Well, I play with this gm, have for years, its his turn in our group to gm, he is not to bad but we have this problem. He doesnt give out experience points. It is really flippin annoying; He wants all this npc to be gods I guess, they are all like 12th level and above and we are all 1st level; been 1st level for 6 gaming sessions; we have a total of 300 exps, been adventuring on 2 continents, I played in his game before; after a year of playing once, i got to 5th level; any of you got any advice on how to tell this guy that we would like to get more exps; he gives exps at the end of story chapters which is fine, but sheesh; is it just me? Our poor mage poor mage has 3 hit points and you know how brittle that is; poor guy gets heckled by some others to cast more spells, but really; what does he get; one a day and some orisons; I am thinking we as a group need to all say we want some exps and want to have our characters level as well as role play; I dont know; any suggestions?

Get together as a group and make sure everyone else is in agreement. Then approach the DM with your concerns as a group. Be prepared for the DM to take a bit of a hard stance and have your responses prepared. If it is unacceptable to have the DM continue to DM due to inflexibility then politely tell him/her that someone else in the group will be DMing in their stead unless he/she wants to conform to the "xp every session" RAW way of giving out experience, and have whoever is the probable replacement ready to run a game THAT NIGHT if necessary. If the DM takes this little run-in as a mutiny then you may be in for trouble down the road even if he/she feigns compliance. Be ready for lack of treasure or magic items, slight rules changes that are more favorable to the monsters, and tactics used to keep the party in a constant state of weakness (ability drains constantly, no chances to rest, no access to magic upgrades, etc). Some DMs get off on making the game hard on their players by making every waking moment a futile struggle against the rules of their world.

Also consider having the group hand the DM a published adventure path for him/her to run. Age of Worms, Shackled City, Savage Tide, they are all killer campaigns if run RAW. Tell the DM you guys want to play in one of those by the rules.
Be careful not to be hurtful in what is said during the discussion and try not be loud and confrontational.
That's my advice.

Yeah, what FH said. Go to the DM as a group, and state your case, saying you want your characters to advance. If the DM refuses, or if the DM complies, but then engages in sort other form of anti-PC behaviour as revenge, you'll need to drop him as DM.

(Actually, the no-advancement style of game isn't too bad... provided the players agree to it beforehand. Also, there is no way I would consider something like that before at least 5th level.)

What Fakey said. Approach it as a united front, don't be confrontational, be nice about it. "Look, we really like your campaign, however, we don't feel that the challenges we've overcome are properly reflected in our experience points."

Or something like that.

Yep, that was pretty much what I was thinking, but just wanted some feedback, I wouldnt mind playing a low level game if nearly everyone around us wasn't akin to diefic power and as most people in the group cant even take one hit of 8 points, well, were in for a lot of character rolling if your not a warrior type with decent stamina.
