Dragon...Issue #1

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

I've got a couple of questions about Dragon issue #1. It was supposedly for sale on e-bay last month. Anybody know what it went for? Also, need an answer to this question. How many copies of #1 were published, back in 1976? I know it was either 3,000 or 10,000 but can't remember which. Care to enlighten me?

The Ebay copy went for over $125, but I could not find the refererence when I looked for it today. Also, I have and would like to sell another Premier Issue, excellent condition, no labels. I will be placing it on Ebay soon, but would like to know if the Ebay price is really the market price for this document.

It was, I believe, $135. I could not find reference to it today since I have another premiere edition to sell. My question is if this is really the market value for this document.

If you're not already familiar with it, the Acaeum (http://www.acaeum.com/) is a good site to find prices for D&D collectables. Their prices are subject to market variations, but they tend to be pretty accurate in the long run.

The Acaeum values a copy of The Dragon #1 at anything from $75 to $300, depending on its condition. $125 would be a good price for one in Fair ("several large and significant flaws") to Good ("shows heavy wear, but is still solid") condition.

Is Acaeum the best place to sell this document? or here at this site?

You might well be able to find a buyer at the Acaeum - there are private sales from time to time between the collectors who frequent the forums there. On the other hand, Ebay may well be your best overall bet if you want to reach the broadest possible customer base - it's hard to predict what prices will be there, though.

I've no idea about finding a buyer here at the Paizo site. It's not a typical venue for such a thing, afaik.

I would recommend selling via ebay amd notifying the audience at the Acaeum. This way, you should get the best deal IMHO.
