Any tips / tricks for hassle free scanning of the SDF?

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

So I've been submitting stuff on a pretty regular basis, and I find the process I'm using to handle the attached SDF to be quite cumbersome. I print it out, fill out the info in black pen, and then scan it in Photoshop. I don't like the quality it comes out at, I think it's too big, the file size is too big, and then I mess with it to get the file size down and worry if I've made the quality so low the guys at Paizo won't be able to read it, etc. I end up taking as much time messing with the SDF as I do creating an article or query.

What do you guys do? Does anyone have a system that's fast and easy?

I've been meaning to ask this too. Would it be possible to scan a signed SDF and then copying/filling in the rest to send? Does anyone already do this?

I just prined out a copy of the SDF and filled in the personal details. then scanned and saved it on my laptop.

Whenever I submit something, I just have to print it off, fill in the query details and date it, then scan it again and attach it to the email, etc...

Not the best or easist way to do it, but it saves me from writing my address out at least.

Try this MR. T Finn,

If you have access to a scanner you can scan your own signature, save it as a .jpg file and import it (insert/picture/from file) to your Word document version of the SDF. Once there resize it (click on it to select it, grab on to one of the corners while holding the shift key and then move the corner until its the right size. Holding the shift when you resize things manually prevents them from looking stretched or disproportioned.) Then place it under the text and move it into the right position. I keep a mostly blank disclosure form with a signature already electronically, and then just type in the title, plot and date information and send it as an attachment with my proposal.

No need for second scans or printing on this one.

Good luck (though not too good),
;)

GGG, thanks!

Is the Word version of the SDF something you scanned in, or is there a Word version available for download? I thought it was just in .pdf.

Is there any good third party scanning software out there, preferably open source?

You can make your own! Simply open the pdf version select and copy the whole thing to your clipboard using the text edit tool and then paste it into a new word document. Viola!

Most scanners come with enough scanning software to fit the bill. So if you have a scanner, chances are you have the software or at least a company name and model number that will allow you to download the right software from the source online.
