D0 Hollow's Last Hope - Bravo!

Adventures

I wanted to give a huge thank you to Paizo for producing such a wonderful module. I just started running a game over AIM with some friends, and we ran through this adventure using a modified version of Castles & Crusades.

Characters were a dwarven smith, his ne'er-do-well cousin, and a blue kobold wizard. Since we can only game in short stints, it took us a few sessions, but that's okay.

The kobold player couldn't make it one night, so I gave him the blackscour. That turned to our advantage, as the player really played it out well. His character got a bit delusional, and even ate some glowmoss. It was like a Mentos commercial. Fabulous!

Between the module itself, my own ideas, and a great group of players, this has been one of the most fun modules I've run in ages. I just wanted to say thanks for producing such a wonderful module, and I look forward to more adventures in Falcon's Hollow. :)

Awesome Dragonhelm, glad you liked it! :)

Playing over AIM, eh? How did you like that? Sounds complicated, although I must admit I'm not much of an IM guy...

Actually, it isn't too terribly hard at all. There's some typing involved, which is probably at its worst with boxed text, but not a big deal. Pre-type the boxed text, and you're good.

The part I found hard was the maps, but I scanned them in and distributed them to the players for the duration of the adventure. We're not a big battlemat/minis sort of group and we keep the action a bit fluid.

All in all, it has been some of the best fun I've had in gaming. I'm surprised as well, but it works out nicely.

I'm running D0: Hollow's Last Hope next weekend for my players, and I agree after reading it that it is an excellently written module. One of my players is playing an illusionist/herbalist, so that aspect should be interesting to see what she can acquire in the ruins. :-)

Maybe the Illusionist/Herbalist could take the place of Laurel. Have your player have the grandmother's old notes, and you might make the player be even more central to the plot.

Just a thought. I hope you enjoy the module as much as I did. :)

Hey, now there's an idea! Thanks Dragonhelm. They've already given me their character back stories, but this would be easy to add in. :-)

I'm very excited about this!

My table has started with "Hollow's Last Hope" last week. We decided that all the player characters would be from Falcon's Hollow. So I purchased “The Crown of the Kobold King" to get all the details about the town. I knew my table was going to love playing D0, I made sure to introduce a couple of the children from the D1 to build an emotional bond early. The players like “their town” and after successfully returning with the cure, they are considered heroes by some and potential enemies to others. I was very excited about them starting D1 in two weeks. But now it is even better knowing I will surprise them at the end of June with the shocking "Revenge of the Kobold King!"

Thanks Paizo for the high quality, fun filled games!

I can only underline the statement of the original poster. It took us a long time to get through the module (6 session to be exact), due to heavy roleplaying between the different encounters and also in combat.

The adventure is short and has very diverse encounters. The random encounters are a brilliant way to set up future plots.

My group loved it, I loved it. What more can I say?

Bravo Jason.

PS: Droskar is such a wonderful deity. Great idea. Especially since we have a dwarven cleric of Torag in our group *G*...

I ran this adventure today for my kids - we had a great time :-) They went through it at a cracking pace - skipped a couple of areas but got to the heart of the adventure. The battle with the tatzlwyrm was good and the killer cauldron unexpected. Most enjoyable encounter, however, was with Gurtlekep, whom the characters surprised in his bed. He spun a series of outrageous lies to win their trust, failed miserably, ran for help and ended up on the wrong end of a ranger's sword :-)

All in all, a very well-written adventure that fitted neatly into a Saturday afternoon. We shall see if Aragorn the ranger and Pink Strawberry the wyrmling silver dragon head into D1 next. Good stuff.
