That's really sad that his art is dying. I hope he finds students to continue on for him.
Personally though, I've always favored Japanese archery. I like their styles of bows and their overall technique.

*edit* And actually, I always try to have an NPC bowyer. Makes for a good shop, feat training, and skill craft: bowmaking/fletching training.
