Karzoug as a Pathfinder Alpha Wizard?

Rise of the Runelords

How would a Karzoug stat block look using the Alpha rules Wizard class? Do we keep Archmage in there, or just make him a Paizo Wizard 20?

I'd be willing to spend some time working him up, but figured I'd post first to see if anyone has either already done so, or has any ideas.

Cheers!

Nice job! Thanks for pulling that together. Doesn't look that much more powerful than the actual version, just more SLA at 1/day and a different way of presenting his cantrips (which he wouldn't cast anyway in a final encounter most likely).

please delete... wrong thread

How about an update on this one to include the Beta rules and the new prestige class rules. No more archmage, for instance.

Dark Archive

Honestly, I think it would be funny as all f&ck to keep Karzoug's stats as-is. after all, back in the days of Thassilon, they hadnt invented the 3.P rules yet. Hells, if I could manage to wrap my head around them, I would run him as a 2nd edition wizard.

If i was running runelords as a 4th ed game, I would still keep Karzoug's stats as-is, and he would be using strange, unknowable magics from before the modern age, when wizards could "summon," and "save-or-die" effects roamed the earth.

If I were making Karzoug using the current Beta rules, I'd just make him a flat-out single-classed transmuter. The Beta rules took great steps toward making the higher level end of the classes worth taking, so in theory there's no need for the archmage prestige class anymore; being a high level wizard does the trick by itself.

Karzoug kicks it old-school. He's a Magic-User from Basic D&D.

Well, being "out if it" for 10,000 years would make him the definition of "Old School" :)
