Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Was that Rellios who was hurt?

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Ye'll be singin' a different tune soon me lad."

Attacking again: (1d20+3+2+1=19)
I assume that misses but just in case, damage: (1d8+3+1=9)

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Well....

Rellios will glance around to see if there's any other weapons lying about that "Mr Serpent" might have made. If nothing becomes apparent, he'll try and fail to even hit the thing in his moment of inattention.
Rapier 1d20+2+2=14
Short Sword 1d20+2+2=12

Klyndak wrote:

It was, he missed you with the poker but he got Rellios' with the tail slap. He tried to grapple Rellios' and make him his "pet" but he did not succeed. He does not currently 'own' Rellios.

using my previously rolled dice this round my attack gets 22+2 for flank=24 with 8 damage

Hru grimaces at the strangeness of the hammer but aims a decent shot at the snakeish being!

next realtime roll I get Hru's going to see red

That one already was used. You need a new roll.

We went through three rounds since your last post. ;o)

MALE!! Dwarf!! Fighter Level 3

Klyndak is right. Thanks for the three combat rolls in advance; they came in handy. We currently need a new one from you. ;-) ... or maybe we don't. I rolled for Clareg in advance and got a natural 20 which, with bonuses hits for 8 points of damage. Enough to end this.

"I'm beginning to think, / you're enjoying this game, / but I'd much prefer, / to extinguish your flame ..." says Clareg swinging his axe and bringing the creature down.

"I ... You may be the best, / I'm 'ardly the worst / ... ," continues Clareg mumbling to himself "No, I can do this ... 'When it comes to the rhyme, / You've got me this time ...' ... Damn! That's harder than 'e be making it sound, eh?"

Clareg is still mumbling to himself looking for a rhyme with 'snake-head' long after you are certain the creature will not be rising.

The creature's flame does not diminish. Rather his form crumples away until he resembles nothing more than a pile of extremely hot coals.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

By me beard, I was lookin' ferward ta the next round, I 'ad a twenty-fer ta 'it :/

""Ey Clareg," I say, "I be 'avin' a rhyme fer ye,..."

“At the forge stood a lizard o’ fire
‘E claimed ter be a foe most dire
Me ‘ammer ‘e met,
‘Is skull I did split
Now ‘is soul will be flyin’ up ‘igher.”

"Exceptin' o' course that it were yer axe doin' the final splittin'"

I look around the room, taking time to examine it properly.

Detect Magic o' course.

Klyndak's detect magic reveals ...

Spoiler:

... that the magic circle on the floor was indeed magic.
Big surprise, eh?

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

GARN! I was going to drop a RAGE!! oh well did I take any damage? it seems not, but it also seemed that you had only used 1 round :/

Hru stares at the warhammer with a sour look on, then casts his gaze about for that red hot hunk o' metal.

Is the forge still lit? or was it a product of the magic? is the metal and whatnot here? It's a DC 20 to create a masterwork great sword, and if all the materials are here, and everybody doesn't mind a brief respite I'll try it (I believe, for me at least, this is a first! atempting to craft something in a dungeon)

Me player was after postin' about this just now in the discussion thread. I advise ya ta be readin' it afore ye start.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

So are there any weapons or items of interests in the room? We know there are forge tools and ore. Is there fuel for the furnace or treasure?

Klyndak does not find any other weapons in the room. Although the elemental generated much of the heat himself, over the past 500 years, he has used up much of the coal that was left in the forge room. There is very little there.

The hottest burning embers in the room are those left when the body of the salamander crumbled. They continue to glow red hot with no sign of cooling.

All the tools necessary to work the forge are available in the room. There is some ore and the metal that the elemental had been working on continues to glow on the forge.

As for your decision about how to proceed, I leave that to you to discuss either in character here or out of character in the discussion thread.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"'Ow 'urt are we. I would suggest checkin' out some o' the other rooms today, the issue o' food, whilst not immediate should be looked into as far as we be able to."

The chunk of metal left on the forge would not be enough to make a 8lb weapon. There is other metal in the room.

"Between the hammer blow to my ribs, and the serpent's tail lash, I've been better...but I can proceed on a bit longer. (Down to 7 hps - so let's keep the surprise attacks to minimum, eh?) Especially if we can find some food or healing magicks."

"Once we do stop for the night, we'll need to give this wand and bolts a once-over."

"What say we try the doors to the southeast next?"

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Rellios will give the room a once-over again to see if he spots any hidden doors or trapdoors, etc. I'm guessing that he'll find nothing.Perception (1d20+7=9)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"The door ta the southeast be fine, 'n iffin yer too 'urt, stay be'ind wit' yer bow 'n such."

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Klyndak wrote:
"The door ta the southeast be fine, 'n iffin yer too 'urt, stay be'ind wit' yer bow 'n such."

"Fair enough...let me get the door open first."

Assuming the door is locked, Rellios will unlock it first then step back to let the others lead the way for now. If needed:Disable Device (1d20+5=20)

Opening the door to the Southeast reveals a very familiar scene. This is another 'hammer-shaped' room containing an iron cage elevator that would descend from this room to a lower level. It does not ascend. A thin wisp of steam rises from the elevator shaft.

Your XP is now 2860 I believe. Not enough for third level.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

"Looks like another elevator. Do we descend or finish the floor by checking out the doors to the Southwest?"

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"I think we should be checkin' the last room on this level and then we should be allowin' the priest ta be 'ealin' us afore we be descendin' further. We 'ave enough ta be occupyin' us fer the evenin'"

By now you should be able to predict with great accuracy the shape of this room. The hallway leading into it is embossed with six runes which Klyndak can read. They are the symbols for: Axe, Gem, Shield, Thunderbolt, Coin, and Hammer. One the floor at the entrance where you are now standing is written in dwarvish:

Spoiler:

Smiths, Warlords, Champions of Old: All praise the Bearded Heroes of Yore! We wal in the shadow of your wisdom and might.

In the room itself, on a central pedestal, sits a silver anvil. Above the anvil floats a golden hammer.

Beyond the hammer are two large stone doors.

Map of this level.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I scan the room for magic, having a good guess at what I'm going to find.

As I do so, I say, "I be 'avin' a feelin' that there be more ta this room than be meetin' the eye. I be thinkin' at the moment we should be leavin' that glowin' 'ammer be. Iffin' it be real, there do be a reason it's after bein' still there. At the same time, I 'ave a real curiousity ta be seein' the other side o' that door. Maybe there will be water 'n somethin' ta be eatin'"

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Before I head off to bed, here are my suggestions, assuming there is nothing immediately threatening on the other side of the double doors...

1) Clareg can take the elevator back to the first floor and bring our equipment and bedding down to this level.

2)I will spend several hours working on Hru's sword, aided by Hru. Before retiring for the night i will spend an hour or so trying to determine the nature of the magical bolts and the wand.

3) Rellios should search the entire level minutely (taking 20). The DM has already hinted there might be more to find so starting in the forge room might make sense. ;]

4) Hru should aid me in beginning work on the sword (giving a +2 bonus). In the morning, he should do what he can to bring us to full health and we can take the time to either go through the double doors or down to the third level.

How does that plan sound?

m other rogue/bard/ranger 1/2/1

good by me...great club, in the shape of a greatsword with Gormum's patented Greatsword thrust thru a mountain symbol bathed in Salamander juice from the plane of fire....indeed

As Klyndak steps forward, the floating hammer seems to direct its attention towards him. As he takes another step, it begins to fly directly at him. Roll for initiative.

I'll respond to the activities you said you may do after we resolve this room. I'll be on and off but mostly off for the next 7 hours. Have to go meet my May-June students.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Initiative: (1d20+1=16)

"Of all the..." I begin and then I raise my hammer, prepared to attack the other hammer though doubting the effeciency of such a course.

Klyndak has initiative over the hammer. Hammer has initiative of 12. I'm away from your pre-rolls so, roll for initiative and make your attacks*. If the hammer survives until its attack, it's attacking Klyndak.

* Or your other actions. I mean, it doesn't have to be an attack. You could try talking to it. It will still attack you but there could be some great roleplaying while you try to negotiate with a hammer that is beating you senseless.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I have a crazy day till about 3:30 4:00 est too

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I step away from the flying hammer, heading towards the door.

"It may not be followin' us outta the room," I say and I unleash an arcane attack.

Ranged Touch attack: (1d20+2=7)

As is normal, my arcane aim is off and I growl in frustration as my telekinetic fist strikes nothing but air.

Five foot step back towards the door.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Intiative (1d20+3=9)
Grapple (1d20+3=21)
Rellios will attempt to grapple the hammer to keep it from flitting about so much.
"How about one of you dwarves stand on that hammer symbol, and bark orders at it in dwarven - maybe it will listen?"

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"There be six pedestals in the other room wit' six items 'n six symbols in 'ere. I be thinkin' we'll be needin' more than a few words to control this thing."

Hope that grapple works. :)

I'm thinking that Klyndak's telekinetic fist is more of a telekinetic sissy slap. ;-)

As the warhammer flies towards Klyndak, Rellios drops his weapons and leaps at it. He manages to dodge the opportunistic attack from the flying hammer and grab it with both hands. The hammer struggles against the elf but does not succeed. Rellios is locked in a grapple with the flying warhammer. Now that you've got it, what are you gonna do with it? ;-)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"You be 'avin' it lad, now what will ye be doin' wit' it," I ask the elf, "I suppose ye could be 'oldin' it on the floor fer us ta be beatin' on it."

Klyndak wrote:

Ya beat me by 23 seconds ... I inserted my question as an edit.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

My sentiment was the same: I've got it - now what do I do with it? My intent was to hold it until somebody figured out if it had a command word - maybe the runes like I mentioned. That being said:

Rellios attempts to pin the hammer to the ground; he strains to keep the hammer down and away from an assault on the group. Pin (1d20+3=19) By the way, don't the PF rules state I have a +5 to my roll once I have it grappled?

Through clenched teeth, he utters, "Either somebody take a guess as to how we shut it off, or I'm going to have to let go and we close the bloody doors and leave!"

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Glad that freakin day is over. Is Hru in there or is he working on the sword in the forge room (more likely)?

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Clareg, be 'elpin the elf 'old it down," I say and then I command the hammer in dwarven, "Cease this behavior good hammer!"

And if that doesn't work I advise us to try and break it whilst it is being held down.

I don't have the rules with me, but I believe we should be able to attack it while it is on the ground and that it will be denied it's dexterity bonus while we do so, correct?

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5
Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

Your choice, but I was hoping you were going to be there to help us. ;)

Yes, Rellios gains +5 on his attempt.

The hammer failed its attempt to break the grapple.

Rellios remains in the grappled condition.

The hammer is now in the pinned condition.

Pinned
A pinned creature is tightly bound and can take few
actions. A pinned creature cannot move and is f lat-footed.
A pinned character also takes an additional –4 penalty to
his armor class. A pinned creature is limited in the actions
that it can take. A pinned creature can always attempt to
free itself, usually through a combat maneuver check or
Escape Artist check. A pinned creature can take verbal and
mental actions, but cannot cast any spells that require a
somatic or material component. A pinned creature that
attempts to cast a spell must make a Spellcraft check (DC
15 + the spell’s level) or lose the spell. Pinned is a more
severe version of grappled.

Despite struggling for its freedom, Rellios has managed to drag the hammer to the floor.

Note: You could have tried this with the salamander but would have taken fire damage each round.

Klyndak wrote:

It crossed my mind...but as you mention...I don't think "fried" elf would be doing anyone any good? ;-)

By the way, another grapple check?

Seeing that Klyndak's pronouncements have no effect; Rellios utters, "Oh well, at least it was worth a try...looks like we'll need to break it!"

OK, when next that comes around - Rellios presses hard to keep the thing in place while the others act. Holdin' it down! (1d20+3+5=22)
Ya! The dice are being kind! Please be my friend, magic dice!

Going to be away for an hour or two. So, in case another check is needed. 1d20+3+5=23 Otherwise, if we manage to end this combat - I'll follow Klyndak's earlier suggestions and check the whole floor for secret doors while they do their thing (taking 20).

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I swing down, being careful of the elf's fingers.

Trying to sunder the 'ammer with me own 'ammer: (1d20+3=16)
Damage: (1d8+3=5)

Edit: Can I take a flanking bonus?
