I've been watching the products that Paizo has been creating, and following different discussions on the board. I think it's interesting, the things I read into from the replies from Erik and co. I think the discussions on the Dragon Compendium is particularly insightful in the marketing strategy for the company.
Some of the long-time subscribers wanted more of the older stuff, but some of the newer players seem content. Some people want a book that is geared towards specific topics, such as a Greyhawk Compendium, an Ecology Compendium, and so on. The Paizo staff initially wants books that appeal to a wider audience, hence the first compendium with various topics.
I tend to like books that are focused on a few topics (like Heroes of Horror) instead of a book with multiple "options" (like DMG II). I keep forgetting the specifics of certain books, like Unearthed Arcana, but I always know when I need the Draconomicon or Complete Divine.
I do think that Wizards of the Coast could have published one book for Sandstorm, Frostburn, et. al., into one book similar to Fantasy Flight Games' Wildscape, but maybe could have broken up Lords of Madness into something like the Slayer's Guide books.
As for more Dragon Compendium books, I think that an Ecology book would be an outstanding resource.
