Based on Present Actions of Everyone

For Grael and Targ, Listen Check DC 20:

Spoiler:
Over the mingled voices of a hundred tourists and townspeople, you recognize the voice of Ingowil screaming, “Stop Thief!” Her voice sounds to be coming from the South.

For Szaranoth, Spot and Listen Check DC 18:

Spoiler:
Your search pays off and you notice out of the corner of your eye,
Ingowil. She is screaming, “Stop Thief!”

Etellio joins Szaranoth in searching for Ingowil but the large volume of people hampers Etellio's efforts.

For Ingowil, Spot Check DC 15:

Spoiler:
The man you are following makes a quick in turn into an alley. A lot of foul odors are emanating from that place.

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

Listen (1d20+4=19)

Nope. Just missed it!

Male Human Druid 2

Listen 13
Grael stumbles to his feet. "I saw her in an ambush after following a thief. We have to find her. In this crowd...no, she must be out of the crowd. Come on!"

Male Human Druid 2

Suddenly he bursts out, "The counters! The alley! Of course, how could I forget? She was at a counter, talking with a man, the thief came and stole her purse, she followed him--into an alley! Come on, we have to find that alley! And in it--an ambush!

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

Spot (1d20 1=18)
Listen (1d20 1=13)

"Etellio! I think I saw Ingovil's hair through the crowd. If I'm not mistaken, she ran into that alley, pursuing someone. Quick. Follow me." Szaranoth lets go a whistle from his four fingers and then points in the direction he wants to take. Then he starts to makes his way through the crowd to the point, where he spotted Ingovil disappearing into the alley. I hope, we are not too late, not again.

This is really loud... take the index and middle finger from each hand, put it in your mouth and blow out hard (it is not easy, but it works and reaches far, even over a crowd).

Dark Archive

Etellio hears Szaranoth's loud outburst.

Male Human Druid 2

Do I?

Dark Archive

Grael and Targ hear Szaranoth's loud outburst. Szaranoth is in the southern portion of the square.

Male Human Druid 2

Grael runs to the source of the whistle. "Come on! I think they found something!"

female human fighter/1

Spot check 14+2=16
Ingowil runns full pelt after the man and notices him turning into the alley. She makes to run into the alley, but is stopped by the awful smell. "Come on, people, give me my purse." She says exasperatedly. She steps forward catiously, looking into the dark alley.

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

Targ hurries after Grael towards the sound of the whistle, crossbow held before him. He bulls his way through the crowd, muttering curses and pushing heedlessly past bystanders.

Having heard the whistle and seeing Szaranoth dash off, Etellio follows him towards Ingowil's location.

Hmmm...what can I can do here...spell or weapon?

Dark Archive

For Ingowil:

Spoiler:
The alley is wide enough to allow two persons to walk side by side. The walls of the buildings forming the alley are dirty and full of graffiti. The awful smell of the alley appears to come from the dog feces that litter it. You see a man the far end of the alley. He is cleaning his fingernails with a knife. Though he wears colourful clothes, he is not the man you seek.

female human fighter/1

For Radavel

Spoiler:
Ingowil stepps forward cautiously, and calles out to the man. "Exuse me, but have you seen someone run through here?"

Dark Archive

For Ingowil

Spoiler:
The man leers at you, "I suggest me darling that you's just forget about the man. It would be better for you. Don't want to see that pretty face of yours marred by anything untoward."

Dark Archive

For everyone except Ingowil, roll 2d4+2, result equals number of rounds it takes you to maneuver through the crowd and out of the square.

Male Half-elf Sorceror 1/Rogue 1

2d4+2=5

Here we go.

Male Human Druid 2

2d4+2=7
This could take a while...

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

Running through the market (2d4+2=7)
Argh, all those people... move, get out of my way.

"Excuse me. Beg your pardon. Sorry. Please, let me through."
Apparently, Szaranoth has chosen a path where hundreds of people are milling about.

female human fighter/1

For Radavel

Spoiler:
"I....I don't undestand." Ingowil looks really worried now, and looks around the alley for someone else. Spot check 1d20+2=16

Dark Archive

For Ingowil:

Spoiler:
You notice that the other end of the alley is now blocked off by some curtain and that two men in colorful clothes with scarves are walking towards you.

Dark Archive

Targ, Szaranoth, Etellio and Grael emerge from the crowded square and meet up near an alley you think Ingowil was heading to. You look around and notice a man seated in the dirt in front of a red curtain. He is placing cards in a distinctive pattern one after the other. It is a Harrow deck. You notice that weird tattoos cover the man's leathery skin.

Noticing you for the first time, the man flashes you a smile. "Care to have your fortune read."

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

2d4+2=7
Looks like we're all going to get there about the same time...

Targ glances at the man. "Not right now, we're busy." He scans the alley and the surroundings, looking down the length of his crossbow.

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

"Sure, later. But I can tell you, that your near future will be a heap of trouble, if you don't tell us, where that woman is, that went into the alley a few moments ago."

Szaranoth tries to peek through the curtains, that are strung over the entrance to the alley.

Spot, Listen, Intimidate (1d20+1=12, 1d20+1=16, 1d20+6=19)

Dark Archive

Sweat forming on his forehead, the fortune teller interposes himself between Szaranoth and the curtain, "Woman. What woman? I've been here the whole time and no woman has passed me by."

Male Human Druid 2

Grael glares at the man. "I'm going to see what's on the other side of that curtain. The one that this man is trying so desperately to hide."

Male Half-elf Sorceror 1/Rogue 1

Etellio gives the man a hard stare, and suddenly utters

"Movat apre, mentosi!" - hoping (on a hunch) it will rattle the man so we can get through.

If you understand Varisian...

Spoiler:
Stand side, liar!

Intimidate (1d20+2=20) if needed...

For Radavel:

Spoiler:

If that doesn't work, he will try to see if he can jump through the curtain. Not certain what I should attempt here, so I am thinking a tumbling check (not trained - so let me know if that works).

1d20+2=22

Yay! Natural 20 - I hope it's good for something.

female human fighter/1

For Radavel

Spoiler:
"Now listen here, there is no need to start anything. Just give me my purse, and I will leave." She draws her longsword dramatically, hoping to look fiercer than she felt.

Male Human Druid 2

Grael pulls aside the curtain.
Do I sense anything?

Dark Archive

For Grael, Etellio, Szaranoth and Targ:

Spoiler:

The fortune teller is surprised and shocked at the words of Etellio, allowing Grael to move pass him and tear down the curtain, revealing the alley.

For Grael:

Spoiler:
You sense the presence of two males their backs turned away from you. They are moving away from the range of your senses.

For Etellio, Targ and Szaranoth:

Spoiler:
You look past the shocked fortune teller and you see two men moving into the alley towards Ingowil, who has her longsword out. Further towards the end of the alley, you see another man.

For Ingowil:

Spoiler:
The two men drawing near you draw daggers in response. Their faces are menacing. Then, light once more flowed into the alley and you can see a cloaked figure.

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

"Hold!" Szaranoth shouts. "Any move to draw or use weapons will be regarded hostile! You have surrounded a deputy of the local sheriff and I'd suggest, you comply with what she wants. Other actions will lead to similar responses."

Intimidate (1d20+6=17)

If things get hostile, I will switch to my Energy Shield aura, when it is my turn in the order. If they freeze, I will continue with giving them the options they have, i.e. giving back the stolen objects and enjoying the day out of town without getting arrested or stay in town, but in the brig, but food and drink from the festival will be supplied to them.

Male Human Druid 2

"Say...have you two gentlemen seen a woman run past here? Chasing someone?"
Grael takes a step forward, to keep up with the men, yet feeling slightly queasy.

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

Targ points his crossbow right at the fortune teller's chest.

"Now don't you think about running off anywhere. There will be some questions need answering."

Male Half-elf Sorceror 1/Rogue 1

Seeing Ingowil surrounded, an old memory suddenly comes back to Etellio...something that clearly brings a flush of anger to his face. Glancing icily from the fortune teller to the men in the alley, he follows up Szaranoth's proclamation, coolly stating to them:

"Mofas l'agrad e'Desna par'ruebas t'ha trai mar fortun, campisi. Commendi rendicio, nosque enfanqo es'sacred fiestiva y s'ira!"

Varisian speak for:

Spoiler:

Taunting the will of Desna for robbery has brought you ill luck, fellows. I suggest you surrender, lest you stain this holy festival and raise her ire!"

Intimidate (1d20+2=18)
If the Varisian speak is annoying, let me know...I'll go with a more conventional approach.
If it looks like confrontation is unavoidable, I'll start preparing a spell.

Targ the Unwieldy wrote:

Nice save...here I was worried we were all too busy staring into the alley and not paying attention to him.

Male Workaholic, level 10

For Radavel:

Spoiler:

This may be for the discussion thread, but...

I am considering casting a sleep spell if combat breaks out.

Is there any way to target the three thugs in the alley w/o hitting Ingowil in the spell area? My only guess would be to center it on Ingowil since it is a 10' radius burst. Yea or nay?

Also, if I do decide to hit them with the spell, can I get all three anyway?

Dark Archive

For Etellio

Spoiler:
If your goal is to catch all three men, then you cannot avoid hitting Ingowil in the burst

female human fighter/1

I assume that I cam hear the others behind me. If not, then skip this Hearing the voices of her companions, Ingowil starts backing up, hoping to show that she was not alone.

Dark Archive

For Ingowil:

Spoiler:
Yes you can hear the voices of your companions but can't make out all of what they are saying. Also a clarification, the two men walking towards you from the direction of the alley opening while the knife man is at the other end. In other words, you are surrounded.

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

Szaranoth adopts an aggressive waiting position. The Varisians that have surrounded Ingovil need to make a decision. He is ready to draw his weapon and switch his aura, if the thieves surrounding Ingovil make a move.

Dark Archive

For Ingowil:

Spoiler:
The knife man whispers, “Ah, good. The authorities are here on time.”

The tension is broken when the knife man shouts at the men behind Ingowil, “Boys, sheathe your weapons and invite the good deputies to arrest this thief!” He points at Ingowil.

The men behind Ingowil obeying the bidding of the knife man and bow to Grael who is at the opening of the alley. One of them says, "We have captured this thief. Please take her away."

As if on cue, the fortune teller screams, “Yes, she is a thief! And a dangerous harridan to boot!” He also points at Ingowil.

Male Human Druid 2

"Thief? Ingowil? I think not. Ingowil is a good friend of ours. Sheathe your weapons and tell us your story."

Male Half-elf Sorceror 1/Rogue 1

Etellio glances skeptically at the knife man...
Well...aren't you clever...something's not right here...Sense Motive (1d20=9)

Instinctively, he looks around the alley and the men to see if he spots a hidey hole or perhaps a cut purse somwhere.

Bait and switch trick...?

Spot (1d20+1=14)

female human fighter/1

"I am no thief!" Ingowil says indignantly. "One of you is the thief. Look, my purse is gone!" She looks wildly about, looking for the man who stole her purse.

Szaranoth smiles, but this smile is not the hearty quick smile, but a hard grim smile.

"I think you have missed a small detail, I also stated earlier. But to make things more clear to you. I have a red sash, my dwarven friend has a red sash and your 'supposed' thief...hm.. she has a red sash, too. Grab them, guys."

Grael sighs. "Very well. Men, we can do this the easy way, or we can do it the way that may end in a funeral."

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

Targ jerks his head at the alleyway, still keeping his crossbow leveled at the fortune teller's chest.

"Ingowil's no thief. She's a deputy, like me, like these guys. Now why don't you join your friends in the alley? We can all sort this out real peaceful like."

Dark Archive

One of the men says, "Well she looked liked one running this way and that trying to find a hiding place. Just to settle this, you can search us if you want. But I bet you now that you will not find anything stolen in this area or on our persons. We are honest folk. For the record, we have sheathed our weapons even before you made the demand to do so."

The fortune teller parrots, "Yes we are honest folk. Just trying to earn a living."

Male Half-elf Sorceror 1/Rogue 1

Etellio still feels something's not right about this situation...like they are being misled...Grael must have seen something to cause such a stitch...

He glances behind them and back towards the square...looking for someone or something they might have missed escaping or avoiding us...

Spot (1d20+2=3)

Barring that, he gives the alley a more thorough look if he can (I am assuming it is a dead-end alley, not an alley way that continues to another street).
