains his positon covering Orlan's back and attacks to either flank:
Longsword Attack: (1d20+3+2+1-4=11)
Longsword damage if hit: (1d8+3=11)
Shield Bash attack: (1d20+2+3-4=12)
Damage if hit: (1d4+3=6)

The acid runes, the flame, and the shield all connect resulting in one dead and one wounded goblin. The goblin swings with his horsechopper at the up-close-and-personal knight. The dogs, however, remain a threat.
ROUND 1
Goblin
Kamris
Yintarah
Manfred (I'll need four more initiative rolls -- Manny often gets in fights)
Goblin dogs
Orlan (I'll need four more initiative rolls -- Orlan also gets in fights)

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Sir Manfred Initiative rolls:
Initiative Rolls: (1d20+2=16, 1d20+2=16, 1d20+2=3, 1d20+2=8)

FabesMinis |

Rapid shot vs goblin dog (1d20+3=17, 1d20+3=7, 1d6=3, 1d6=3)
Kamris performs his by now habitual rapid fire technique against the angry dog-things.
How are we working on arrow retrieval? It just occurred to me...

Yintarah Fireweaver |

Orlan |

As the goblin dogs snarl and snap all around him, Orlan keeps his shield steady in front of him to ward off their hot breath. Then, he winds up a powerful swing with his waraxe and sweeps it below his shield in an effort to take out their legs. A satisfied grunt emerges from the dwarf as he feels the blow solidly connect.
Orlan's attack... (1d20+5 = 25 to hit w/ natural 20, 1d10+3 = 13 damage)
Confirm critical threat... (1d20+5 = 23 to hit, 1d10+3 = 10 damage)
23 damage?! I'm speechless. That's just about the most damage Orlan could ever do in a single blow. Wow. That's gonna be one messed up dog.

None of the three dogs manages to sink their teeth through the hedge knight's armour. Orlan unleashes an unnecessarily vicious attack on one of the dogs.
The goblin takes his horsechopper and digs deep into Kamris' thigh. 4 points of damage.
ROUND 2
Goblin
Kamris
Yintarah
Manfred (2 attacks this turn)
Goblin dogs (two left, both wounded)
Orlan (I'll need four more initiative rolls -- Orlan also gets in fights)

Orlan |

The goblin takes his horsechopper and digs deep into Kamris' thigh. 4 points of damage.
Kamris? Don't you mean Manfred? You had him fighting the knight last round. And I thought Kamris was shooting arrows from range with Yin and her fire rays behind me and Manfred anyway. Did the goblin just run past us to get to them? Would we have gotten any AoO's if he did? [/metagaming] ;)
Orlan (I'll need four more initiative rolls -- Orlan also gets in fights)
Next four initiative rolls... (1d20+2=4, 1d20+2=13, 1d20+2=18, 1d20+2=17)

Yes, it should be Manfred. That's what I get for posting so early in the morning. Manfred, you can beat Orlan up in the parking lot after school. ;-)

I'm sure the "unjustly accused" Kamris will be there ta back me up! Sorry, Manfred. I can always patch yuh up later. ;-)

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

When Sir Manfred's turns roll around; Sir Manfred maintains his positon covering Orlan's back, flinching a little from the damage to his leg, and attacks to either flank:
Longsword attack #1: (1d20+2+3+1-4=17)
Longsword Damage #1: (1d8+3=10)
Shield Bash attack #1: (1d20+2+3-4=6)
Shield Bash damage #1: (1d4+3=4)

Longsword damage #2 (if hit): (1d8+3=6)
Shield Bash attack #2: (1d20+2+3-4=2)
Confirm Critical Miss: (1d20+2+3-4=17)
*Whew. No damage, but I get to keep my shield.*

Yintarah Fireweaver |

Giving a wince at seeing the nasty blow to poor Manfred's leg Yin focuses her energies on one of the wounded dogs, praying to Nethys for an opportunity to take out the goblin and his beasts as quickly as possible.
Ranged touch attack (1d20+2=22)
Fire Ray Damage (1d6+1=4)
Critical threat (1d20+2=18)
Crit Damage (if confirmed) (1d6+1=5)

Orlan |

Manfred and Yintarah manage to kill the two remaining goblin dogs leaving only the nasty little goblin with the horsechopper and a basket with something underneath.
I highly doubt the poor goblin will survive until Orlan's turn, but if not...
Orlan's attack... (1d20+5 = 18 to hit, 1d10+3 = 11 damage)
...that ought ta do it. They're ain't no fury quite like a dwarf when cuttin' down goblins.
P.S. I noticed Yin's last fire rays are only doing 1d6+1...and since she's 2nd level now, it should have gone up to 1d6+2. Yet more burnin' power from the queen o' flame. ;)

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Perhaps Kamris was scouting the room and went without his turn.
With the last goblin or goblin dog chopped down, you are free to explore the room. You have a basket that something seems to want out from under. The room contains sleeping areas that you assume are for dogs but may be for the goblins. There is a banner hanging on one wall of the room.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Do I recognize the insignia on the banner?
Knowledge: Nobility-- (1d2--1+1=3)
"I recognize that banner! It is the King of Abasynnia; but how came it to be here? Are these goblins his leige-men?" Wonders Sir Manfred aloud.

Orlan |

Knowledge: Nobility-- (1d2--1+1=3)
Dude...you do realize you just rolled a 1d2...got a 1...subtracted a -1 (for a net of +1) and then added another +1...to get a result of 3? You might want to go back and reroll it as 1d20-1+1... ;)

"Hunh...what be this?" Orlan nudges the basket with his foot. Then, he hooks it with his waraxe and tips it over while keeping enough distance to split whatever's under there in two, if necessary.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

I thought I'd had my go?
It doesn't show up on my screen. Nothing since ROUND 1.
As soon as Orlan has tipped the basket forward, a small goblin-like head emerges and belches a disgusting cloud of what-died-in-your-mouth stench. DC13 Fort save for Orlan and anybody else within 5' of the basket.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Sir Manfred peers closer at the banner;
Knowledge: Nobility-- (1d20-1+1=4)
"Wait, maybe I... No, I'm certain of it; it's the King of Abassynia's I assure you."
He leans over Lord Orlan to get a better view of the basket.
Fort Save: (1d20+6=10)

"Augghh! Son of a..." Orlan starts to complain, then sights the goblin head and brings down his axe.

Kamris |

Kamris draws his sword and goes over to aid his leader in combat against the... snake.
Attack (1d20+2=16) If I can flank that's an additional +2

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Sir Manfred attacks the creature that bit Lord Orlan.
Longsword attack: (1d20+2+3+1=11)
Longsword damage if hit: (1d8+3=7)
What happened with the save?

Yintarah Fireweaver |

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

What happened with the save?
You are 'sickened' -- Sickened: The character takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks.
Despite feelings of nausea that may persist, the party has dispatched the snake as well. Now that you have time to see the room you are in, you notice that the walls and banner may have once displayed a different symbol. The bloody worm embracing a broken bone is painted over an earlier symbol of a bloody worm.
A quick search of the goblins offers nothing more than 38 silver pieces.

Orlan |

The snake doesn't seem too fond of Orlan either and thanks him for freeing it from captivity by sinking its fangs into an unarmoured part of Orlan's leg.
"Ahhh...yuh, connivin' little snakes," Orlan grouches, "I always knew yuh goblins was one generation removed from 'em..."

"I'm not sure I be likin' the looks of either of those symbols," Orlan notes as he binds up his leg. Once he finishes, he puts away his axe and contemplates their options. "Well...assumin' ever'one's still alright...let's be pressin' onward. There's bound ta be more o' these snakes to root out of here. Maybe then we can figger out what happened ta muh cousin..."
I don't recall all of the exact exits available, but other than collecting the 38 sp, we're ready to move on, I think.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Orlan |

There's a banner on one wall. There is a door opposite the hall through which you entered. You could also go back the way you came (through the guard room) and continue up the outer stairs.
"Ahh...there be space behind the banner," Orlan realizes, "Let's check it out and see if the sounds o' battle alerted any more o' these snake-kin..."

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Pulling away the banner reveals a room prepared for a shaman of some sort. Various trinkets and pouches are scattered around. Bones that may be thrown to predict fortunes lie in a circle on the floor. Obscene and profane sketches cover the walls. No one other than you appears to be in the room right now. A corridor extends from the room's top left corner.

"Foul spirit- and devil-worshippin' junk..." Orlan comments. He doesn't bother searching through the bits and pieces lying about. Instead, he proceeds straight to the passageway, expecting to find more goblins.

While Yintarah attempts the difficult task of discerning which pouches contain dead pets, which contain spell components, which contain a goblinoid version of trail mix, and which contain all three, Orlan follows the corridor until it comes to a dead end. A hole in the floor here smells of death. Looking down, he can see the dark surface of murky water and feel a definite chill.
