My group has completely succumbed to the temptations of Shadowrun now.

"D&D? Is that a new megacorp?"

Looks like I'll be running SR3 for a bit. Some Year of the Comet sounds good.

You guys can make a run against wizards of the coast. It has been taken over by a rogue AI and is releasing new editions of the game every month. The rpga network has hired the team to take out the AI and sabatoge the RnD of the new 101E DnD game). You end up getting caught up in some DnD themed UV host.

Or you could just play the Brainscan campaign, which is pretty awesome if you are looking for some good 3E material.

I introduced myself to gaming in the early 90's with both AD&D 2nd Ed and Shadowrun Second Edition. As I drifted away from AD&D I fell all the more in love with Shadowrun. I felt the game was a little klunky at first but the late Second Edition era splat books streamlined it a lot. Third Edition totally blew me away and I was reminded why I loved Shadowrun all over again. As the game fell by the wayside with WizKids I lost touch with the game. Last summer I got a kick ass campaign idea and I whipped out my old books and went to work getting it ready to run.

I saw a quickstart rules booklet for Fourth Edition back in '06 but was very unsure. As I was prepping my new game to run last fall I decided to pick up a copy of the then out of print rulebook and boy was I ever impressed. The rules are streamlined and the world takes into account all the things I had been modifying Third Edition to do. Third Edition was released over 10 years ago now (1997) so it needed an update pretty badly.

Simply put, Fourth Edition Shadowrun is amazing. I have fallen in love with the game all over again and I am ecstatic to see it back in print.

My game last fall ran 16 missions, longer than a Paizo AP, and was one of the most rewarding campaigns I ever ran. It took us 4 months to play and weighed in as the longest game I have run. I was considering posting the adventures on RPG Host but I don't know if anyone would even be interested and if it would even be worth the effort of converting from my notes to a presentable mission.

Did I mention I *heart* Shadowrun, too?

Cool, I've run a couple of Shadowrun campaigns, but not a 4E one. The most recent one I ran was the Brainscan campaign for 3E and it was really fun. We played for about a year, with a few other missions in there as well. The climax of Brainscan with the run against the Renrakru arcology really rocked.

I hear you
I'm prepping to run 4th as soon as I feel comfortable enough with the rules. I'm also waiting for arsenal to hit the shelves on the 16th or 18th of this month.

I loved the new rules so much I switched after the first session of my last game. We played about half of the first mission and switched over. The new rules are so much more streamlined and logical than the old rules.

I absolutely rocks and I recommend it to anyone who likes the game. I plan on picking up the splat books for it as soon as I have the cash. Arsenal is the big one for me but Street Magic looks really useful if you're a vet of the game and want more of the weird magic.

I just recently picked up "Augmentation" and "Corporate Enclaves". I already have "Street Magic". I will definitely get "Arsenal" next as I am eagerly waiting for it. Then I just have to get "Runner Havens" and "Emergence" to have all of the 4th edition stuff. Oh, yes I already have "On the Run" and the GM screen also.

I've heard alot about SR and I've been interested in playing it, but I'm a bit lost as to where to start. If anyone starts a PbP I'd love to join in, though being a complete noob I'd have to be coddled a bit till I learn the rules xD

The Fourth Edition rulebook is pretty easy to pick up and start playing. If you're looking for adventures plese, allow me to do some shameless pimping.

Who Would Want A Sahdowrun Adventure Path?

and of course

Shadowrun: Urban kaos

Anyone into SR should take a good hard look at these excellent cyber noir books. They are practiacally a sourcebook for an alternate setting. Next time I run SR, it will be without magic, and with stacks and rental bodies, and downloads. Nothing like a run to get your body back. That bad guy you killed? He gets reincarnated in time for your birthday. For the deadliest runs, you could buy black market bodies and go in then get the payload, and pop your own stack on the temp meat.

His writing is like a collaboration between new Gibson and Raymond Chandler, with the sick depth of George R.R Martin.

Yah, those are great books, Tal.

I play a character that my DM has affectionately titled a "pornomancer" (social adept).

We recently played a game where our characters had stolen millions of nuyen worth of military equpiment from an Aztechnology airfield. Not only did we do this, but we also managed to destroy half the base, take out numerous guards, organize a rebel strike against an outlying factory, and kill the base's top-ranking mage. Unfortunately they found us - thus began a statewide manhunt. After our troll and his girlfriend were killed, our sniper vanished, and our rigger was forced to stay in Cuba, it was three of us and a rep from the Russian mob trying to escape. With nothing but a high Con roll and a cigarette packed with a heat-activated nuerostun delivery capsule, my character hijacked a chartered fishing boat and we made our escape.

There is a sense of unbalance to Shadowrun that is perfect and real - sure, a mage can summon a Force 8 spirit to run amok, but one strike from a street samurai can take an initiate down. For example, my character can con his way into and out of any situation he wants, but the one time he's found out a single bullet from a low-level security guard can put him down. I only recently discovered this game and absolutely love it - it's everything that I want to see in DnD, only in a cyperpunk setting.

Oddly enough, I despise Eberron - I hate the entire idea of the setting.

Question: is there a Shadowrun-like system that allows for DnD fantasy customization?

Oh, and I want to run a PbP forum Shadowrun game... but no one in the RP forums I've been to want to play it! Any ideas?

Ever play Earthdawn?

I'm too busy. If you'd come here 6 months ago you would have had me.

I've never played a pbp before. What kind of time commitment would be involved? I love shadowrun, but haven't had a chance to play in a while. I'm interested

Chalk me up as interested also. But I too have never played pbp and would like an idea of how that works and what sort of time commitment is needed.

Oh, and I LOVES me some Shadowrun, for all the reasons you named and more.

Shadow Lodge

As a proud collector of ALL the Shadowrun sourcebooks and modules from 1E through 4E (yes, I'm that much of a looser) SR has always had a spot near and dear to my heart. It took me forever to find Universal Brotherhood and not turn in a kidney to pick it up.

I've tried 4th, but I'm still a bit uncomfortable with some of the changes they made to the game (although the changes made between 1st and 2nd is what made it into one of my favorites). I still don't think to date I've seen a world as richly set forth as that which they've done for SR.

I'm still heartbroken that the connections between Earthdawn and Shadowrun weren't as fully realized as they could have been.

I remember the flavor and style of Shadowrun fondly...almost as much as I despised the whole dice system of the game.

Last time I played, I was running an ork physical adept--a biker-style guy that liked to crush beer cans on his forehead--and our little group of runners had broken into a club after hours to...I don't remember what it was we were even supposed to nab, just that Spike was going to lift a fifth or two of good bourbon while they did it...and we ran into three troll bouncers. A fight ensued, and Spike managed to finish off two of them solo, using hand-to-hand, before the other four players had gunned down the third troll. Really wonky system...we discussed afterward if it would be any better using the old Cyberpunk rules as a replacement.

Ahh the good old times of Shadowrun second edition: Though i really like D&D Shadowrun was so much more better systemwise, IMHO. No class or level system and totally free character building causes so much less problems. There was no superhuman-effect because theoretically even the most upgraded Streetsam could be taken down by a shot to the head fired by average joe. And if you really messed things up....well let´s say your Dm had lot´s of ways to totally ruin your day.
Only the decking rules were practically unplayable if you didn´t want to tell all the other players to fo to the pub for a few hours because the player playing the decker is getting bored.

woot; just played in a pick up shadowrun game; was Gun Adept Orc :)

Liberty's Edge

*bump*

Our game group just randomly started up a SR2 campaign while playing in a 4e D&D game when we all realized that every player at the table was a fanatic SR fan lol!

I almost forgot how much I love this system!! Combat Pool dice and Karma Pool mechanics + gritty death system = my favorite RPG combat mechanics ever.

Having a grenade rule called "Chunky Salsa" pretty much says it all lol.
