When figuring word count on a stat block... what counts? I guess the easiest way to answer this would be to tell me how many "words" are in the following stat block:

When you write an adventure, say, in Microsoft Word (the word processer we use), you can click the handy "Word Count" button to get a word count. That's what we go by. I'm pretty sure it would count "CR 12" as 2 words, and "Fort +3, Will +4, Reflex +4" as six words.
We're uninterested in word counts for paragraphs, statblocks, or even entire pages. We only care about the entire manuscript, since in the end, things average out more or less.
As for that stat block, Word says there's 155 words in it, so that's what we go with.

We at Paizo were grateful to learn that trick last week, because it meant we finally got to fire the guy we'd hired to count all of the words in everyone's submissions. (His name was Raymond, and he was kind of creepy.)

Of special note for those of you who use superscript "B" for bonus feats you can eliminate the space between it and the feat it goes with and save yourself one whole word!
Also try not to use too many multi-word spells, feats or magical items.
Remember: A word saved is a word earned!

PS Truth be told, I only tolerated Raymond.

Personally, I've found replacing spaces with dashes helps as well. If you want to estimate the net savings, just look at the paragraph total with the Word count feature and treat that as your word count total.
