I saw on wizards site that there will be a demonomicon for yeenoghu. James, are you going to be writing this?
Nope; I'm not. I wasn't asked to write it... the first I heard of it was from EN World's messageboards, in fact. I'm certainly curious as to who's writing it, though, and what they'll do with Yeenoghu!

Frankly I'm glad Jacobs won't be doing it. I mean, really, after something like three years of writing these barely passable bits of filler it's obvious the creative well has run dry. Any reader caught on long ago that you can only use the words "unfathomable," "squamous," and "rictus" so many times in a series before it comes crashing in on itself. With a lack of talent being a crippling first strike, using such an infamously unreliable and relatively unknown author seems like strike two, with the strike-out coming along with the niche, outdated subject matter (the Outer Planes) that no one besides the groggiest of grognards use. In short, I'm hoping the new author finally turns these into something readable... and maybe grounds them in a bit of legitimate D&D history, like that presented in the Charlemagne’s Paladins Campaign Sourcebook.
Given how the relationship and origin that Demons now go by in 4e, you wonder how things will work out with Yeenoghu and his gnolls.

Actually, I think that this "issue" of Dragon is going to be their first "4th Edition" issue. (I think it says so on the page that announces this article.) If that's true, then it's not surprising if this is done in-house.

Nothing is ever outdated. We're not talking about fashion clothes, here. Everything created for our genre is to be taken for what it's worth, from the Rolling Stones meaning, "You only get what you want...but you just might find you get what you need!" If you only like the 1stE, 2ndE, 3E, or 3.5, you use and adapt what you want and can use. I have been dreading to adapt certain 1stE modules into 3.5E but then some have been done by the guys who get paid for time spent revising older D&D formats. In a way, the game itself has made us sloth’s to wait for someone else to do the work of creation for us; it's why we buy the hobby of our dreams years later when we already know the rules. Recently someone asked me why I buy older D&D, other than 3.5E. I told him I like to collect the classics to experience the nostalgia from other gamers who adventured through the romps of top rated modules. Aren't modules, ecologies, histories, campaigns, stories in of themselves, like your Charlemagne’s Paladins Campaign Sourcebook.
So, if Mr. Jacob isn't writing the final instalments of the Demonomicom, use what you will, create your own from suggestions from the message boards, or do nothing at all. I know you may be indirectly complimenting Mr. Jacob's level of professionalism, but all game statistics can be used by someone, no matter who wrote them. [Look how many Open Gaming License books of information about fiends, Hell, devils, demons, the Abyss, Horror, etc., are there out there?]
I am at the age (I surmise you as well) of creating my own material from my library dating back to 1st Edition. Most has never been used but perused for reference only. I mean, how many editions do I need to keep up with to be playing one set of rules? I take what I like and discard the rest till I need them.

I'd rather you had written it myself, I love love LOVE your work on the varied Demonomicon articles. Guess we'll never know what a "Thrall of Yeenoghu" prestige class would have looked like now, or what sort of flunky demons the Prince of Gnolls would possess*. Sigh.
* -- Though I did kitbash something with CE hound archons, just changing their appearances and abilities somewhat to fit.
