The 5 Goblin tribes ?

Rise of the Runelords

How will the players know that the five tribes have united to attack the town?
I have thought of giving each tribe there own tattoos/ markings;

Birdcruncher; tattoo of a small bird (Sparrow?) being crushed underfoot.

Thistletop; Decapitated head with a crown of Thorns/

7 Tooth tribe; 7 scraggy teeth in an open mouth

LickToad; a red and yellow toad with a tongue on its back

Mosswood: 3 Trees sprouting from the same root.

Are these suitable do you think? Or does any one have a better idea?

Scarab Sages

Instead of tattoos, why not just different customs and diets. The Licktoads carry dried frogs for snacks. The bird crunchers tend to have eggshells and bird claws in their pouches. The mosswood goblins tend to use wood bark for armor and the seven teeth tribe have pots for helmets, lids for shields and their dogslashers are made of stout iron.

Hmm? Problem I see with that is it can be misconscrued (sp) as a ranking issue and just different diet, ie the more powerfull Goblins have the better armour whilst the poorer ones use bark armour.
Maybe physical differences would be more suitable? The 7 tooth tribe literally have 7 teeth each and the Birdcrusher tribe use bird feet necklaces and adornments.

The PCs might notice the differences and misconstrue the reason sure. But when they talk with Shalelu they will be told what the differences actually entail.

BINGO!!!
Good point. I forgot about that. Thanks for the good advice.
