Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

He'll take 10, and use the chain to climb down

1d20=13
As Rellios descends, a wave of regret comes over him - he nearly loses his grip on the chain! Thoughts of his dead foster brother - he should have protected him better - mix with the images of Dareg's terrible plunge over the cliff. Why!?

His breathing finally slows down, and he manages to steel himself for the final descent. Still, the feelings linger for some time. How long, I am curious to know?

You're gonna feel like s~!! the entire time you are on this level or until ... ha, that would be tellin'.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Bugger!

All four of the party have reached this level. Steam continues to trickle into the room. They are all aware of the sense of grief that hangs in the air here but only the elf seems overcome by it.

The room is the same 'hammer-shape' that you might have expected. The doors between this room and the next are chained shut to keep someone or something in but the chain is very old and could easily be broken.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I cast remove fear on Rellios

Seeing the pitiful look etched onto the elf's face, Hru offers a prayer to Gorum. "Give this one courage to face our next battle, Iron Lord I beseech thee!" and giving a quick hand motion, envelopes Rellios in the Battle Lord's blessing.

It's a very small stretch as Rellios was more under a 'grief' effect than a 'fear effect' but the sense of hopelessness is the same. Rellios will behave as normal for 10 minutes. ... no taking 20

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

it does say +4 on morale type saves if cast before, and removes fear effects if cast after...I figured "shaken" is an effect, so the warm goodness of Gorum will make him feel better (just trying to use something other than bless and CLW :)

I agree. So, he will behave as normal for ten minutes without the shaken effect. ... Is someone going to open that door? ... It's okay to say no and it is okay to run away from a fight. ;-)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Hru moves over to the door and examines the chain.

Is it breakable by hand (str surge) without undue violence or noise? (not at least till everyone chimes in and we're set for eventualities) my Greatclub/holy symbol's ok for combat? if not I'll sheath (unless they took my sheath too) it in favor of one of my hammers

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Hru's blessing temporarily shakes off his melancholy, so Rellios checks the door and puts his ear to it to see if anything is apparent within. Perception (assuming the effect is off for now) (1d20+7=24)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"What do ya 'ear?" I ask Rellios as I position myself with my crossbow so that I can shoot past the elf into the chamber beyond.

"When Rellios be givin' the go a'ead, ya be openin' it," I tell Hru and I raise my crossbow to my shoulder.

Rellios:

Spoiler:

You hear a low womanly wailing.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Klyndak wrote:

Rellios shivers slightly at what he hears.

"I hear a woman's voice wailing...My guess is it would be some further specter haunting this place. I hope Hru's clerical skills are up to the task..."

He eases back away from the door, and preps his bow.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Well I 'ave one o' those magical bolts loaded so we'll be seein' 'ow effective they are."

I nod at Hru to go ahead and open the door.

You could try breaking it by hand but one solid hit with a weapon should do it too.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

But that makes alot of noise....c'est la D&D

Hru decimates the chain with his mighty greatclub, and cautiously opens the door

Steam billows out of the room. It takes more than twenty seconds before you can see inside to realize the purpose of this room. Clareg and Klyndak instantly recognize it as a dwarven sauna, which are usually built around a natural hot spring. A well in the centre of this room gives off steam. Stone benches line the room. And will hinder movement to some degree. The wailing continues. A chain, like the one you saw upstairs, begins in a stone and continues all the way to the well. It is from the well that a low sobbing wail rises.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Looks like none o' us wants ta be the first ta be lookin' over the edge o' that well," I say with a wry grin. Nevertheless, I edge forward, crossbow still at the ready and peer down into the depths of the well to see what is chained down there.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I believe it to be another imprisoned soul...maybe we can get some info out of it(her)

Hru looks back at the others as if to ask: Well? and then begins to advance into the room, towards the sound of the sobbing. Being raised in the wasteland that is the Cinderlands, he has no idea what this room is for.

This must be one of those elemental summoning chambers I've heard tell of, I just don't get dwarves...

As Klyndak reaches the the steaming well, the twisted hands of a dwarven woman appear at the lip of the well hauling up a deformed and extended body. The woman may have been beautiful once but now her eyes burn with an unearthly hatred -- a hatred from beyond the grave, a hatred that has kept her from properly dying for these 500 years. The chain is fastened to her gnarled ankle.

Hru and Klyndak who were the first to approach have the advantage of a surprise round before the round proper. They can make a standard action during this round.

SURPISE ROUND
Hru
Klyndak

This will be followed by...

ROUND 1
Hru
Sleeping Beauty
Clareg
Klyndak
Rellios

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"The undead!"

I cry out in revulsion as I scuttle backwards (five foot step) and loose my bolt. My aim could be better, but I truly do not like the undead.

Firing Magical Crossbow Bolt: (1d20+2+1=11)
Damage (if applicable): (1d10+1=8)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Drawing his shiny new sword-like holy symbol, Hru calla upon the power of Gorum with a cry of "Gorum protect us!" Holy energies cascade from the "blade"

[ooc]turn undead turning healing (also recall improved turning feat +2 to DC) (1d6=5)

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

[ooc]Cool, your using your channel positive energy for turning! "The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Charisma modifier." So, the DC = 10 + 0 (for level)+ 0(for CHA)+ 2(for improved turning) = 12. She makes her save.

The wailing woman avoids Klyndak's bolt and then turns her angry gaze towards the half-orc and whispers in a voice dripping with loathing "Now look what you made me do ... what you made me do to my son!" and points towards the well.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Assuming she's still targetable by time I go; and that we haven't engaged in friendly conversation by then. Also, I assume Hru's spell is still in effect, so no penalty for now...

Rellios doesn't wait for a discussion, but let's loose with an arrow.
Bow (1d20+4=24) Damage (1d8=7)
Confirm critical (1d20+4=21) Critical Damage (1d8=4)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

she still takes the 5 damage right (and we get the 5) or is it all negated by the save? I'll look it up when I get home

Hru wastes no time in bringing the pain of the living down on her.

I'm assuming since you haven't said no that I can use this as a great club, attack;damage (1d20+4=19, 1d10+4=8)

Everyone gets the healing if wounded but she only takes half damage from it.

The wailing woman swings both arms towards Clareg. He fends off one attack but her talons penetrate his chain with the other. Clareg takes 14 points of damage.

He replies by swinging his waraxe down and chopping into her shoulder. 9 points of damage. The damage she receives from Rellios well-placed arrow and Hru's great club seems less than one might expect.

MALE!! Dwarf!! Fighter Level 3

"She's cold! Comes out o' that steamin' pit and she's as cold as the grave!"

Kannonfodder wrote:

"COLLLLD! I'm sooo cold!!" she says preparing to attack again.

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

You guys were all fresh as daisies, right?

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I was down 1

With a wail of "GORRUMM!" Hru attempts to remove her head but whiffs badly.

1d20+4=7, 1d10+4=14

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Round 1: I move back another five feet and seeing that the weapons of the others were less than effective, I cast Magic Weapon on my Warhammer.

"Try usin' yer magic spear," I shout at the elf, "'N lets be seein' if we can be movin' ta be surroundin' her!"

That five fixed the 1 hp I was down.

Sleeping Beauty attacks Clareg again, raking her claws across his unprotected face. For another 14 points of damage.

ROUND 2
Hru -- Acted
Sleeping Beauty -- attacks Clareg
Clareg -- Acted
Klyndak
Rellios

"Cold. Yuh cold-hearted b$&+*!" responds Clareg followed by another successful attack of his own. "First short-beard I met that I did not like even a bit." 13 points of damage.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I move around the undead woman, out of her reach until at last I am across from Rellios. Then, delaying my action until he moves into position, I close in and attack.

Flanking, Attack with magical Warhammer: (1d20+3+2+1=12)

"We can be takin' 'er," I grunt, though my weak swing belies the truth of my words. But I hope my stategy will help Rellios to land a telling shot with the arcane spear.

Rellios has a turn before next round, I believe.

Klyndak wrote:

Wasn't certain if I still had it, but looking at the thread - I don't think Hru ever actually said he had taken it. So....

Rellios, charges in to strike the cold woman, hoping to get her away from Clareg. He's unfamiliar with the spear, blades being his trademark weapons, but manages to make what he hopes is a painful strike.

Spear (1d20+2+1+1+2=25) +2 (Str) + 1 (BAB) +1 (Spear) +2 (Flanking)
Damage (1d6+2+1=8)
Sneak Attack (1d6=3)

Edited for adjustments

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

The Short Spear is a simple weapon and therefore Rogues are proficient with it.

And don't forget your sneak attack. ;)

Klyndak wrote:

Ah..my bad. I thought it was a one-handed martial melee weapon. Let me do some revisions.

As Rellios' spear cuts into the back of Sleeping Beauty's hip, it pierces a pouch of gems and jewels hidden within her robes which spill out onto the floor with some rolling into the well.

ROUND 3
Hru
Sleeping Beauty
Clareg
Klyndak
Rellios

She glances at Rellios as she takes his spear and hisses "Dark elves. Behind it all. The evil spreads."

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Do you mean she disarms Rellios or that she takes a wound from the spear?

Klyndak wrote:

Damn, I wrote that? I meant she 'takes his spear in her side'. Frankly, I'm surprised how well you guys are doing against her.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Hru once again attempts to remove her head with a wail of "GORRUMM!"

Destructive smite: +1 damage;all threats confirmed attack/ damage (+1D.S.) (1d20+4=12, 1d10+6=10) nevermind :( no extry damage +crit)

Sleeping Beauty lashes out one last time against Clareg, her cold dead talons ripping flesh and bone. Clareg falls to the ground unconscious and she turns her attention on Klyndak.

"Regent!" She hisses at Klyndak like it were a foul word and then in a hollow and unearthly voice mocks Klyndak. "My baby's dead. You cannot have him. He's dead. He's dead. Now you have no prince!"

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

And a bit unerved to be the focus of the undead hag's attention, I swing my hammer at her.

An attack: (1d20+3+2+1=14)

I assume that misses. :/

"A mother killin' 'er son is a wicked, wicked thing woman," I admonish the creature and then I shout at the priest, "Hru, Stop yer thinkin' like an Urk-iga! Be usin' that wand or yer divine energies! We be needin' Clareg!"

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Rellios again attempts to attack the cold hag, but the fact that she's still standing after having had the spear driven into her has clearly shaken him.

Spear (1d20+2+1+1+2=7) Critical Fumble (1d20=16)

Let me know the bad news. Assuming she doesn't come after me, my next step may be to recover the spear, since it seemed to do some good.

A series of fumbles on the part of the party have given her time to recover. The gaping wound left in her flesh by Clareg's axe has begun to close as whatever power has kept her from rotting away to nothing continues to work on her. Clareg lies unconscious at her feet as she turns her attention on Klyndak whom she seems to mistake for someone else. The chain clanks at her feet as she lurches towards Klyndak preparing to attack.

ROUND 4
Hru
Sleeping Beauty
Clareg
Klyndak
Rellios

You guys are in enough trouble without worrying about a critical fumble.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Hru once again calls on Gorum's power and a wave ethery goodness spreads from hit mighty blade-like holy symbol. "Gorum show us favor!"

Channel positive energy turning healing (1d6=6) wooohoo! why the hell is the save CHA based? evryone gets 6 (dc+2IT+1CL=13)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

The healing does me absolutely no good at the moment, but give me just a second and I bet I would be thankful for it. :p

DM: How long is the chain attached to her?

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Thanks, Hru. Like Klyndak, I'm afraid it does me no good right now :-(
Hopefully, it will heal Clareg up some. On my turn...

Seeing that he's been given a chance to recover, Rellios again charges with the spear. Striking hard as he can to impede her progress.

Spear (1d20+2+1+1+2=19)
Damage (1d6+3=8)
Sneak Attack (1d6=5)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Assuming I'm still standing...

Once more with the Hammer: (1d20+3+2+1=22)
Damage: (1d8+3+1=5)
