I think a tattoo would be cheaper than a Harley for my mid-life crisis....what do you guys think?

Heh. If I could afford it, I would have both for my 40th birthday. (Thanks for the encouragement, YeuxAndI) But I would probably go for a classic british bike from the seventies - Norton Commando or something like that, built as a Cafe Racer. Not that I don´t like the "Easy Rider" image, but there are too many old rich farts driving a HD these days, the same way they drive all the cool sports cars. (Ask them: Do you already play Golf or do you still have S.x? ;-))

How did this thread turn into hair talk? Weird.

Things like that just happen 'round here.

Speaking of hair talk, I highly recommend the Garnier Fructis line of hair products. The "Length and Strength" shampoo/conditioner really does what is says it does - my split ends have all but disappeared using this stuff. The intense conditioner cream works quite well, and best of all, the products don't have a funky weird medicinal smell to them. Lightly fruity, slightly tropical.

Aussie Formula: Miracle Moist is good too -it smells amazing!

My girlfriend's secret (well, actually her mother's) for silky hair is to wash it with a bar of pure soap and then rinse with a dash of apple cider vinegar mixed with water. Cheaper than shampoo and conditioner and much better for your hair. A few times a year she washes her hair with a beaten egg and it goes really shiny. True story. No-one she has introduced this method to has ever gone back to using hair product.

A really great cheap shampoo that a couple of my hairdresser friends swear by, is Vosene. :) In general Shampoo is quite bad for the hair, they wash out all the vitamins etc, the worst ones are those anti dandruff types as they really mess the hair up and can damage the scalp.

I really just don't trust soap in my hair at all. It makes my hair go crazy.

I once knew a guy who was a part of the whole 'Crusty' movement and he had long hair down to his bum, he left this hair as it was and it apparently cleaned itself -all he used to do was clean it in salted water now and then.

A tattoo would be cheaper. But Harleys have the cool factor. However, if you wife is anything like me, if you got a Harley, she'd probably say "Where's mine?" :D

Oh, you are SO right!! The only thing that has kept me from getting a tattoo so far (I want the Rush Star from 2112...people will think I'm a commie) is the fact that it'll disqualify me from donating platelets for a year and since I'm O NEGATIVE, the universal donor blood type and I've been donating blood for 22 years, I'd feel horribly guilty.

If the tattoo shop you go to is a state certified shop I know the red cross with let you donate. Check with them first but they should let you. When I got my tattoo I tried to donate but Montana is one of the few that don't certify tattoo shops but that is what the nurse told me.

I used to give blood too, but I got one of my tattoos while living in Russia, and the Norwegian hospitals have wanted nothing to do with my blood ever since... It's been about eight years, so I would think that whatever foreign objects the Russians left in me would be long gone, but apparently not. :/

The Harley! Go for the Harley! Tatoos don't make that fantastic "I got big kahonas" noise.

You would think a simple blood test would clear up any issues that would have arisen from that. Eight years is plenty of time for most blood-borne pathogens to show up in a blood test.

I work in the emergancy medical field...and after a long night I found this thread. I had a 17 year old Pt who was jaundiced and has Hepatitis C from her tattoo she got when she was 16. A fake ID will get you nothing but trouble.
In one of my EMS journals I read a case where some poor schlub picked up the flesh eating virus from his tattoo.
That being said I would like a tattoo, but I have too much faith in the ability of people to screw things up.

I would shoot for the motorcycle myself, even after scraping people up. I like my toys a bit more reliable and zippy than a Harley. How about a Triumph Speed Triple or a Ducati Monster? I would post a link but I don't know how. Death on a motocycle seems like a lot more fun than being eaten alive by bugs or spending the rest of my life going to dialysis.

Oh yeah! Thank you SO much for donating O neg F2K. I have met some wonderful people who would not be alive if not for your sacrifice. They appreciate it too! :)

One of my friends has the Soviet flag tattooed on his arm. So, he actually is a commie. I'm a little jealous, to be honest. But then we go out bowling and belligerent, patriotic young bucks that are more than a little paranoid about who and what their girlfriends are looking at at any given second then decide to start a fight for the sake of democracy. So maybe I'm not that jealous.

Hey, Kirwyn! Here's how to do a link. Just replace ( ) with [ ] to get it to actually work. (url=http://insertwebsitehere.com)The Name Of Your Website Link Goes Here(/url)

So, for example, linking to the Wizards of the Coast D&D website will be typed as (url=http://www.wizards.com/dnd)WOTC(/url) and with the brackets replaced, WOTC. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mr. Keegan I appreciate it!

I'm totally outnumbered but I would go for the tat. I've been watching/reading a lot of stuff about global warming and effective energy use, so I'm very anti....vehicles? I guess? I can't justify the need to produce 16 pounds of CO2 every time I drive my cool car/bike around.

That being said, I love motorcycles and wishe there were electric ones. That would be so neat.

Liberty's Edge

Go for the bike...

Then again, I only say that 'cause I work for a company that sells aftermarket HD pistons...

once i find a job with less suck...

get the tat...

Thanks for saying that, but it's no big deal any more. My son has had 18 surgeries and has had blood transfusions all the time (his surgeries are out of town and I can't afford to fly out of town to donate for him, since we also have to pay for our trips to the surgeries out of pocket), so even if I hadn't been a regular donor already, I would have started out of guilt.

Plus...a couple of my coworkers are battling cancer and the hour and a half every two weeks it takes to give platelets is the least I can do.
Our local blood bank is wonderful, great people and the platelet donors can watch TV/DVDs, surf the internet or whatever while they donate. I personally like to read, as that hour and a half is the only uninterruptable reading time that I get on a regular basis.

My friend Ray'kal (his Paizo messageboard avatar name), who introduced me to D&D 27 years ago, also works in the same building as me. He drives a Honda Reflex scooter to work. He bought it 3 years ago when gas hit $2/gallon and everyone made fun of him.

No one makes fun of him any more. (Well, okay, the still do...but most secretly think he's brilliant as they park their massive SUVs and substitute penis pick up trucks)

Ray'kal got a tattoo of a griffon on his shoulder a few years ago while going through a divorce. Does a tattoo AND a manly scooter equal a Harley?

B+!&$in'. I'm getting a raise.

Read: In about a year, I might be finally getting that tattoo I've been wanting.

hehe; body mods; have a bunch; unwillingly; called scars; sigh had a bit rough of a life, but most of them have really faded over the years. No tatoos; just never found anything I wanted to look at forever. Piercings; hmm, I used to wear one uhm; down there, some of the girls I used to hang with thought it was kinky; I still can wear it, but dont like to as it iches a bit as even round loops seem to have sharp corners.

i just dress business casual, hehe but dont be fooled; I am just about as redneck hick as you get on the inside otherwise am just average; height, build, all that and as blonde as the day is long. Lol reading Lady Lenas myspace was like reading my own bio; hehe heck you could be my sister and nobody would question it as I too have AC/DC albums and Vivaldi. I go to operas, ballets and rock concerts; just went to heavon and hell with no Ozzy Black Sabbath.

might get a tatoo someday, but want to avoid the old mark of Kane as i am a XPian; so might get a shamrock.

hehe there is no such thing as a manly scooter, you might as well put on a propeller hat.

Brother! I knew you had to be family! Now we just got to find you a nice girl to settle down with so I can have babies to play with. Am I your older sister, or younger sister?

Edit: I've always wanted to go to a ballet, sad that I grew up near Seattle and never went to one. I want to see Daughter of the Regiment.

OK, here's one of the two decent pictures of me in existence. That other one just bugged the hell out of me. Johnny Depp, my ass...

Hmm...Can't seem to get it to load.

Never mind, got it. Hmm, now you look like a young Val Kilmer to me.

Ooh! Folks on this thread should note that one of the last class acts in Dragon 359 will be all about new ways to integrate body mods into your D&D game... as written by yours truly. :)

Yeah, ok, you look nothing like johnny depp. Nice shirt by the way.

hehe the only time I have ink is when my oldest, who will be 5 yrs old on July 1, draws on me; she draws on herself all the time; better than drawing on the walls. Last week she was showing me her booboos from being a kid; so we did a booboo; my scar, her booboo, my scar, ect as a learning tool so you dont get body mods you dont want. At least she doesn't paint my toenails anymore, but I think she wants to start giving haircuts, yikes, not sure my self image can handle that.

hehe Lady Lena; I am pretty sure you would be a younger sister :); I would be the older brother type who gives you a $20 for a movie now again and chases away stalkers with a look; who always is glad to see you but doesnt get in your business.

I can see you cleaning your rifle the first time a date came to pick me up. My hubby would've probably been more excited about checking out your firearm then the date with me :}

Are you sure y'all aren't from down here? *heehee*

I was raised a city girl, but I got country in my soul. Why else would I have married a redneck.

True story: Mister Sutter shaved his beard to get into the spirit of writing about body/appearance modification. He now has a +2 to girls and a +7 to saying "Wow I look different without a beard huh?"

:)
