We just finished Sign of the Smoking Eye tonight. 3 sessions, 21 hours. What fun.
I had foreshadowed the smoking eye and even adimarchuss, somewhat, threw dreams. The rogue was the one to have the visions and was very curious when it was brought up by Kaophorn. However, they did not trust the sorcerer and shortly after arriving to occipitus the paladin chased Kaophorn off. Eventully Kaophorn used blasphemy and the rogue was banished back to the material plane, leaving no one that was willing enough to sacrifice an ally or them selves to receive the smoking eye template. But they did sacrifice a toad and a squirrel.
So they left with out the smoking eye. I'm sure they will be back adventually but all were disappointed by the "failure" of the mission.
Anyone else have a group not receive the "gift" of the smoking eye?

My group dit almost as bad: they decided to jump in together. ... At the exact same time.... I had a pretty hard time deciding what would happen next. In the end, I went with one character surviving (the cleric). The rest was True resurected. They used kaurophon's amulet of the planes to buy the spell at the cathedral of Pelor in Sasserine.
Back to your game: it may not be that bad that no-one got the smoking eye template. The only time someone really needs it is during the final battle with big A. And I believe the book even has sugestions how to handle that battle if no-one has the template. Another option is to have the adventurers rush back to occipitus at the end of the AP in order to get the smoking eye template. This could still be the rogue, so keep up those prophetic dreams!

In my game the rogue pc got the smoking eye. I fortold the event through dreams to the rage mage, but in the end it was the rogue who got it, after it was revealed that she is the son of adimarchus (long story, but a great moment). The cool part is she things she is the only heir. I cant wait to surprise here when she discovers there are several out there who wish to upsurp her.
I think alot of people passed on this chapter, but it was so much fun for my PC's.

My running of the Final Test came out frikken awesome!
Since I was running an Evil party, they had a classic "theives fall out" scenario, with the party turning on itself as soon as the light bulbs went on!
Kaurophon and two party members were killed, with two other characters eventually leaving Occipitus with the Sign - and several others who intended to return later to get it, now that they knew how. They planned to dupe low-level grunts into returning to Occipitus with them before sacrificing them to gain the Sign.
It was great,
