Anyway, see there's this dire flumph, and these carbuncle ninjas and...oh, nevermind I guess you've already read it.
I particularly like how the carbuncles shoot throwing star gems out of their head, kinda like how Guiron does in Gamera vs. Guiron.

Can't we an adventure starring Celestial Gas-Spore Paladins? It could be called - 'The Hellish Dire Corbies/Topiary Guardians/ Sky-Bleeders alliance of old Muggly Moor and the Cinnabar Temple of Woe'. Or something...

What's this business? Shouldn't that be "can't we DO an adventure", oh policeman of typographical errors?

I thought that was one of your locations in the Alhaster backdrop.

Liberty's Edge

Hi,

I've read someone mentioning something about "Bucknard's fate".

Did I miss something in that adventure ? Where is Bucknard mentioned (page / column...), please ??

Balakarde is actually the AoW analogy for Bucknard.

Curses! Foiled again!

Getting things a bit back on track here...

I'm confused about the the title "Prince of Redhand." Is Redhand the name of the country that Alhaster is the capital of or is it another name-change between Greyhawk and Generic?

Frog God Games

I can answer that one for Rich, ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me!

Yes, ahem. Redhand is the name of the southernmost of the Bandit Kingdoms in Greyhawk and borders on the Nyr Dyv. As such it is the only one of the Bandit Kingdoms with a true port (not just some muddy hole along a river bank). Alhaster is its capital city as it were. Thankfully the Principality of Redhand and its "Prince" Zeech were not watered down for the AoW but are actually a part of the Greyhawk canon.

I just finished reading "The Prince of Redhand" (I recieved my copy only saturday), and I like it very much! The elements making it stand out have been mentioned above: The Law vs. Chaos part, the freakish celebration and queer guests, the strange mood in town, but I think they bear repeating. So, Mr Pett, get off that tree and start writing more adventures like that.

A question for the greyhawkers on this board: where in canon appear Redhand, Alhaster and Prince Zeech ? Is it in Iuz the Evil, as suggested ?

Stefan

Found the reference in the LGG, p. 27.
There Zeech is a Fighter 8/Cleric (Hextor) 4, just mentioned here for the sake of completeness. I sure like the version in the adventure much better.

= IGR casts resurrection on 'PRINCE OF REDHAND' thread =

Instead of creatign a new thread, I thought I would post an update on our sporadic (and in jeopardy) D&D campaign, so here goes....

Last episode was a very much anticipated one - The Prince of Redhand. This is the episode where ROLE playing wins the war, not ROLL playing. My players have number-crunched monster killers, and in their defense, this strategy is propogated by the deadly challenges they have faced and will face in the future.

*****SPOILERS*****

In the very beginning of this module, Manzorian presents the PCs a short note taken from Balakarde's journal regarding the coming of Kyuss and the Ebon Triad. Its practicaly an encounter list of things to do/follow-up on. But at the same time, he drives home the warning to "keep the eyes on the prize". I thought the handout, as they are extremely infrequent, would send some sort of message of importance, but apparently I undermined myself while roleplaying Manzorian.

As a result, the PCs narrowed in on only one mission: meet Lashonna. To this end, they learned about the banquet, and spent the seven days alloted to them (that could have been used for adventuring) designing, acquiring, or creating their formal attire and gift to Zeech.

And also as a result, they passed up on over 1/2 the module, which admittingly is not really important, but still.

I just wanted to let others learn from my experiences (I fall short of calling it a mistake on my behalf intentionally).

We started this module last week and my players really enjoyed it.

They have not gone after Lashonna yet. They spent an hour trying to figure out why the barkeep at the Tipsy Nymph felt nervous about his purple ale. (It was stolen from a clan of dark dwarves deep in the mountains of the Mror Holds.)

They spent the next hour strolling around town, bar hopping and checking out the Great Project. They then checked out the temples and found the burned Church of the Silver Flame. Our Warforged Exorcist of the Silver Flame immediately made plans to investigate the church; they found Rhorsk later that night and raised him.

The night ended with the crew stunning and mind wiping the Sinner's Sanctum and then destroying the Hangman Golem.

My players used find the path to find Ilthane's lair after they completed A Gathering of Winds. They encountered the dragons, made a deal with them, then stayed in Alhaster overnight to prepare better spells.

There was a mix of reactions to Alhaster, with the party druid finally calling it a "mockery of good and nature."

They fled from the acid wraith (a good thing), and went to meet with Tenser. After learning that Bucknard went to investigate the Spire of Long Shadows, they were split on what to do. They felt that they needed to go back to Alhaster to figure out what was going on before going to the Spire.

They ultimately decided to investigate the Spire first, but the little time they spend in Alhaster already has them wanting to go back.

Still time to recover: have Lashonna put off their scheduled meeting by a week, and have one of the PCs rediscover the note from Balakarde's journal in the pocket of his tunic while getting dressed, or some such. (If that's what you want).

I ran the banquet, and the players loved it. I had small snacks handed out that signified each course the player's characters would partake in, and that added a new element. The whole party was quite enjoyable as the players ended up creating enemies and allies that they will lean on in the future.

Its safe to say of all the NPCs they met, they enjoyed the Ominous Fool the most.

The great thing about the fabler was how he evolved from a desire to have a character in both Redhand and Kings. He was born over the course of about a dozen emails between myself and that unspeakable cur Vaughan, we had great fun in seeing him develop and he's as much Greg's as mine to be honest. It was great fun to see an NPC develop so quickly and bounce ideas off such a smarty pants as Greg. I'd love to do another joint adventure with the cad sometime in the future, just don't tell him I said that ok.
