Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

As Rellios eases back, he decides to take advantage of the relative anonymity to pull an oil flask and throw its contents slightly ahead on the stairwell.

Ideally, if the goblins decide to come down the stairs....that should cause them to slip up. And if those coals are hot...perhaps another surprise as well.

His comrades dashed inside the huts, Rellios will try to stick close to wall...his senses looking for either movement from the stairs or the flap of batwings that might indicate the approach of a winged attack.

Perception (1d20+6=11)

Four minutes (and Hru's 'shield of faith') come and go before you hear the flapping of wings. The batriders do not come from the direction you might have expected. They've flown up over the top of the spire and are diving straight down at you. The goblins are standing up in the stirrups and leaning back as far as they can, javelins ready in hand.

ROUND 1
Hru
Klyndak
Three batriders
Clareg
Rellios

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Without a word I slip back a step into the hut and with a grip on my warhammer I use it to focus my arcane eye.

Five foot step and Cast True Strike using bonded object - Round 1

And then, when that is done, I step out and fire at one of the batriders, the first one I see.

Round 2: Five foot step and Crossbow Attack: (1d20+1=14)+20=34
Damage: (1d10=9)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Hru will fight defensively basically readying an attack till something comes within the sweep of the warblade. They're not in range of melee right?

The batriders are using the same tactics as on the bridge: flying down and attacking with a javelin; flying up and pulling the javelin out; and only grapple when someone is close to an edge, which none of you are.

One of the batriders slings a javelin at Hru and hits despite his defensive stance. 3 pts of damage.

Klyndak kills the batrider targetting him before the javelin can be thrown.

Rellios takes a javelin in the shoulder. 2 pts of damage.

The archers on the stairs have yet to make an appearance.

The now riderless bat that was targetting Klyndak flies up and begins to circle the spire.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

don't make me pull out a javelin!

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:
don't make me pull out a javelin!

Oh, don't worry. The batrider will do that for you.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

As my crossbow bolt strikes home, I cry out, "Fly away 'ome little mouse,"

Then I make a fist and gesturing at another of the flyers, I let fly with a telekinetic attack.

Round 3: Ranged Attack: (1d20+1=6)

It misses.

"Why can't I seem ta ever be hittin' with that fist," I mutter to myself.

MALE!! Dwarf!! Fighter Level 3

Clareg, lacking an effective range weapon, uses his axe to cut the cord from the javelin stuck in Rellios' shoulder.

We'll wait for Rellios' attacks. Round 1 the batriders swooped down from the spire. Round 2 they attacked. Rellios could have gotten a ranged attack in round 1 and 2. The range would be within one ranged increment. By the end of round 2, the bats had swooped over and were already swooping upwards, over the bridge.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Despite the wound, Rellios steels himself and takes a bowshot at his passing target.
Bowshot (1d20+3=21) Damage (1d8=8)
The shot flies true - piercing the rider and hopefully felling him.

Do I take another action? Wasn't certain by your description.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5
Rellios wrote:

Yep. Attacks in Round 1 and Round 2.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Klyndak wrote:

Then, hopefully having dispatched the rider he targeted - Rellios turns and fires at the remaining rider:

Bow Shot (1d20+3=10) Damage (1d8=2)
The last shot whizzes past the rider, his quick turn evading Rellios shot.

By the way, DM - let me know if we come accross any stashes of arrows. I wouldn't say I'm running low - but this rate I'll be out in a couple of days.

You guys just slaughter everything I throw at you!

The last rider sees his allies fallen and flaps off, circling the second spire and does not return into view.

The three archers appear and make co-ordinated attacks with their short bows against one opponent -- Clareg Rolled for it nice and random like. All three hit. Clareg takes 12 pts of damage. They then skedaddle back up the stairs out of view.

Aww man, no slippage for the oil?

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I was referring to my own javelin, am i to understand there's a rope attached to the javelin tjat just thunked into me? if so can I grab it and maybe stick it through the side of a hut and twist it sideways with a buttonhole type maneuver ??(I am allegedly in the entrance way of a hut) just in case I'll give up a STR check
STR check (1d20+3=6) well I guess I don't have to worry about that!

Hru attempts a grab at the javelin dropping his sword to one hand, but misses

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Round 4: Move and change weapons. I move out of the hut and draw out my warhammer, shouting commands.

"Priest, lay off that rope and be takin' care of Clareg! Rellios, be preparin to cover us, we be chargin' those archers! Clareg, ye be 'elpin' the orc blood with that Javelin!"

Moving towards the stairs waiting to be backed up by my teammates, preparing to charge up at any moment.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

Heedless of further Bat-itude Hru leaps to Claregs side and laying ahold of him chants in orc lowly "Gorum heal your servant, for he must fight again."
spontaneous cast CLW for Bless
CLW (1d8+1=4) hope it gets him concious at least!

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Klyndak wrote:

"Priest, lay off that rope and be takin' care of Clareg! Rellios, be preparin to cover us, we be chargin' those archers! Clareg, ye be 'elpin' the orc blood with that Javelin!"

"Alright. And watch out for the oil on the bottom steps. Mislaid plans and all that," he utters.

If it seems possible, Rellios will swing out wide on the platform and see if he can catch the goblins on the stairwell waiting for us to climb up.

Failing that option, he'll follow Klyndak up - step up and a take a shot at them before he charges.

Bowshot (1d20+3=12) Damage (1d8=8)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

As soon as Rellios begins moving out to cover me, I begin moving up, careful of the oil on the first step. As soon as I have a clear line on a goblin, I charge up and attack, confident that Hru and Clareg will be right behind me.

Charging attack: (1d20+2+2=22)
Damage from Warhammer: (1d8+2=6)

"Death fer the goblins! Glory fer us!"

What do you think took them so long to get there?

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

STR check (1d20+3=6) well I guess I don't have to worry about that!

I don't think you need a strength check to tie a knot. I'll also assume you also cut the rope so you could remove the javelin from your arm with minimal damage.

As the bat flies away, the javelin's rope jerks taunt, dragging the hut over, knocking over the iron brazier full of hot coals onto one of the straw mats and setting fire to it. The stone balcony is unlikely to sustain any damage but a piller of dark smoke rises from the balcony.

Tarren the Dungeon Master wrote:

Good point.

As Klyndak charges up the stairs, three goblins fire arrows at the dwarf. Only one of them hits and even then just barely so.

One point of damage. I swear you guys are too damn lucky.

Klyndak's hammer swings upward pounding back one of the goblin's heads and sending the lifeless body for a 500' plunge. <-- I've revised the height of the towers after drawing them. They looked stupid at 200' in height x 100' diameter

Rellios' shot goes wide but he is also racing up the stairs.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Lucky are we! And here I am, missing every other attack. Sheer skill is what it is. ;)

Are the stairs actually wide enough for four to charge up at the same time? As usual, place this post wherever it goes initiative wise:

I continue to move forward, attacking...

Attacking another goblin: (1d20+2=6)

The stairs are not wide enough for more than two to charge up, the goblins are small and can stand three abreast but now that there are only two, that's not even a problem anymore.

The goblins dodge your attacks and withdraw into an opening off of the smaller balcony -- the landing platform if the guano covering the platform is an indication of its use.

Rellios has now just reached you.

Clareg is with Hru. What is Hru doing?

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Awaiting Hru's action at this point, next attack will be, if it's workable:

Rellios will try to take a shot at the retreating gobbos.

Bowshot (1d20+3=18) Damage (1d8=4)

Rellios wrote:

Assuming Kylndak's too much in the midst of all this for a decent bow shot, Rellios will switch to his swords and take an attack on the goblins as well.
Rapier (1d20=15) Damage (1d6+2=3)
Short Sword (1d20=13) Damage (1d6+1=4)

I think with the goblins having initiative, your having to shoot, switch weapons and move up 30+' of stairs, the gobbos are going to get the chance to withdraw to the chamber off of the landing platform.

Your attack will be usable but only after you confirm you are following them into the chamber.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Unless Klyndak decides to charge on, I think I'll wait for the rest of our small band - no sense in getting too split up at this point.

Also, please disregard the bowshot thing - I had posted my melee attack first, but then it didn't show up. Then yours did instead; so I went and rewrote it not realizing it had posted...bloody confusing.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Shall we be goin' in after them," I ask and as we wait for Clareg and Hru to catch up, I cast a wee enchantment on the elf's thin sword.

I assume we are going to take a round to get ourselves together and during that round I Cast light on the rapier.

"Shall we be lettin' the other two 'ave the 'onor's of leadin' the charge," I ask Rellios.

Just so we don't get ahead of them in our posting, let's let the other two take the lead in attacking this time.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Sounds good!

"Thanks! Should make fighting in the dark an easier task," he says with a wolfish grin.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

If Clareg's up than I'll move up the stairs as quickly as possible keeping in mind the oil, if he's still out then I'll call out to Rellios and Klyndak to fall back then, when they're within eyeshot (and 30 Ft) I'll unleash positive energy burst. Hru stares at Clareg for a sign of life.

I don't think the DM ever said he was down. He took 12 hp of damage but "'E's a dwarf."

"Don't ye be gettin' all lovey-dovey on me ya big edjeet. I only closed me eyes 'cause yer breath made me wince. ... Where the 'ell did Klyndak go? I gotta be stayin' wit 'im."

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)
Klyndak wrote:

Pin-cushion might be more accurate right now! ;-)

Clareg and Hru have barely climbed halfway up the stairs when they hear three loud 'SsssssPOPBOOOOM's from the balcony they just left. Straw, dust, and other debris showers the balcony and the stairs beneath them but they are unhurt by it.

Lucky buggers. It took 21 seconds for the explosion. You were out of range with 3 seconds to spare ... Just so you know, I have no qualms against blowing you to smithereens given the chance. :-)

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"There be goin those casks," I mutter, "I never was a findin' out what was bein' in 'em."

"Get up 'ere lads, ye be 'avin' the 'onor of a leadin' the charge agin the two gobbos within!"

Once you are on the landing platform you can see the wide-mouthed chamber. Remnants of the outer wall that would have divided the landing platform from the chamber have recently been knocked down.

Several long dark stalactites hang from the roof of the chamber. In the far corner you can see what appear to be riding harnesses. There are three corridors leading off of this chamber. The goblins are not in sight.

The floor is slick with guano and you can hear a steady hissing sound from one of the other rooms.

Male Elven Rogue/Fighter (1/1)

Barring a charge from my comrades, Rellios will very quietly move toward the first hallway to the right. Pause a moment to discern any new activity in the room, then glance into the corridor.

Stealth (1d20+6=10)
Perception (1d20+6=14)

Gonna be gone for a while; check back in later this evening.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

well I can probably figure the stalactites are bats and I hope the hissing isn't more barrels of explosives, but let's face it Tarren is trying with all the fair and impartial resources at his diposal to kill us at this point! But I'm still going in...

Hru moves in and if the stalactites are bats he'll behead one on the way towards the corridor on the left. "Gorum"

attack and damage on bat (1d20+4=20, 2d6+4=15) WOOT!

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

OOC: You're gonna be mighty emberassed if it's a rock ;) Flying ogres and stalactites will tremble at your name. :D

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

I move in behind Hru and Clareg, hammer at the ready, prepared to charge any goblin that shows itself.

As the stalactites detache from the ceiling of a chamber hewed from the rock by dwarven stonecrafters and fly towards the party, Hru attacks one.

Only Hru gets to act in the surprise round.

The bats fly at the party and bite at both Hru and Rellios. Hru is unhurt but Rellios suffers a nasty bite -- but a mere nip given the creatures size. 5 points of damage.

Hru tags the bat with his greatsword, giving it a nasty gash.

ROUND 1
Rellios
Bats
Klyndak
Hru
Clareg

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

Well what do you know, the orc blood was after 'avin' a good idea. :)

Hru Gorumgrag wrote:

The hissing is steady.

Rellios:

Spoiler:

The hissing is coming from some strange contraption that is steaming and boiling and has metal pipes travelling over hot flames and pipes filling casks. Several goblins work away in here oblivious to all that is going on. It is tremendously noisy and distracting once you get closer to it.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

How many bats are we looking at here :/

Klyndak wrote:
How many bats are we looking at here :/

Two ... two big ones.

Male Dwarf Transmuter 5

"Be focusin' on one of them at a time!" I yell

Unless Rellios kills it, I charge at the injured bat.

Charging at a bat: (1d20+2+2=10)

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

"Pests!!" cries Hru as he wheels about, he throws his back to the wall on the left and casts a quick glance to the left towards the leftermost corridor before confronting any threat.

At least dead ogre's will still tremble in fear for their legs at the mere mention of the Chosen of Gorum, rocks it seems get off scott free (for the time being) Perception (darkvision) (1d20+3=5)

Just a note sometimes I put an attack roll or a spot (as here)(oops perception) that's for "if" something happens It may or may not be my turn or circumstances may not permit..like Rellios said he'll be back later so I'm cool with waiting I'm just on now...(I know this seems obvious but just sayin...oh yeah Hru's next attck roll:
attack; damage (1d20+4=24, 1d6+4=5) crit!! (1d20+4=21) BzzaNG!! oh yeah I just been 2xing the original damage roll (not including STRand2hand damage) on crits but if you want I'll 4d6 it nexttime...but this ones 6 damage
