OOC: I think Hru wants to reroll damage. 1d6+4 seems pretty weak for a critical with a greatsword. Last I looked that should be 4d6+8 or somesuch. ;)
Saw Hru's edit and thought I would point out - you still only rolled 1d6 instead of 2d6 ;) And... "A CRITICAL HIT MEANS THAT YOU ROLL YOUR DAMAGE MORE THAN ONCE, WITH ALL YOUR USUAL BONUSES, AND ADD THE ROLLS TOGETHER." Which means that instead of (2d6x2)+4 it should be (2d6+4)x2.

Hru Gorumgrag |

Crap!! I just thought it was a bad roll, I didn't notice that I only rolled 1d6 garn!!
But from the SRD:
Exception: Extra damage over and above a weapon’s normal damage is not multiplied when you score a critical hit.
I took that to mean you get your bonuses (+4) once and 2x damage from the weapon damage which I've just been 2xing my first roll and adding my bonus for ease of having to repeatedly caress the invisible castle (I'm on a hot streak but when it ends is anybodies guess) alpha 2 is up (as if anyone on here might not have noticed....)

Some bonuses get doubled; others don't. Your strength bonus counts as "all you usual bonuses" and gets in there. If this was a flaming great sword with +1d6 fire damage, that wouldn't get multiplied. ... So this one should be 4d6+8 damage.

Rellios |

Ugh...been a long night and it will be an early morning. Anyhow:
Rellios will report his findings later, for now there's bat wrangling to do. Good call, orc! Had no clue.
For now, he'll attack whichever bat is closer to his position - Klyndak's ideally for a combo attack.

The elf is good with the swords but the bat's hide is tougher.
Sad to say that both of Rellios' attacks missed. They threatened a critical but they didn't achieve it. With increased threat ranges: "A roll of lower than 20 is not an utomatic hit. Any attack roll that does not result in a hit is not a threat".

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Rellios once again avoids getting bit but another furious bat impales itself on Hru's sword while biting him.
Clareg, Klyndak, and Rellios attack but do not hit the bat that is attacking Rellios.
One bat is left and he's bat$h!t crazy wanting to kill you. I can use Hru's stored rolls but Rellios should get a chance to tag it first.
ROUND 2
Rellios
Bat
Klyndak
Hru
Clareg

Rellios |

Rellios again tries to hold off the bat, but his strikes only tickle the beast.
Rapier (1d20=7)

I'm going to assume that I needn't roll damage. *Sigh*

Don't feel bad. They're just leathery ... on the other hand if Rellios wants to get some black bat-hide armour to compensate for his lack of 'Unnatural Beauty' then now is his perfect chance.

Klyndak |

Flanking attack on Bat: (1d20+2+2=14)
I move across from the elf to attack the bat, though as its wings flap and keep my blows from landing soundly, I can do little more than provide a distraction.
Rellios, don't forget a +2 for flanking (and a sneak attack). I was reading Alpha 2 this morning and realized I had been forgetting to add a +1 to my attacks vs. goblins. :/

You hadn't? I was looking at all those plusses and thought you were. Guess some were spell effects.

Rellios |

Again, Rellios tries to put the beast down, but has little success with all its flapping around.
Rapier (1d20=13) Short Sword (1d20=6)
Thanks for the flanking note, but I'm not certain the +2 will help in this case. Still - that's a good point from my first strike two rounds back - if Tarren will allow for a retcon

Klyndak just moved across for the flanking now. Probably was some flanking set up with four characters against one large creature but let's just add it in next time.
The bat, vicious thing, sinks its fangs into Rellios' arm. 7 points of damage.
Clareg misses on his attack, as does Hru.

Klyndak |

Thanks for the flanking note, but I'm not certain the +2 will help in this case. Still - that's a good point from my first strike two rounds back - if Tarren will allow for a retcon
Heh. Of course it wasn't until round 2 that I mentioned I moved into flanking and you did attack before I moved in Round 1 anyway. Sorry.
Another Flanking attack: (1d20+2+2=7)
"Argh!" I cry in frustration as I once more fail to connect.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Three goblins have emerged from the room with the strange hissing noise from the corridor on the top right. They wear leather aprons instead of armour and carry dogslicers. They will enter combat the top of next round.
EDIT: Which turns out to be now.
The goblins cross the room quickly and two attack Hru while one attacks Clareg. Hru gets cut by one of the ugly little dogslicers 3 hp., Clareg by another 2 hp.

Klyndak |

I try once more to hit the bat, but its hide is thick.
Again with the hammer: (1d20+2+2=17)
A seventeen misses on the bat doesn't it?

Yeah. He's a tough critter but doesn't do much damage.

Rellios |

Perhaps it is the desperation of the situation, or maybe the bat's deep bite, but it spurs Rellios to make another flurry of strikes. Something in the blows strikes true!
Rapier (1d20=4)
Short Sword (1d20=20) Critical Hit (1d20=10)

Hru Gorumgrag |

are all my rolls gone? in case they are prepare for gobbo paste! Also Rellios I would hate to heal the bat but I can unleash the positve energy of Gorum, just say the word (under the auspices of Hru casting a glance in the direction of that fight every now and again to make sure no ones badly wounded) attck:attack; damage (1d20+4=10, 2d6+4=12)
Hru calls to Gorum as his sword blurs with frantic motion "GORUMMM!!"
his growl resounds through the chamber and the sword whistles as it sweeps above a ducking goblin's head narrowly missing the foul freak.

Rellios |

Sounds like you have enough trouble right now for a healing turn to be effective. I'd hate to say wait until Rellios goes down, but I think it would be hard to tell what condition he's in until that happens - since it's crowded and the sword's light keeps flasing all over the place in combat. Playerwise - I can say he's down by half his HPs from the bite attack, so I'm a bit nervous - but I remain optmistic.

Klyndak |

"'Ey Priest," I shout, as I see him attacking the goblins, "Trade me foes. Me 'n Clareg can be takin' those goblins. Yer long sword may be more effective against this long winged thing!"
On the next round, I can move away from the bat and attack the goblin attacking Hru and he can move over, flanking across from Rellios. That sound good?

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

The bat decides this room is getting all too crowded and attempts to drag Rellios outside where they can have some privacy. He fails to get his claws around Rellios though.
Clareg takes care of one of the goblins attacking him but Hru takes damage from both goblins attacking him. 3 points of damage.

Klyndak |

I follow through on my strategy and taking a step away from the bat, I move in to attack one of the goblins attacking Hru.
Attacking a goblin: (1d20+2+1=16)
Damage: (1d8+2=4)
"Taste yer death vermin," I growl as my hammer connects.

Klyndak |

"Ya think I needed 'elp 'ere? My arm is enjoying the exercise."
"Aye, was it," I say with a grin, "just as well, all the same, that I was softenin' 'em up fer ya just now. Wouldn't want ya to be strainin' yerself before we be findin' those three with the bows."

Hru Gorumgrag |

Hru wheels from the goblins as the dwarves enter the fray, turning with a cry of "Blood and Souls for Gorum!!" he leaps at the bat bringing his huge blade to bear on the giant rodent.
I'm sure somebody gets an AoO on me but regardless:
attack;damage (1d20+4=17, 2d6+4=7) [ooc] oops forgot the flank...that's a 19!

Kannonfodder |

Kannonfodder wrote:"Ya think I needed 'elp 'ere? My arm is enjoying the exercise.""Aye, was it," I say with a grin, "just as well, all the same, that I was softenin' 'em up fer ya just now. Wouldn't want ya to be strainin' yerself before we be findin' those three with the bows."
"Two, waren't it? I think I saw one flyin' over the side after yuh 'it 'im."

Rellios |

Bolstered by Hru, Rellios will press his attack to finish the bat off:
Rapier (1d20=17) Damage (1d6+2=8)
Short Sword (1d20=18) Damage (1d6+1=4)
If flanking is in effect for Rellios - not certain at this point - then attack rolls would be 19 & 20 instead. So I included damage this time. Also included sneak attack, in case it applies.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

The bat is hurt ... badly ... Any ordinary bat would attempt to escape but this is not an ordinary mammal. It is a remnant of an older race of bats from a darker and more vile age.
Instead of fleeing it latches onto Rellios shoulders and attempts to drag him out of the cave.
Okay guys, kill the bat this round or there is a very good chance Rellios dies. If the bat doesn't go down, it will attempt to maintain its grapple and then drop Rellios off the spire.
Both Rellios and the bat have the 'grappled' condition:
Grappled
A grappled creature is being restrained by another creature,
trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take
a –4 penalty to their Dexterity. A grappled creature takes
a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver
checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple.
In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that
requires two hands to perform. A grappled character that
attempts to cast a spell must make a Spellcraft check (DC
15 + the spell’s level) or lose the spell. Grappled creatures
cannot make attacks of opportunity.

Klyndak |

Telekinetic Fist: (1d20+1=21) !!!
Confirm Critical?: (1d20+1=12)
Damage and potential critical damage: (1d4=1, 1d4=2)
From my spot away from the bat I focus and motion and unleash my Telekinetic Fist. It strikes a blow.
Now a ranged touch attack (made against an opponent with a penalty to dexterity!) so I don't know if I did 3 or 1 points of damage.
"Grab 'old of it!" I yell at Clareg as it moves Rellios towards the entrance.

Rellios |

Both Rellios and the bat have the 'grappled' condition:
OK - hoping it doesn't come to this. But if it does - if I am reading correctly - then my only hope is to break the grapple. My current CMB is +2, so as long as I am only working on breaking the grapple, that would be included in any d20 roll I make to break free. Correct?
That being said, if things still look bleak after that point, I have another theoretical - one which may stretch the boundaries of ruling and in no way am I suggesting it would work without some awesome rolls on my part and DM's largesse. I can discuss here or leave it off until we reach that point of getting dropped off the side of the cliff.

Hru Gorumgrag |

"NO!! GORRRUUMM!!" Hru howls in rage at the thought of another companion going over the side as he sees the bat latch onto Rellios.
attack;damage (1d20+4=15, 2d6+4=10)
I didn't add the flank (I'm not sure if it's just part of the minus 4 to dex from condition:grappled) but hopefully that's bat-suey!!

Kannonfodder |

"Grab 'old of it!" I yell at Clareg as it moves Rellios towards the entrance.
"Where ya goin' with 'im? I been growin' fond of that elf," Clareg shouts swinging his waraxe for a solid hit. Afterwards he looks over his shoulder, ready to respond to a jibe from his brother which does not come.

Tarren the Dungeon Master |

Between the telekinetic fist and Clareg's waraxe the bat is down. Hru may claim some credit for this as well but the dwarves would be right to contest it.
After the flurry of battle the room is suddenly silent except for the breathing of the warriors and the unsteady hiss coming from the other room.

Rellios |

The sudden fury of the battle over - pain, blood loss, and adrenaline cause Rellios to take a moment to catch his breath. As he counts the coins in the pouch Klyndak gave him, he explains,
"The hissing is coming from some strange contraption that is steaming and boiling in the next room. There's metal pipes in it travelling over hot flames and pipes filling casks - with what I don't know, as I came back to assist before I checked further. The noise probably kept the goblins from even knowing we were here - until they walked in here and were a bit surprised."
There's a sharp wound visible from puncture marks in his leather armor around Rellios' shoulder.
"I wouldn't mind some healing, Hru - but only if you can spare it, I think I could manage otherwise, but I'd need some rest soon enough."
He pauses slightly and briefly adds, "Thanks, friends. I felt pretty useless for a moment there - not since the day I had to watch my younger kinsman die of a poisoning wound had I felt a moment like that."

Hru Gorumgrag |

Hru wipes the blood off his blade onto the bat carcass then pushes it over the edge, He then raises his sword aloft and calls to Gorum. "Your servant calls for aid! Gorum!" he rumbles, and the familiar ripple of divine energy spreads from a gleam on his blade.
turning healing:Turning healing (1d6=5) that was #2 for the day, everyone gets 5
Sheathing his sword he turns to Rellios and and pronounces "This one needs strength to continue the battle, your chosen calls" laying on hands. spontaneous cast CLW;CLW (1d8+1=4) not spectacular but ok (Gorum doesn't like to heal)
