And here's part two! What's the most interesting and exciting and memorable Dungeon location ever?
So close between the Styes and Scuttlecove!
(and Cauldron, and Sasserine ....)
IF I remember correctly Flames crystal castle was floating in a volcanoe above hot lava. A dragon lair doesn't get cooler than that.
As much as I love The Styes, I had to go with Diamond Lake on this one. It just received much more attention. Now, say, if Mr. Pett is allowed to develop a Styes facsimile in Pathfinder's Varisia, I might have to reconsider....
This is too hard. I can't answer it at all.
Good golly. This is like trying to pick out the single best time you ever had sex.
Can I have 25 votes, please?
I Cannot describe the effect that The Styes had on me. I hope that the end of Dungeon doesn't mean the end of the Styes. I haven't gotten enought of it. There MUST be a way to carry the torch!
kikai13 wrote: Good golly. This is like trying to pick out the single best time you ever had sex. An apt analogy, if there ever was one. Is there an RPG-equivalent for a technosexual?
I just finished a long long campaign set in a homebrew world with Bards keep playing a large part of it. My players will forever wince while opening books and opening doors.

Thanks chaps and chapesses.

What's that blank one down there at the bottom? Is that the one you left for Ehlonna's Scar? (hint-hint!)

Is that how many times you've had sex?
The Crystal Citadel even has the coolest name.

Actually, its the number of locations represented by the poll.
Does Babba Yagga's hut count as a dungeon location?
The blank option at the bottom's an error. I'll see if I can fix it.
kikai13 wrote: Good golly. This is like trying to pick out the single best time you ever had sex. Kikai13 wins the thread. I caught this out of the corner of my eye as I was reaching for my breakfast, and the results were not pretty at all. Now I need a towel, and a new bowl of chowder.
I went with Scuttlecove, partially because I felt like voting for the Isle of Dread is kind of like cheating. That's like 6 locations, at least!
I had a hard time deciding... but a city in a volcano wins it for me as cool settings go (or should that be hot?).

I was hoping to see L'Trel come up as an option, since it was a cool early event-based adventure.
In the end, I went with Cauldron, but Diamond Lake, Farshore and Sasserine are also strong. I think the midgame/endgame burgs like Greyhawk, Magepoint, and Alhaster come up short because of space constraints on the NPCs. There's just not enough room to include level appropriate NPCs who are irrelevent to the adventure at hand, even though they can make for good sidequests and hooks for replacement PCs. Scuttlecove is something of an exception.

Ted Zuvich's whole world was interesting to me, at least the parts we got to see from his Dungeon submissions. Unfortunately I'd never be able to run a world like his. My PCs likey their magic items. :)

Ah...L'Trel. I've always wanted to see a sequal to that adventure along the same theme. You know...A Cold Day in L'Trel, A Rainy Day in L'Trel, A Dark Day in L'Trel...you get the picture. ;-)
I can't believe that Elephant's Graveyard and Prism Keep aren't getting any loving. Some people just haven't bought DUNGEON for long enough. Perhaps I'm showing my age.
I'm sorry. The Styes might be cool and all, but is the city the real attraction in Richard's adventures, or is it the people and monsters that live there?

Foundations of Flame is cool, but a fairly high level scenario. The nearest thing I can think of is Tides of Dread.
Styes!
The rest are cool, too, though.

Still, I'm surprised some others haven't got more love.
Scuttlecove people!

Maure Castle (if I have to choose - I hate it when that happens).
I voted for the Whispering Cairn, but it was hard seeing it separated from Diamond Lake. Tie goes to the location where the dungeon-delving takes place.

I agree that the Whispering Cairn and Diamond lake should be one choice, as firmly entwined as they are. (I would also like to say that I was sorely tempted by Kongen-Thulnir, but that's just because I have a lots of giants fighting lots of dragons fetish.
Honestly, I'm not familiar with all the sites listed - I've missed a few Dungeons over the years.
I picked Cauldron, tho. I mean, when you send me a mag and you include a poster-map of a city INSIDE the caldera of a VOLCANO, that's just major coolness factor right there.
Scuttlecove, hands down. It has to be the most twisted setting Dungeon has ever put out. It gives me a warm fuzzy.
