Cartographic Request / Question

Rise of the Runelords

Liberty's Edge

Hello noble Paizo folks. I am currently knee-deep in reading part two of Rise of the Runelords...getting that large, sturdy white envelope each month is actually keener than those other things I used to get from you monthly. :-) I have a request I hope won't be too difficult.

****************
Can the cartographers please place room key entries inside blank squares of the room in which they appear? In other words, if a "3" has to appear in room 3, and there is a blank square in there NOT filled by other artistic embellishments, can the 3 be placed squarely IN the square instead of on a crosshair, over a bed or table, or in a wall?****************

I am a DM who likes to grab rooms (which you have awesomely been keeping under 8x11 or blocks thereof), use a simple paint program to block out callouts, and then enlarge the room and print it for minis use. I don't do this with every room, just the really weird and wacky shaped ones I don't already have D&D or SkeletonKey Tiles for.

Hope this is a simple request, it would make eliminating the callouts when I'm working much easier, quicker, and neater. Keep up the super work folks!

I second this call - I would also love to have the room numbers inside the tile squares; makes it easier to cut and paste another square over it so I can print out oddly-shaped rooms (I had to print out in sections the whole Glassworks factory because most of it was on a diagonal and I didn't have time during the game to draw out diagonally something that complex)

This is a minor request - my group has fallen in love with Pathfinder :)

I third this request ..... it maks it much easier when I use Photoshop to get rid of them if the number is not on top of some det ailed part of the room.

I'll go ahead and forth it. I ran the other APs after the handout packets had been made avalible, and now running ROTRL as it is released... so maps are becoming more and more important... I havn't played with just blowing up the rooms instead of drawing them on a flipmat... maybe I'll do that for next time...

Eventually I hope to make untagged maps available for Pathfinder. That can't and won't happen until we're caught up with Pathfinder in the first place, nor can and will it happen until we can work that stage officially into the schedule. The way it was handled with Dungeon just didn't work (we're still about 5 issues behind, there).

So my philosophy for Pathfinder untagged maps is to do it right the first time.

Super! That would be a great help, thank you. I do luck out at not beginning until January 2008, so the time isn't an issue.

This is good to know and thank you. We're not looking for having you make the untagged maps available; we're just wanting a lil shift on how the room numbers are put on the maps so we can more easily make our own untagged maps - heaven knows that we don't want anything to slow you good people down in churning out the great adventures :-)

I'm not sure regulating room tags to "empty squares" is all in all a good idea, honestly. The general idea is to place the number tag either in the center of the room, but we do try to not obscure map features. I'll see what I can do, but no guarentees. Coordinating maps is one of the harder parts of the job, to be honest, and in some cases tinkering with tags to this level can actually cause more problems than it solves.

I am looking forward to untagged maps for Pathfinder, as I use them to make 5 x 8 cards similar to your MapPack products.

Come to think of it, if Paizo just made MapPacks for each key encounter area in each Pathfinder, that would work fine for me. Another way to give Paizo more of my money. Any thoughts on this?

I just downloaded Pathfinder 3, and I Thank you for the change on the images showing the layouts of the places! Now I can copy the images into Paint Shop Pro without all of the tags! This is a huge time-saver for preparing battle grids using the maps from the adventure!

Will this great modification be available for all future Pathfinder's now? Are there any current plans to update the maps for Pathfinder 1 and 2 so the images can be copied without the tags?
