CSI: Vegas -- Is Grissom the Doll House Killer?

Television

It might be a bit late to post something for CSI: Vegas, but I have had a suspicion since early in this season: I think Grissom may be the Doll House Killer. My wife brought up another possibility: Sarah Sidle.

1) Grissom: He’s spent a lot of time “profiling” killers, trying to get into and understand the criminal mind and profilers are known to have problems identifying with criminals all too well. They frequently “retire” because they’ve begun emulating the folks they’re tracking all too much. Grissom lives alone, very isolated with plenty of time to create and carry out the kind of plan necessary. Perhaps he’s gone over the edge. There could be a split personality going on? Somehow I just find this possibility an all-too-fittingly ironic ending for the series. As neither William Peterson nor Jorja Fox will be returning for another season (if one even happens), it would make a truly twisted ending to find that the greatest CSI in television history has gone to the dark side.

2) Sidle: She admits to having met Grissom when she was still in college and attributes his influence to her decision to take up forensics. She came running to Vegas from San Francisco when he crooked his finger. She had one affair with him that didn’t last, and then went on a drinking binge that almost cost her her career. She’s got him back now and might just be trying to prove to him that she’s “good enough” for him by out-playing him in a deadly game. If she can commit the murders and not get caught, she’s his perfect soul-mate and can keep him. If not…well let’s just say that one of them dead and the other on death row is a strong possibility. One big clue recently involved the revelation that the doll house maker, the model train fanatic, had spent years fostering other kids and Sarah’s background included foster homes…lots of them. Also, there seems to be some possibility of child abuse/molestation involved: an issue that gets Sarah in an uproar faster than anything else. As pointed out very recently, foster children frequently change their names. Sarah’s current name does not have to be the one she was born with. As a note: Sarah and Grissom are the only two characters with alliterative names; Gil Grissom, Sarah Sidle. Could she have made even the pattern of her name to mimic him? Interesting thought…yes?

Give me some insight here. Could either of these two be possible? Probable? Arguments against, anyone? There’s not much left of the season and the next episode might clear it all up, so I need feedback fast. Thanks.

I don't know how much I can clear up, but to tell you the truth, I wouldn't be surprised, but I would be a bit dissapointed. I loved both of these characters early on, but I've felt as the years have worn on that the more we have learned about the characters, the more twisted, dark, and strange they seem to get. For example, I never would have thought that Grissom would have a thing for Lady Heather, especially from the first episode that featured her, but the more she showed up, the more facinated he got with her.

I think the initial concept of the characters as "quirky" started to really shift to "disfunctional" as more of their personal lives were revealed.

On the other hand, if they (CBS) knows that either the show or two of its major characters are gone, I'd have to give them credit for using a plot switch like this to elmiminate them or send them off rather than some drawn out death scene or even an emotionally manipulative "hero gets offed by the bad guy" episode.

Man, that's food for thought. I say give the finale to Tarantino again and that could very well be a Grand Finale. ( I still think about poor Nick in that coffin with the ants )

I am a huge CSI fan but I must say, these seasons episodes have really gone downhill. With the exception of the episode with the showgirl massacre, they have been really poor IMO. That miniature killer plot has made for some terrible episodes so your suggestion gives it some pinache.

And Grissom did go on retreat for a while with no explanation. You could be onto something...

This is exactly the kind of thing I feel supports the Grissom=Killer idea. His propensity to “profile” bizarre human behavior patters almost compels him to explore Lady Heather’s “milieu” if for no other reason than to try and understand the mindset and lifestyle of the “dominant/submissive” pathology. Lady Heather wasn’t a love-interest (in a strict sense) but a research project. Despite Grissom’s constant harping to all the others on his “team” about not letting emotion get involved in the forensic process, he still has occasion when he gets wrapped up in his own emotions and enthusiasms (light or dark). He has been guilty, more than once, of disregarding his own advice and instructions. The depth of his descent into Lady Heather’s world may be indicative of how far he’s already fallen into the “profiler” spiral. I guess we’ll find out…

So, with Grissom seen beginning to assemble a doll-house miniature at the end of last night’s episode, has anyone decided for or against my theory? Is his action explainable or explanatory? Any comments?

I am a fan of this show, but unfortunately I miss episodes and consequently don't follow it closely enough. I would think that your theory of Sidle being the killer might have more weight that Grissom. Often he would be poring over the models and discovering little clue secreted away. If he had made them wouldn't he go straight to them? Also, didn't Sidle have some problems with drugs/alcohol before? She would miss work or come in late. Maybe she was off killing someone during that time or getting herself drunk to forget or remove the pain.

I just realized the last post was a month ago. What happened? Can someone fill me in?

It's neither of them. When the season ended, Sarah was trapped under a car possibly dying. Not sure how it will end next season, but I read that the actress who plays Sarah contract is currently in dispute so she may actually die on the show.
