Male Human Rogue 4

Rall waits for the poison to take effect. He closes his eyes and utters a small prayer to Desna but then changes his mind and makes it to Cayden Cailean instead. When he realizes he isn't going to die he feels slightly stupid.

"What?" he says to the others defensively.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

Chloe stifles a laugh. "Well...you've got some of your color back," she adds. "Is everyone else okay to continue?"

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

Bowen smiles at Rall and checks what the Kobold's had equipment wise.

Bowen Quaid wrote:

The kobold had a masterwork handaxe, studded leather armor, and a light crossbow with 8 bolts left.

All of it is of course sized for a small creature.

Female Human Druid 2

Arla nods her head as she steps carefully back away from the dead creatures, trying not to slip on the slime. "I'm alright to go on if everyone else is.

I hope we can find the child soon.." the druid glances back over at the kobolds and then to Bowen and Rall, a worried expression crossing her face as she speaks.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

"You and me both..." Chloe mutters as she passes the young druid so she can help Rall back to his feet. "Let's press on," she suggests, "Maybe to the north?"

So is everyone ready to go north then?

"North," mutters Rall.

How many hp did Rall get back?

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

Bowen leaves all the kobolds equipment alone and readies his weapons as he heads north.

Male Human Rogue 4

Rall snags the masterwork handaxe and heads north.

Rall Kirnast wrote:

All of them I believe.

The northern tunnel contains roughly carved shallow steps that descend down about ten feet. At the bottom of the steps there is a four way crossroads, with tunnels going north east and west. Each of these tunnels is about four or five feet wide.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

"Curse this maze of tunnels," Chloe snaps as they encounter the intersection, "I wish I could remember the way we took when we escaped their holding pens. Which way now? Bowen? Can you tell if any route is more well-traveled than the others?"

Bowen looks at all the paths to see where the main traffic goes through.

Male Human Rogue 4

Rall listens carefully for a clue.

1d20+5=18

Bowen easily determines that most of the traffic here runs north and west, with north being the clear path of choice.

Rall hears noise to the north. It sounds suspiciously like a large number of kobolds preparing themselves for battle.

"Oh ... yay."

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

"Yay...what?" Chloe asks, "Yay, as in you know which way we should go. Or, yay, as in you know which way we shouldn't go?"

Male Human Rogue 4
Chloe 'Clover' Verjust wrote:

"'Yay' as in 'All of this should be over soon'. Sounds like our doom lies this way. The kobolds prepare for war."

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

Bowen points north, "If the foot traffic shows anything then the preperations lay North."

Bowen sighs as he looks around the group, "Though it is a plan does anyone have a different plan then Rall we could use?"

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

"Well we should certainly avoid the north passage," Chloe remarks, "But it's an intersection, so we've got two more ways we could go. If you've found signs of kobolds to the west, it would seem it's best to follow that and see if it leads us to a back way into their warrens. I fear if we head east, it'll just take us into some other danger or slow us down."

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

"We can check West but should watch our backs. I doubt the welcoming party will wait for us to come back."

Male Human Rogue 4

"You're still looking for a way to avoid walking into a room full of armed kobolds? I don't think that's going to happen but, fine, west."

Female Human Druid 2

Arla nods her head at the suggestion to go west. "It's probably best to avoid walking headlong into a big group of those creatures if we can. Better to try picking them off in small groups if we have to fight them."

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

"Agreed," Chloe nods at Arla's wisdom, "We need to cull them one group at a time, not all at once. And more importantly, we need to find out where those damn holding pens are. There's no telling what they've done with that last child and our other companion."

The western passage twists and winds a for maybe forty or fifty feet before coming to a "T" with one cavernous tunnel heading south and a wider tunnel heading north. The tunnel northward can be seen to have various large fungi growing in it.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

"Hmmm...could that way lead to one of their food sources, maybe?" Chloe whispers, "If so, it could put us closer to their settlement...and hopefully the holding pens for slaves and captives and such. I think we should try that way."

So is that the plan? I didn't want to presume based on only one PC.

Male Human Rogue 4

Rall nods his head in pitifully resigned agreement with Chloe.

AS the group turns and takes the right tunnel northwardly, they pass by the tall fungus.

Suddenly to the right and to the left comes a keening wail. Two of the tall mushrooms are emitting a horrible shrieking noise. A noise that must surely be audible to every kobold in the tunnels.

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

Bowen groans and turns to the others, "Fall back. I think we are about to be overwhelmed."

"Go forward!" shouts Rall. "Let's find the children and then run."

The screaming fungi continue their wailing as the party hesitates in indecision.

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

Bowen wills the axe to it's brightest and heads North.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

Chloe draws her scimitar and readies one of the kobold javelins before grimly following.

Male Human Rogue 4

Rall winces. 'They actually listened to me? This can't be good.'

He draws his sword and heads North, sticking as close behind Bowen as he can.

The tunnel continues another fifteen feet before opening up into a wide cavern. It is filled with kobolds. All of them on the alert, ready to attack. Fortunately, the party is not surprised to see a welcoming committee and with both sides prepared for battle, there is no surprise round.

There are fourteen kobolds in here. Two of them, towards the back of the group, are better armed and as soon as the party is in sight, they begin yelling, their high voices making loud yipping noises. One gets the feeling they are calling for reinforcments.

Kobold's initiative: (1d20+1=4)

If you beat a 4 initiative you can go first. The closest kobolds are fifteen feet away.

Okay. That's more kobolds than I was expecting.

Do we see any sign of the last child?

The child you are looking for is not in here that you can see. There is another entrance into the room, just out of sight to the east, and one to the party's left going north-west. There are no kobolds between the group and the north-west exit.

I'll try and get a map up by tomorrow.

Initiative: 1d20+2=5

Errrp!

I'm thinking I should wait to see the map ... I wouldn't want to do anything rash ... but Rall is probably going to sprint for the northwest.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

Initiative check... 1d20+2 = 4

Ummm...what happens if we tie the kobolds? :-]

Also, just FYI to the rest of you, Chloe has a few color spray spells still available. This seems like the opportune moment to use them. But you guys decide if we're standing or running.

I'd say use them. Is there room for Chloe to hit the kobolds with color spray without spraying Rall if he's heading to the northwest door?

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

Initiative
1d20+2=13

Eep... So do we run or fight? I think we'll have something behind us either way.

A Battle Map for you to use if needed.

The kobold leaders are at J13 and K13.

The other kobolds are at I10, I11, J9, J10, J11, J12, K10, K14, L12, L12, L14, and M11.

Male Human Rogue 4

I'm thinking we deal with it. If we run, the kid's going to die. We're probably not going to make it through this, but let's spend every action point, hit point, spell, etc. to see what comes of this.

Let's let Chloe use colour spray to even things up and then let's have at them.

Female Human (Taldan) Cleric 1 / Battle Sorceress 1

I'm okay with that. But, Chloe is going last in the initiative order...right along with the kobolds. So, you guys get the first action, unless you want to delay. It might work best if you form a line...draw the kobolds to you...and then Chloe can work her magic by coming up and picking a spot to maximize the number of kobolds she can effect. I have a feeling, we're going to need to be at maximum effect to survive this one.

Also, FYI...I did a quick run back through all the previous posts to the last time we rested and regained spells, etc. Chloe's got 2 color spray spells remaining. And she's also got 2 channeled healings left. Plus all of her action points, though I probably need a reminder on how those work again.

Action points can be used to add 1d6 to a d20 roll after the initial roll is made but before the DM tells you whether the roll succeeded or not. They can also be used to gain one extra action in a round or to recall one spell just cast.

Hero Points can be used to avoid any single attack from dropping you below 1 hp or for an automatic critical for any one attack.

Ooooh. I MUST remember that. Recalling a spell just cast looks advisable right now. And saving ourselves or going for an automatic critical might be needed later.

Getting the kobolds to bunch up doesn't seem likely. I think you'll go first as initiative would go next to highest dexterity, wouldn't it? I'm guessing you have higher dex than most kobolds. How about delaying until after Chloe goes and then killing anything still moving? Or, Bowen and Rall could spread out towards either side, and Chloe could cast her spray down the middle?

Pardon all the out of character commentary, but our chances are slim to none. We need to make this work.

Strategy Discussion:

Spoiler:

Rall Kirnast wrote:

Judging by the positions on the map, a lot of them already seem bunched up. Tactically, there looks like some spots where you guys might be able to funnel them to us past a couple of those stone columns. But I don't know. Wicht can probably advise us on the best course of action. A 15-foot cone can cover 6 squares of opponents at its best effect. I'm not sure we'll do that good with it. But every little bit helps.

Rall Kirnast wrote:

If I'm higher in the initiative order, you guys could delay so Chloe acts at the same time you do. Then, if she blasts the middle or one entire flank with her spell, that would leave you guys to cover the rest. It's all contingent on whether Chloe goes before or after the kobolds, though. And that's for Wicht to tell us, I think.

Rall Kirnast wrote:

If I hit the middle, presumably, the tougher kobolds might try to fill in the gap. Although, with 14 kobolds, I guess they'll have plenty unaffected ones to still cover any that go down to the color spray. I've got 2 of them left. And, by spending a hero point, I could potentially reclaim and cast a third one. All in all, it's going to be important for Chloe to hit and run. At least enough that she can get separation and continue casting.

Male Shoanti/Human Ranger 4

I was going to post my reactions earlier but could not get invisible castle to work so I'm going to hold off till tomorrow and hope its up. Gives us time to discuss anway.
Who is the person in the back? I'm afraid we are going to be pinned in and flanked.
Was going to move in to J8 and hit J9 with first attack. Hopefully attack anything coming in that way
