I have a PC sorcerer in my game who wants to take the Sandshaper prestige class from the Sandstorm sourcebook. Does anyone have any ideas for blending this Prestige class into the pathfinder setting?
The class taps into the power of a long dead empire of Arcanists, who used sand magic to carve out a desert empire. Now, the pathfinder setting is littered with ruins of the old Thasilonian empire. Was there a Runelord who may have been more desert based than others? Perhaps an empire that predates the Runelords? What are the current Desert Kingdoms like? I have seen mention of an Egypt like country "Osirion?" Any suggestions for fitting this flavorful Prestige Class into the setting would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think they would fit just fine in the Storval Plateau or the cinderlands since they both show regions that are poorly inhabited (no big cities)and are reasonably close to RotRL setting.
Above the rise stretches the
Storval Plateau, a barren, hilly
land of sparse vegetation and deadly
giants. This is the primary home of
the Shoanti. A nomadic people, the barbarians
range from the Stony Mountains in
the west to the Cinderlands—a badland of ragged
tors—in the east.
If thats doesn't fit the Sandstorm setting I wouldnt know what would.

The Shoanti Barbarian lands to the North should be Tundral / Arctic like terrain.
But that could be my biases slipping in here.
I think I read somewhere, although I can't remember where, that Sandpoint was like Minnesota for climate, which means it is nearly Tundral / Arctic like terrain to begin with. ;-)
I don't have any better suggestions for you though... Somewher far down South?

The Map shows that in the north is the land of the linnorm kings and my guess would be that this is the artic areas. The Kodar Mountians and realms north. But hey I was just giving insight on where you could choose to use the Prc based on info in the books, GM's should feel free to use and disuse what ever they want.
Plus the Shoanti lands are in the eastern part of said map.

I was hoping to get a little info out of James or Mike on this topic :). I think they are the only ones who would have info on the more southern regions, including any Desert regions or Desert dwelling runelords. I can still hope they will notice the topic sometime :).

I thought of the Storval plateau and that area as similar to the Gobi desert in climate myself.

What if Sandpoint and Varissia are in the southern hemisphere, and the furthur you go south, the colder it gets but it is warmer in the north? Of course, I can't recall ever seeing a campaign set in a southern hemisphere.
