Questions about the Map of Varisia

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Dark Archive

Hello everyone.

I started to draw an alternate map for Varisia, and I would like to know a few things about the one that appears in the RotRL player's guide.

From what I see, there are five major woodlands in Varisia: Mierani Forest and Lurkwood to the North, Churlwood, Sanos Forest and Ashwood to the South.

I would like to know the wood composition of these areas. Which are mostly composed of deciduous trees, which are coniferous, and which are of mixed composition?

They're mostly all evergreen forests. Pine trees, fir trees, and redwoods for the most part, with a smattering of cypress, oaks, and maybe even eucalyptus trees along the coastal regions. For a real world example, check out northern California.

Thanks James! :-)

Because I like hearing how other gamemasters do things, may I ask why you needed to know the types of trees in these forests?

On my maps the forests use different types of symbols showing whether there are deciduous, coniferous or both types of trees within.

I also need to be able to represent myself the sceneries to map them correctly. To "see" the area, you know.

Plus, any type of detail then gets to be used in later descriptions of the game itself. I greatly appreciate the level of detail James and the other contributors are willing to share with the fans.
