Hello there; if everything goes according to plan, this will be a log of the continuing adventures of a rag-tag group of disparate travellers seeking adventure in the decaying Kingdom of Nyrond (more or less as described in The Marklands, so prior to the more positive changes as written in the LGJ).
There will be fiendish foes to be defeated, vile cultists, corrupt officials, and of course, the machinations of both the Old One and the Scarlet Brotherhood. There will be sword-swinging action, mysterious ruins to be investigated, dire evils to be slain, and naturally more than a dash of dismal, unremitting bleakness, as befits a DM with more background in reading Lovecraft, Barker and Poe than Tolkein :) :)
The posters will be myself (Colin Lloyd, the DM) and the three players (Richard Stanton, Michael Tabor, and Aaron Sands), and I would like to invite one and all to join in and make this an entertaining account of the party's journeys together as they range across this particular corner of Oerth (and possibly to points beyond... ...)
I'm not sure if the lads in question will be posting in character or out, but I leave that to their individual tastes and preferences.
To arms, gentlemen...villany awaits the taste of your steel!
Cheers,
Colin

It is certainly worth noting that one of the participants in the campaign, Richard Stanton, has created a fantastic blog journal from the perspective of his two characters, the thief, Jee-na(who has been in the group from its inception three sessions ago) and the half-elven monk, Aerie Moonshadow (who is joining to replace a slain gnome cleric, torn apart during the last session in the midst of a fierce battle with half-ooze lizardfolk warriors).
It can be accessed here; http://callistor.blogspot.com
Excellent blog, Richard!

When last we joined our heros, three meet thier fate to the slime lizard folk. Genrich a fighter who seeked to rediscover a lost heritage he belonged to. Tar and gnomish cleric who was spreading word of Garl Glittergold and the greatness of gnomes. The last was a barbarian name Thurakk. He fighting skills were to not be matched. They will be sorely missed.
But from the ashes arises three new heros. I youthful halfling cleric whose curiousness may get the better of him. A half-eleven monk who brings peace and insight ("And my best friend!", said Tas the halfling) Finally a mysterious figure in the shadows waiting to emerge.
I think we should choice a color for talking in character. If paizo allows that. If not just use quotes

I am Nielandyr, a knight of what once was (and still is to many), the Great Kingdom. I have traveled across Oerth and find myself here-to what purpose or design I do not know. I was a squire to Sir Enricard of Rel Astra during the Great War and fought by his side until his death two years ago. My journey to here was filled with peril, but not as much as I see in the future since I made the acquaintance of the halfling, Tassleleaf Bungleherd.
Tas (as he likes to be called) seems to be insufferably curious and always involved in some manner of mischief (as far as I can tell from my short experience with him). I have no doubt that this will lead to unforessen consequences in the future. To his credit, he is a cheerful fellow.
I must remind myself daily of the past glories that have guided me and set my path. The glory of the Great Kingdom shall be preserved through my deeds and words.
JopoRyk
I, Aerie Moonshadow, hereby declare my intentions:
Tassleleaf Bungleherd and Nielandyr, I am hardly well-equipped to deal with fungal creatures. My unarmed combat will place me always within range of the infection spores of which thou hast spoken. I will nonetheless join thy party to rid the world of these aberrations.
Ehlonna, god of my mothers, protectress of animals and plants, has called upon me to regain the balance of nature in Nyrond, thereby glorifying her name. Heironeous, god of my fathers, god of valor, grants me the strength to restore justice wherever I see wrong.
This land, Nyrond, is very wrong. The evil is everywhere; it permeates my senses.
JopoRyk
To Tassleleaf Bungerherd from Aerie Moonshadow, by the grace of Heironeous the Valorous:
Thy name, brave halfling, is Tassleleaf Bungleherd. 'Tis the name thou hast been given or that thou hast chosen, and thy Lord looks upon thee with great favor. Dishonor her not by minimizing thy name, lest thou becomest minimized thyself in the eyes of Yondalla.
I welcome thee as a hale fellow: brave, proud, and true. Thy vow of friendship is surprising and causes me caution, yet I welcome thy good wishes with a welcoming heart.
We must convene at some time to share stories of our gods in their infinite wisdom, and perhaps bring inspiration one unto another through the tales of our adventures.
Runfer
I feel so honored that you would be my best friend, Aerie. Can I call you Aer? I do not feel I diservice the goddess Yondalla with a shortened name. Many a halfling have nicknames. It makes it easier when we wander and travel.
I am hoping for great adventures. I have heard that there is cloud over this area and Yondalla has called me to cleanse the region.
I hope that you can join me. That knight makes me nervous. Scared??? No I don't get scared easily, I am just nervous. I see you talk of Heironeous. It is good that you follow the god of valor. I feel that you are trustworthy enough that I can share with you my secret weapon. It was a gift of my great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- great- grandfather. He once destroyed hundreds of mushrooms with it. But I con't show it here. Too many eyes might gaze upon its power.
JopoRyk
An thou callest me by other than my name, mayhap I shall respondeth not. An thou honorest me with my true appellation, then verily will I cherish thee.
Yon knight distresseth me not, for a stout warrior of his ken is most welcome as we face the perils to come. Heironeous grant him the strength to hold true in his quest.
We three, Tassleleaf Bungleherd, are a scant force. Mayhap we shouldst seek others who also seek to restore rightness to this valley of Nyrond.
I must meditate, for the days to come be filled with challenges unforeseable and dire.
Praise Ehnolla, goddess of the woodlands.
Praise Heironeous the Invincible.

Oh Mighty DM. What are the chances of us three remaining Characters, making it back to Callistor? We are resting for the evening to recoup losses and try and gain hps.
Ina'ceer
Jee'na
Mage(can't spell his name right now)
There is a 100% chance of making it back to Callistor in an unmolested fashion, provided the survivors do not dally to investigate the sites and sounds (and even smells... ...) of the Gnatmarsh and the town of Aylesbury.
From there, concerns run to perhaps extending the long term stay at your inn, seeking training, and finding establishments to refurbish and replace your equipment, not to mention tracking down any pieces of information that may be of use to you in your investigations of the mycological menace which seems to be emerging from the mosquito-ridden bog...
JopoRyk
Jee-Na: It is certain then that we three shall return to Callistor, transporting in some safe fashion the items we removed from the mansion before its destruction (and the loss of our companions). We will want to look again at the items to determine what to keep and what to sell.
Training, as you said, is a good idea, and I wonder also if we might find others to join our party. Three of us is too few for the dangers we have faced, and we have lost our healer as well as our muscle.
I want to discover what this wand may be used for, and am sorely tempted to start aiming it at things and yelling "Abracadabra!"
I do not want to rest too long in Callistor. I feel drawn to travel to the northlands, to see Squire's brother.
Runfer
Just a reply to everyone.
Ina'ceer: "I must mediate and focus my brain on new knowledge and powers. I also believe we should look into extended our stay at the inn for a longer period. Currently, we are in need of funds what can we sell and how much money to we have with us."
"Je'naa, I understand that you still feel drawn to the north, but we were ill prepared to battle that priest of Jubilexx, and we must be better prepared for the oncoming war. You must control your mind on such issues."
(It would appear she has had her mind clouded by something to cause this strange fanination with the person.)
"Akathis, do you think you can seek from other wizards as the what is happening around town"
OOC: How much money do we have? We should also sell anything not worth keeping from the other characters who have passed on.
13garth13
Whew....a lot to cover....
First and foremost is to write down a list of everything that you gentlemen decide is for sale from whatever ill-begotten loot you have procured, and then I will be able to inform you of what you can sell, where you can sell it, and how much profit you make and then we can get a better idea of where things sit, treasure wise.
For, unfortunately, those who train others often seek compensation of some variety, typically monetary...Luckily, Ina'ceer at the very least needs but to train himself through meditations and such (although he may need to expend funds for incenses, minor crystals and gems for mental focusing, etc, his costs will be substantially less than for one who has the need to be trained by another as will often be the case for thieves, mages, fighters, clerics, etc).
Jee-na, when doing your prowl for information just roll your gather information check and tell me the result. Keep in mind that bribery might work under certain circumstances, as "sharing" some of your wealth might allow bonuses to be accrued depending on whether you are interested in specific rumours or just what the word around town is in general (if the latter is the case, then using bribery will probably be of little use to boost your score, but if you are seeking out any rumours about specific individuals, families, towns, etc. then it might loosen the tongues of those who would otherwise be recalcitrant).
Oh, and it bears noting that Gather Information can be repeated every d4+1 hours if you are not satisfied with your first (or subsequent) rolls, but depending on what information is being sought out, repeated requests for knowledge may draw unwanted attention... ... ...
Akarthis can also attempt an untrained (or possibly trained...although I doubt it ;-) Gather Info check to see what the word on the street is regarding curio shops, potion/salve/ointment/oil brewers, large libraries, antiquarian book shops, and other such locations which might point you towards the nearest concentration of those who dabble in the arcane arts, keeping in mind that in a town the size and nature of Callistor, a true Mage's Guild is as unlikely to be found as a virtuous succubus.
Finally, at the risk of being a not-so subtle guiding voice rather than an impartial narrator ;-) Ina'ceer's caution regarding the squire's brother is perhaps a sensible position given how little you currently know of what it is you are investigating (and recent evidence in the form of the statuettes which Akarthis spotted in the den of the squire could possibly point to an alternate source of villany than the Faceless Lord, Juiblex). Speaking in regards to Ina-ceer's words of restraint and his suspicions, Ina-ceer and Akarthis may once again (upon return to Callistor) make Sense Motive checks, opposed by Jee-na's Bluff check.
BTW, when it comes to Gather Info checks and the aforementioned Sense Motive and Bluff checks, it would definitely be prudent to use the mystic, mysterious communication device called EE-MAYL rather than publicly posting the results of checks :) :) That way, I can just respond back to the individuals in question and tell them what they know/find out/suspect and if that player decides that his character "goes public" with their information, then so be it.
Finally, Ina-ceer is of course using that big psi-brain of his when he considers that maybe the local wizards might know something......but naturally that particular avenue will only become open when someone discovers/trips over the nearest concentration of mages :) :)
Sorry for not posting earlier, gents....it's been a busy day at the office ;-) ;-)
13garth13
First off Ina'ceer is a female. She is offended that you refer to her as a male. Be careful before she uses her powers to send an astral construct student after you :)
Ooops....DM's bad....he humbly apologizes to the androgenous psion ;-)
How much should the insence and minerals for mediation cost her?
For normal characters, my rule of thumb is 500gp/level gained for materials, payment of tutor, etc. but for a self-sufficient psionicist it would be half that (so 1000gp in total for you, and around 2000gp for the thief to pay off the guild for training). Training costs may seem high, but if you go through your treasure lists and equipment of your *ahem* previous colleagues, you'll see you have that and much more in value.
Of course, it is worth noting that there would have been a few thousand more gold pieces worth of art works and assorted antiquities (not to mention lavish furnishings) in the manor home of the squire which you may at best be able to currently sell for a few coppers as charcoal to up and coming art students :) :)
Tomorrow is TGIF! :) :)
Cheers and good night all,
Colin

Ryk: The items we took from Squire's house include the following:
Holy Symbol (Zuggmoid)
Chain Mail (magic)
Morningstar (magic)
Amulet
5 Rings (one of which is magic)
Minor gems
Also, from the lizard fungoids, we took two sets of extra-fine chain mail.
I wish we had thought to pillage the mansion's furnishings - Being new to the game, however, I have to ask: how would we have carried these things? Do we have a cart of some sort, or is it just a sort of meta-gamed assumption that we can carry things with us just because we said we could?
It appears Jee-Na can equip a morningstar, so I would like to sell my rapier for that if evceryone agrees that's a good idea. If one of the rings will help, I'd be happy to add a ring...but we don't yet know what they do.
JopoRyk
Jee-Na rolled a 15 (11 plus 4) for her Gather Informaiton.
She would like to know the best place to sell our goods and buy equipment; she would also like to know if there are any mages around.
She's willing to lightly grease a few palms here and there, using her sex appeal with the men (using an 18 for Bluff) to make them more willing to tell her what she wants to know.
13garth13
Well, with a roll of 15 and the use of Charisma for Bluff, and 20gp (200sp) worth of bribes, you are pointed towards the following locations of excellent reputation...
Armour - Karovan's Smithy
- Shaikorth's Mails
Weapons - Bahik's Armaments
- Seitergud's Weapons Shoppe
Gems/Jewelry - Prem's Pretties (the only half-way decent shop in the entire town...unsurprising given the surroundings)
Miscellaneous - Callistor Bazaar (a mud-splattered series of ramshackle tents and tables with ropes, pegs and tarpaulins making a navigational nightmare through the hodgepoodge of merchants, both professional and amature)
Training - ... ....Truth be told, the only thing Jee-na needed the 20gp bribe and sex appeal for (all the other pieces of information requiring no higher than a 15) was to locate a place where she could *ahem* hone her "adventuring" skills, and in a small fish-seller's stall (Babok's Catch) she locates a contact with the resident "guild", a rag-tag group of scoundrels and outlaws with very little attention to proper guild-like rules and codes of behaviour much more aimed at the dissemination of information regarding any merchants or nobles fit for fleecing by bandits and such. As low-brow and crass as these individuals are, Jee-na can make contacts here and seek training by the master "adventurer" in residence, Skrayf "Storyteller" Berlow.
As for mage-related information, the contacts Jee-na has made point her towards Langwellan's Curios, where you may encounter those willing to share arcane knowledge or even identify magical items for a price and possibly purchase them... ...
The financial gain for the goods sold to various interested buyers
- unholy symbol of Zuggtmoy = 13 gold pieces ("Oh yes...I can think of a buyer for that item, make no mistake about it...I'll take it!")
- 4 rings (presuming that you will not sell a magical item until it is properly identified) = 1700 gp
- minor gems = 280 gp
- extra-fine chain mail = 300 gp
- amulet = 380 gp
- masterwork mace = 156 gp
- masterwork rapier = 160
Grand total for the last session, so not including the items looted from the bodies of the bandits encountered on the road (not including any of the magical items which have not yet been identified) = 2989 gold pieces
Now, as for how to carry back huge amounts of treasure...I generally will handwave the unlikelihood of carrying three or four extra suits of chainmail back to town for metagaming purposes, but you are correct in assuming that looting an entire manse would have required a cart to have been brought back from Callistor post-haste or some other similar mode of mass transportation procured to load up ottomans, tapestries, etc.
Finally, I have nothing special in mind for how the three survivor's of the fiery debacle will meet their soon-to-be comrades in arms....have at it any old way you choose :) :)
Cheers,
Colin

Nielandyr, Tas, and Aerie Moonshadow have already met one another and are interested in joining another party. Each has his own reason for joining, but all are committed.
Overhearing questions during Jee-Na's Gather Information, they approach her and her companions to discuss the possibility of their joining forces. Jee-Na and her companions know they need others to help them on their adventuring and are delighted to welcome a knight, a half-elf monk, and a halfling cleric.
So now we are again a party of six, and it seems they can all engage in conversation.
Aerie Moonshadow, by the way, is incensed that Jee-Na refuses to divulge her real name. He doesn't much care for her; she seems a bit immoral for his tastes. Nevertheless, he is not judging her...he is just a bit on edge around her.
13garth13
Thorakk's and Genrich's possessions net the party an additional 2553 gold pieces and 5 silver pieces to spend on training, bribery, replenishing supplies, and purchasing any equipment that you deem necessary for your upcoming travails.
If you combine it with the coinage which I had previously listed, then your grand total for all is 5542 gp and 5 sp. How you wish to distribute it amongst the three survivors is completely up to you (some would subtract training costs from the total as it benefits the party as a whole and then distribute the remainder equally, but others might divide it initially and leave it up to the individuals to fend for their own advancement and re-equipment).
Cheers all,
Colin
P.S. And an important P.S. at that :)
Due to the size and condition of the town of Callistor, no single item (of either mundane or magical nature) of greater than 2500 gold pieces can be purchased. Also, the availability of magical equipment beyond potions, scrolls, wands, etc. will be sorely lacking but I can deal with that on a case by case basis. Let me know either by post or private EE-MAYL ;-) what you seek to track down in Callistor and I'll aprise you of the situation.
P.P.S. Since it will be in all likelihood a safe base of operations, a map of the town of Callistor will be (eventually) made available to you. It won't be the world's greatest cartographical achievement ;-), but it should give you a good idea of the layout, and some of the points of interest.

I say we split the money three ways and then use the money how we each need to for training and personal supplies.
That gives each character 1847 gp and 5 sp.

Ina'ceer: I agree with Akarthis if you desire the chain mail shirt. You may have it. Should we deduct the gp from the price of the chain mail shirt from your money. There was nothing from the items that I have a desire for.
OOC: Does anyone know the process I need to do to get a psicrystal. I already have psicrystal affinity feat.
JopoRyk
Jee-Na: I will take the chain mail shirt. If you wish to have the value of this reduced from my money, that is fine. However, it seems our practice has been to divvy up the loot as appropriate and then sell what remained, thereby separating the money in that manner.
However, I will let the decision for that rest with you, Ina'ceer, and you, Akarthis.
At present, I have other matters to which I am attending.

Regardless of who decides to pay what (and by the Mace of St. Cuthbert, who would have suspected that a group of adventurers in the service of {ostensibly} the forces of good could be so mercenary about monetary wealth? ;-) ;-) the final cost will be 50 gp out of either the total treasure amount, or instead the personal treasure amount of a character, which ever path you decide to follow... ...
Cheers, (and welcome to the new work week, eh! ;-) ;-)

And speaking of psi-crystals, Ina'ceer should do some gathering of information, and/or follow up on the leads which the other players have procured in order to track down possible mental foci to improve her powers, and then she might very well find what she is looking for... or perhaps not... ... ...
JopoRyk
OOG: I was speaking in character as I debated the way we would split up the loot and money. It seemed to me Jee-Na would want as much profit as she could have. No big deal, though: I would appreciate some clever mathematician letting me know how much gold I should add to my stores. I took not only the chain shirt but also the magical morningstar and a magic ring. I did sell my masterwork rapier and leather armor, though.
Wait: is the magical mporningstar a better weapon that masterwork rapier? If not, I'll keep the rapier. Or ought I keep both? Advise me!

JopoRyk
Dear DM: We need to rewind everything to Friday, when I posted all of the booty we looted from Squire and his henchlizards.
Holy Symbol (Zuggmoid)
Chain Mail (magic)
Morningstar (magic)
Amulet
5 Rings (one of which is magic)
Minor gems
Two sets of extra-fine chain mail.
I will let Ina'ceer and Akarthis take care of how to do things and what to do. They know what they're doing better than I.
Jee-na is interested in equipping Thorakk's chain mail shirt and the magic morningstar, and she is interested in the magic ring as well. I don't know if the ring would benefit her, so it may be that Akarthis or Ina'ceer might make better use of it...or it might be better off to sell it.
Whatever they decide.

Ok everyone hold-up. Let's determine what we are going to sell and what we are going to keep for each other. I think the first thing would be to identify any magical items and determine if someone wants it or even a regular item. After we have identified the items lets see who wants what. Here are the items so far. If there are any to add, ass them in a new post. If there is a item your character wants respond with their name next to the item.
Holy Symbol (Zuggmoid)
Chain Mail (magic)
Morningstar (magic) [Jee'na]
Amulet
5 Rings (one of which is magic)
Minor gems
two sets of extra-fine chain mail
masterwork mace
Longsword +1 (magical)
Shortsword
Masterwork Longsword
+1 Bastard Sword
3 Throwing Axes
Morningstar
Chain Shirt [Jee'na]
If anything is doubled, Sorry. I just went through the posts and copied and pasted items that I saw.

Repeating from before...
Jee-na is interested in equipping Thorakk's chain mail shirt and the magic morningstar, and she is interested in the magic ring as well. I don't know if the ring would benefit her, so it may be that Akarthis or Ina'ceer might make better use of it...or it might be better off to sell it. After we ID it we'll know for sure.

I leave for a few hours, and this is what happens... ... ;-) ;-)
I'm not going to offer any advice when it's unsolicited, so if you lot have things firmly under control, I'll just wait until you've created an agreed upon list of what to sell and what to save for identification (looks like at least one person has placed their votes...let's get everyone's opinions).
From there, people can look around/gather information to find a place to possibly have them identified and see whether you want to keep any of those items. When that's done I will be able to create a total value of gold/silver pieces for you lot to divvy up.
Then people can finally re-equip themselves, train, snoop around for things to purcharse, etc. etc.
Cheers (and thanks to all my players for keeping things civilized and not getting frustrated with your compatriots ... we're here to have fun, not get bogged down in accounting minutiae :) :)
