What is the purpose of these two items? I'm guessing that eventually a sphere of annhilation comes into play. Basically, i'm thinking of having the Free City Adventurers steal these two items, and the PCs might be able to get them back during the gladiator fights, but I want to make sure they aren't needed before then.
Nope, not used before then - except as clues for Alustan and Eligos to piece together clues about the impending AoW.
The sphere of annhilation can be used to destroy the sphere that surrounds the Ulgurstasta in area 32 (Champions Belt see the side bar on page 60). But that is not the only way that the sphere can be destroyed... so taking away the artifact wouldn't totally ruin things for them - at least for this part of the adventure.
There is a talisman of the sphere but no sphere of annihilation.

Eagerly anticipating the conclusion to this campaign--all the while still pacing the action through the latter part of "The Whispering Cairn". While I wait to skulk around imaginatively through the Wormcrawl Fissure (please come this week, oh issue of Dungeon magazine, please be in my mailbox) I'm going to reread the series again.
I guess maybe I should hurry-up the campaign, seeing as how I'm still on Whispering Cairn!
I figure I'll be about halfway through the AP when the AoW hardbound copy comes out!
