Neutral and Chaotic dragon subbreeds?

3.5/d20/OGL

Ok, there are the metallic dragons (gold, copper, silver, brass, bronze) which encompass Good.

There are the chromatic (red, white, black, blue, green) which encompass Evil.

There are the gem (amythyst, emerald, crystal, topaz, sapphire) which encompass Neutrality on the good evil axis.

From dragon magazine there are the ferrous (iron, nickle, cobalt, tunsten, chromium) which encompass Law.

Does anyone know if the Chaotic and Neutral with respect to law and chaos axis ever had dragon subbreeds assigned to them? The ferrous dragons made things wonderfully interesting in recent times, just wondering if there was any more fuel to throw on the fire.

Sure, I could probably pull from other sources, but most of those are planar dragons with their own "niches" to fill, or dragons that already fall amongst previous categories (electrum, purple, yellow, brown, etc).

The fang dragon is about the only candidate I can think of for the Chaotic axis, in terms of being different from the others. Maybe there are other breeds that fit in that vein?

Despite their classification as planar dragons, I would consider some of the breeds from the Draconomicon to fill those spots.

True, but I suppose I should clarify the intent of my question. I have all of the current WotC 3.0 and 3.5 material involving dragons in any way. I also have a fair amount of 2nd ed material, such as the Electrum dragon (to my knowledge not updated).

So, is there anything from 2nd or even 1rst edition that I might be missing, regarding the neutral and chaotic axis relative to dragon subbreeds? I know the Ferrous dragons were origionally from 2nd edition, so I thought they might have chaotic counterparts from back in the day.

This would've been from the Dragon issue with the updated ferrous dragons if there had been enough room.

Spoiler:

Other Ferrous Dragons

Ancient lore tells that twelve or more species of ferrous dragon existed before the great wars that nearly destroyed them. Two species were definitely driven to extinction, though none know the fate or current whereabouts of the other five species, not even the other ferrous dragons. The nature of the seven unknown species remains a mystery, but at least one is probably the magnetite (lodestone) dragon.

The Iron Wars

Several millennia past, civil war erupted between the good and evil ferrous dragons. The impetus for this war, now known as the first Iron War, has been lost to history, but rumors suggest that it began with the discovery of a particularly large deposit of iron ore. Regardless of the cause, many losses were suffered by the ferrous dragons, and their empire began its decline.

The second Iron War was initiated by a group of chaotic dragons known collectively as the rock dragons. Rivalry had long existed between the two groups, but open conflict rarely occurred. Sensing the weakened position of the ferrous dragons, the rock dragons moved in for the kill. The second Iron War ended in the near-extinction of both draconic empires. Tiamat sent her chromatic dragons to crush the last remnants of both.

As a result of the centuries-long Iron Wars, Gruaghlothor has very little tolerance for in-fighting between the ferrous dragons. Instead, he prefers that their enmity be channeled towards the chromatic dragons, particularly the reds.

Hope that helps a bit.

Speaking of missing dragons, has anyone noticed that one planar dragon is still missing? The dragon of the Plane of Shadow. The Shadow Dragon, before anyone asks, is not a planar dragon.

Other planes lacking a true planar dragon: Arcadia, Baator (hellfire wyrm isn't really a true planar dragon), Elemental Planes, Energy Planes, Plane of Faerie, Plane of Mirrors, and Region of Dreams.

Ah yes, the Plane of Mirrors. Excellent piece of work. It was in Fiend Folio, wasn't it?

I'm not really sure those ones count.

Awesome, Warforged Goblin, that bit was exactly what I needed. I didn't need stat-blocks so much, just a confirmation that some "semi-official" answer existed in some shape.

Hmm, anyone have a good idea of what the various "rock" dragons might be?

Granite, Marble, Limestone, man, I'm having a bad day recalling types of rock....

Jade is a must!

'Cause Jade Dragon has the best dim sum. :)

Also Obsidian Dragons could be neat, with claws sharper than razors (improved critical) and a breath weapon of super-heated choking sulfurous smoke.

Desert-dwelling Sandstone Dragons, breathing forth a cone of rasping desert sand that can flay the skin from a man in seconds, and has skin as rough as sharkhide?

Lava-belching Basalt Dragons, and all-but-invulnerable Granite Dragons would be the logical fourth and fifth 'Dragons of Stone.'

As opposed to the 'Dragons of Rock,' who would be Thrash, Metal, Classic, Punk and...

Those are some great ideas!
