High (...and late) praise for World Serpent articles

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

If there is an issue of Dragon that singlehandedly made me a subscriber it was this one. It did not go unnoticed that there was a "city of Greyhawk" feature like I had been asking about (and of course, by not unnoticed I mean jumping around the bookstore hooting like a loon and pumping the air with my fist!)

I love the concept of the World Serpent Inn. The idea of accepting the restructured 3.5 cosmology but allowing a way for the settings to intermingle in a more controlled way is great. I'd be interested to see more done with it.

I love the Ecology articles. If I could buy a fat hardbound book of just the ecology articles I would do so in a heartbeat. They are by far the best stuff coming out for D&D hands down.

I really appreciated the editorial too.

Yep, I loved the World Serpent idea as well, and I hope Dragon expands upon it the next time the Campaign Classics get revisited.

I've made my peace with sexy halflings, but when you put a gnome in a cocktail dress, you've gone too far.

Guilty as charged! ;-)

Your wish is our command! Well, it isn't hardcover, but it will be a nice softcover on par with Red Hand of Doom in quality. Here is the link to the product:

Dragon: Monster Ecologies

It just went to the printer and should be out in late April.

HOLY COW!! You guys are AWESOME!! *big weepy tears of joy* Mark me and probably everyone in my gaming group down for a copy!

Liberty's Edge

Not to highjack the thread, though I loved the update of the World Serpent Inn, will the Ecologies Collection have material that was trimmed from the published articles or other extra material at all? While the ecology flavor is great, it would be more enticing for subscribers of Dragon magazine if the collection had more crunch to go with that mouth watering flavor. :-)~

I'm happy you enjoyed our article to the point of public display, Grimcleaver! :-)

I've finally managed to complete enough of my personal web-enhancement for our Irongate article in Dragon 351 to actually post it to my website. It contains some pretty cool new maps (if I say so myself), extra material of mine that was cut from the article, and a heeping helping of all-new material that was never part of the article. Point yourself to my updated Irongate Project page and its links...

Hope you find it useful!

I've been campaigning for more Greyhawk city articles (even a regular section in Dragon!) for a while now. I would love a full article for every dot on the map, and if I had my way you guys would be publishing every article you wrote. It's really really high quality stuff, and exactly what I've been hungering for.

The more good, juicy city writeups for Greyhawk the better! It's very gratifying to see articles in Dragon that are things that I've been specifically asking for.

Just so you know, it really was pretty much singlehandedly that article of yours that made up my mind to subscribe. It's the truth. It's all you, man.

Wow! Many thanks, Grimcleaver!
To say that we've been meaning to work on that stuff for ages, is quite an understatement. We've been talking about a "City Series" (including more City of Greyhawk) since the old Living Greyhawk Journal days. Now that Erik is "Da Man", maybe he'll squeeze some more stuff like that into the mags. After all, whats the point of being boss if you can't indulge your own whims once in a while. ;-) Eh, Erik? ::nudge nudge, wink wink::

I'll continue putting stuff up on the website that realistically wouldn't be appropriate for the magazine, but alas the game industry can't compete with my university position, so time is always the BIG stumbling block. Stay tuned, though!

Hey the more of that stuff you can get in, the better. I'd totally back a continuing Cities of Greyhawk article in a second! I'm so starved for good Greyhawk information, the idea of a consistant article along the lines of the Ecologies would be awesome!

Dark Archive

I, too, would like to see an ongoing Cities of Greyhawk article in every Dragon. Is this a possibility, Erik?

We've really covered a lot of cities of Greyhawk going back to the days of the stand-alone Living Greyhawk Journal.

Alhaster (Dungeon #131)
Cauldron (Shackled City Adventure Path hardcover)
Diamond Lake (Dungeon #124)
Exag (current Dungeon Campaign Arc)
Greyhawk (Living Greyhawk Journal #2, 4, 5, Dungeon #128, Dragon #301, 337)
Hardby (Living Greyhawk Journal #1, Dungeon #109)
Irongate (Dragon #351)
Istivin (Dungeon #117, 118, 119)
Sasserine (Dungeon #139, Savage Tide Player's Guide)
Scuttlecove (Dungeon #95, 146)

I have a feeling I am forgetting one or two. Here are a few articles on countries or major places of mystery:

Bright Desert (Dungeon #98, 103)
Isle of Dread (Dungeon #114, 142, 143, 144, 145)
Land of Black Ice (Dungeon #115, 126)
Shield Lands (Dungeon #113)
Vault of the Drow (Dragon #298, 301)

A list of all Dungeon adventures by Greyhawk kingdom would be pretty cool. There are a LOT more resources if you count that sort of thing.

Well, that's officially my shopping list! As soon as funds allow I'm going to start knocking backissues off the list. Thanks! And keep 'em coming!
