This thread is amazing! I can't figrue out if the question is: which class would I WANT to be, or which class would best define who I am NOW?

I would WANT to be a chaos monk/rogue gnome. It sounds like sneaky, prank filled fun.

I AM a dwarven(based on build) cleric/rougue. Faith, helping, and a jack of odd trades. Not yet above 2nd or 3rd level.

Dark Archive

What would I be, or what would I want to be?

I'd be an ex-paladin warlock(or druid), human, half-dhaelkyr or possibly aasimar. My explanations on this would end up being a real long rant about my life that frankly I don't feel like getting into.

I'd want to be a binder (Tome of Magic), either Ogre Mage (I've always had a soft spot for them), githyanki (my preferred of the two gith races), Aerenal elf ('cause of my neo-goth leanings)or Xen'drick drow (barbaric scorpion worshipers? sweet!).

I've actually played some games where we were human commoners, based upon each other's opinions of what our stats/skills would be, and then had to role-play our adoption into the DnD culture we were mystically transported to. I believe that the first game as such I multi-classed into wizard, and the second time around I joined a church and became a cleric of Azuth or Kelemvor (it's been a while, can't remember).

I WOULD be a chubby human with levels in expert.

I would LIKE to be a wizard. D&D is all about magic, so you have to go with someone who can do it. And I loves me bonus feats.

Race wise, hmmmm....Illumian. I like the runes and the magicalityiness of the race.

I think being a human magewright or artificer in Eberron would be pretty fun. I'd probably be a human expert, though.

I would be an Elven Wizard/Cleric of Mystra, and eventually move into the Fatespinner prestige class. And my alignment would be chaotic neutral.

Dwarf Transmutater

Why? Dwarves are just frekin sweet, Transmutaters are cool cuz they get cool spells...yea...lol...

Ok, I'm sure my choice isn't the 'optimum' choice because I have only the Player's Handbook to pick from, but I would choose a plain ol' Dwarf Cleric. Why? Defense! I want to survive, whether or not I'm destined for fame and fortune. Dwarves are inherantly tough/resistant, and I like their clannish culture as a means of support in case things don't go so well, plus they have bonuses/talents which could make them a respectable living even as a commoner. Clerics have armor, decent hit points, magic, healing spells and allies/patrons from the start(i.e. their church). A safe choice, yes?

Half-elf.
I'm wirey. Slender but heartier than skinny little elves. and my ears are kinda pointy.
8th level Bard.
Cant sing worth a damn though, so my perform skills would probably be spilt between
Perform: Rant
Perform: wise-crack
and
Perform: witticism

I can certainly say that I have use the bardic "fascinate" ability before, and not always to good ends. And I played "Henry V" once so I'd like to think that I have "inspired courage" as well. I draw the line at "inspiring greatness" though. I'll have to level up a bit before I pull that one off.

I'd take the rapier over the bow. I can use a bow, but I'm good with a rapier - maybe even a weapon focus feat.

I may have a level of sorceror thrown in the mix somewhere. I have the odd ability to know (and call beforehand) when a football player is going to miss a field goal. I call it "The Curse of Al Del Greco" and its a phenomenon that spooked out a number of people. Friends even call me on the phone when they need someone to miss a big kick.

Half-elf Bard 7/Sorceror 1.
Yeah. Thats probably pretty close.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

It depends on if we're going by what I would WANT to be or what I AM (or, at least, what I'm closest to).

I WANT to be an elven wizard. Commanding the primal forces of the world and wielding fantastic power is just the ultimate fantasy for me. Living an extremely long time is just a bonus (and, let's be honest, elf chicks are cute!)

I WOULD be a dwarven bard, however. I'm chunky, loud, and I love to tell stories and be the center of attention. I enjoy travelling to places I've never been and seeing all there is to see, then telling people about it and inviting them to go back with me. My musical talent is limited, though. I'm a decent singer, but I can't play an instrument to save my life.

I WOULD be a human sorcerer. I haven't the aptitude for melee, am useless in the wild, wouldn't be bothered to read up on spellore (so a career as a wizard would be out). I would be too distressed at not being able to heal everyone in the world if I were a cleric, plus the armour would be just too much to bear, and I wouldn't have the heart to be a rogue. Oh, and am useless at repeating stories and jokes, plus have no notable artistic skills...

If I had a choice, I would LIKE to be a kobold sorcerer. (Yay kobolds!) So much power packed into so small a bundle. I could amass power and then use it to pick off newbie adventurers who are expecting a kobold to be a walk-over. Plus the draconic feats would be the icing on the cake, when I can exchange spell-power to breath fire on those silly adventurers.

Good stuff, not literary mastery, but highly entertaining light reading.

Guardians of the Flame? Is it in that story that there's a one-armed rogue? I think Lightfingers was his name... Yeah, I do believe I've read it, although about 15 years ago. I don't remember much of it, but I do remember that I found it pretty good at the time. There's something magical about someone (or a group of people) being transported in a fantasy world while retaining all the knowledge from this world. It would be cool.

Ultradan.

In the first book there were two rogues, Walter who gave us his amusing Slovoski Laws and the other guy who only had one hand and died on the end of a spear.

As for race Elf...Class I would want to be would be monk/sorcerer. My friends say I would make a good ranger as I get along with animals well...BAAAAA

I'd want to be a halfelf (longer life than a human, but not too long), and either a druid or a cleric. I like to eat, so any class that can produce its own food wins a lot of points with me. Being able to turn into other creatures would be super cool as well, so I might lean towards the druid (although heroes feast is hard to pass up). At any rate it would be cool to worship a god that actually recognized my existence.

I would tend to agree. I couldnt get past the 2nd book of the second trilogy and have never even read his science fiction stuff. The first trilogy was great and i do hope they do make them into movies. So if anyone gets a chance, go out and buy the first trilogy.

Laughing out loud. That's a great line.

Such a very hard decision. I would go with either one of these:

Full Orc Werebear Barbarian, as it is my favorite char to play, or the MindFlayer Sorc, which even though i have yet to play one, I will eventualy.

I WOULD be a Drow Rogue/Sorcerer. Always a night person and more then a little shifty.

One of the planetouched, possibly an air genasi or a water genasi. The arrogance of these beings fits in with the arrogance that I have acquired over the years in mainframe software development. I would probably be a sorcerer armed with cone of cold and lightning bolt spells. If I had a Ring of Sustenance, then I would never need to leave my PC. Of course, after 28 years in the software development field, I am beginning to feel like a lich.

What I would be based on me right now is an unusually tall Dwarven inventor/tinkering/sculptor and I would cultivate a relationship with a cleric boyfriend (Dwarven Holy Water is ale after all)

Of course there is the other side of me that would be a ranger with druidic leanings as I really hate the city and love to camp in places that take at least an hours hard hike to get to because then no one else goes there

Oh and the bard/loremaster side of me cause the only reason I don't live in a place like that is that I can't carry enough books, instruments and things to tinker with ...

Um I think I have to multi class...

I had literally four things come to mind.

The first being that if I somehow got brought into the D&D world, I don't think I'd get to choose anything other then, "Run" or "Be eatten".

Second, I think becoming Celiwyn would be cool... but update her, I don't want to be a 3.0 elven ranger. I'd have to become 3.5.

Third, sappy I know, I'd want to become the heroine from Thanis' story so we could stick together (assuming we both go and he chooses his charater from that story...)

Forth... and coolest option. I would so become Amerasu! Half-fey(Gloria) Bard Cleric. Pretty, can fly and knows how to have fun. Not to mention can sing.

If some supernatural power came up to me, and was all like, "You have three seconds to pick six levels of whatever, and then I'm dumping you in Faerun." I'd probably blurt out "Panda!" or whatever was the last thing I saw on the side of a bus.

If he made it awakened and gave me levels of Abjurer, with Silent Spell and Still Spell, I probably wouldn't mind. If I could have Perform (Beatbox) as a class skill I'd be ecstatic. (Lah-Dee-Dah-Dee, we likes to party, we make lots of gold, we don't bother nobody).

Alot of people pick an arcane class "in order to get back." I'd pick something that makes money "to pay someone to make an item that lets me get back and forth." Mr. Greenwood has already established that Elminster goes back and forth as he pleases (usually determined by hunder pangs and various obeyings of thirst). So, if we're going to assume fantasy becoming real, we could assume there are already established routes back and forth. Likely someone would be using one of said routes to transplant us in the first place.

I would be the Bar keep, No one messes with the bar keep.

JStrong wrote:

Heh heh heh...not any barkeep *I've* ever had in my games. :D

Not fitting in at all with my icon (who merely happens to be my current most-fun NPC to annoy my Players with), I would be a half-celestial (half human) cleric of St. Cuthbert. This would allow me to beat the tar out of mean, law-breaking people all day and feel totally righteous doing it.

Additionally, this choice would allow me to heal and otherwise help people, and I would even eventually be able to raise people from the dead! I would be able to fly with my angel wings, and their mere existence would mean that people would automatically take me seriously whenever I deigned to dispense tidbits of wisdom.

I'd get darkvision right from the start, and I would gain bunches of bonus spell-like abilities as I advanced. For equipment, I would try to get some enchanted mithral chain to wear so I wouldn't get slowed down in my flying too much. Eventually, I would also try to acquire an adamantine holy mace, the better to bust things up with, including the melon heads of rogues, drow elves, demons, worshipers of Erythnul or Hextor, orcs, red dragons, and other agents of chaos. (I wouldn't spare those d1ck$ who worship Pholtus, either.)

Sczarni

human psion(shaper) with Psionic Body and Psionic Talent for almost all my feats.

would possibly take the "Artiste" psicrystal at some point.

my goal: to adventure as safely as possible until i can get the TK powers and Fabricate, Psionic.

after that, take my time and build my house/inn/bar/bookstore/whatever else i may want to have.

i mean, looking at something, thinking about HOW it fits together, and then it just happens?

yeah, i'll take one of that.

or warforged bard. cuz, that would be fun.

namaste'
the hamster

Liberty's Edge

I would be a human thief, definiately; as this is the easiest thing to learn and MS, HS and Climbing comes naturally to me...

Or I would become famous in the whole world as

TOM, THE WORST BARD ON EARTH!

Because singing is something which is almost alien to me! ;)

I would be a human commoner. But if I had to choose from adventuring classes, I would probably be a human ranger/bard (with very average stats, at best), because I have quite a bit of wilderness experience (many one to two week treks spanning hundreds of kilometres in the Canadian Rockies, multi-week treks in the Nepal Himalaya, other treks in Guyana and Borneo) and because I'm a decent writer, have an active imagination, and have also written/recorded a few songs (used to be in a band, but haven't played live in a decade). While I don't think I'm particularly charismatic, many people at work have told me they wished I was the Regional Director (instead of our current boss), so I guess some people do see me as a half-decent leader, which would go well with the bard's diplomatic aspect. I'd be human because that's what I know best (in Greyhawk, I'd probably be Oeridian), I'm not a particularly good craftsman (can't be a dwarf), and I think the elven lifespan is waaaaayyyy too long. I suppose I could be a halfling because I'm relatively short, and enjoy an easy, quiet life whenever I can...

Ninja (duh).

Thoth-Amon the Mindflayerian wrote:

Okay, the rules: You can't choose a God, Demon, Devil, or Dragon.

Thoth-Amon the Atlantian Mindflayerian

Solar Paladin although that butts up against the god restriction.

I think I'd be a human monk, or maybe a halfling cleric, but I'd like to be a halfling rouge (assuming that the gods are like DMs and my life would have a plot) Interesting how contradicting those are, huh? However, I just took an online survey and this is what it said:

You Are A:

True Neutral Half-Elf Thief

True Neutral characters are very rare. They believe that balance is the most important thing, and will not side with any other force. They will do whatever is necessary to preserve that balance, even if it means switching allegiances suddenly.

Half-Elves are a cross between a human and an elf. They are smaller, like their elven ancestors, but have a much shorter lifespan. They are sometimes looked down upon as half-breeds, but this is rare. They have both the curious drive of humans and the patience of elves.

Thieves are the most roguish of the classes. They are sneaky and nimble-fingered, and have skills with traps and locks. While not all use these skills for burglary that is a common occupation of this class.

Grand Lodge

uh, a half-orc ranger/rogue/bard living in Cormyr. Yeah I'm freaky like that.

I think in real life I'm equal to a moaning, underslept short and slim halfelf (I am quite fey IRL) with a couple of chaos monk levels and a maybe a dash of Archivist currently living in a large town outside the big city with a rather practical and level headed half dwarf/Illuskan human S.O. and a collection of cats/familiars. My alignment would be chaotic neutral/good depending on my mood ;) Would like to think I have a few ranks in perform: dancing/singing/sculpting/painting and a broad range of other skills (like gambling, bluff, sense motive and fortune telling) that would be no real use in a dungeon (well, a D&D dungeon anyway [Torture Garden in London is more my style] lol!)

If I could choose a race and class and place in a D&D world then I might go for N (good) avariel (winged elf) psionic planewalker with a incredibly beautiful magical longspear (like something out of the Jet Lee movie: Hero) currently living in Sigil, I'd often get myself regenerated (like Dr Who) into new forms and personas, travel the multiverse righting wrongs and verbally destroying evil do'ers and tyrannical regimes with my sassy-mouth tongue of ego/psyche crushing +5 (vorpal).

Probally.

Or maybe a plain old human commoner lv 1 with a single rank in b%+*!**@. ;)

It would have to be Dwarf, dispite being over 6ft tall and tetoatal. Why? Becase I refuse to luse my beard, Im facinated by geology, and I dont gladly suffer fools. (and I realy hate those damm mary-sue elves) I do seem to have there atribute mods though. I never get ill but Im no good with people.

As for class thats a tough one. Im facinated with, but no real good with machines, so while I'd like to say arteficer its unlikely. Ive got an uncanny knack for stealth, but Im so clumsy Im a danger to my self, so rogue is out. I know more about gods and mythology than Id care too, but Im also an atheist, so cleric is out. To be honest my intrests in enviromentalisim and hopes of finding a human / ecology balance probibly places me as a druid, though Id preffer Arteficer.

Elven wizard... the long life and power of magic. Although I usually play humans, lol. But my humans don't usually end up 100% human for long- I think I just have demented DM's!

Silver Crusade

Elf cleric (probably of Corellon Larethian, but I'm not picky). Everyone tries to keep the cleric alive, after all.

And I sure wouldn't be a fool adventurer unless I had to be. You may have 80hp, but each 5 point wolf bite hurts like hell.

I've always thought it would be cool to heal people, but I don't have the stomach for RL internal medicine. If I could just cast a spell, and the wounds would close... that would make you feel good when you go to bed at night (scratch that... when you take your 4 hours of trance...)

If it was just me (which is likely, considering the concept tossed out there) - A Human Expert (with ranks in Paper-pusher?).

If I had a choice, I'd be a Cleric. I've always wanted to KNOW without a question that there was a god and to be close enough to actually communicate and cause miracles to happen (which is what, if you really think about it, all Clerical spells ARE).

I also agree that I'd be putting a ton of feats in distance weapons, since I can't imagine being cut up, shredded, lashed, pounded and otherwise having pain caused to me would be fun in any way, shape or form.

All that being said, there's a test out there in the wilds of the internet that I took once that told me that I have the personality type that fits a "Smart" Paladin - meaning one who might survive to live longer than first level...

"Ho, there Orcish Horde! I challenge thee to a fair and honorable duel..." *spuck, spuck, spuck, glitch, thud* (as the arrows are let fly before the stupid Paladin can finish his sentence.

Syrinx

Okay, very easy in my case. I've been playing for about 3 years with my elven-ranger, Xiloscient. I've dabbed in other races, classes and so forth, but I always can't stand being away from my ranger. Multiple reasons: I love all the abilities (3.0/3.5 mix rules; more so 3.5), I love the facts that I can slam the crap out of an idiotic orge, or a powerfull wizard WHILE doing some light healing on companions, I love the forest and how a ranger would worship/survive/assist nature, but I think most of all I LOVE how I can be very sneaky!!!!!

Just saw this thread, figured I'd add my bit.

Human, Elf or half-elf for race. People tend to say I have something elvish about me, or picture me as an elf if they haven't seen me before, stuff like that.

Class: either Arcane Trickster or Mystic Theurg (?). Something mystic, I used to know the official title. :oP

Thri-Kreen ninja well because i would never need sleep i have an exoskeleton and i can jump and do acrobatics like you wouldnt believe not to mention they live long.

Hmmm... this is a thought provoking thread I say that much.

And I have way too many ideas on who or what I'd be in a D&D world.

In Eberron I think I'd be one of three possibilities:
A shifter fighter (no PrC's just fighter levels 1 through 20.)

A changeling druid/master of many forms/warshaper (I think it'd be very, very cool. So cool in fact my high-level Eberron group will be facing one as an opponent in their next adventure.)

Or a changeling wizard/recaster/master transmorgrifist (again I just think this would be particularly cool and inventive. I could alter my magic and myself. Oh by the way, I would do the substitution levels for changeling wizards from Races of Eberron as well.)

Forgotten Realms:
Well my favorite non-human race from Faerun are the Saurials. And I think I'd either be a horn-head saurial wizard, or perhaps a finhead saurial ranger.

Although a human wizard/cleric/mystic theurge of Mystra sounds like it'd be a lot of fun.

Greyhawk:
I was having a lot of fun playing a halfling ftr/clr (and might have been leaning toward halfling outrider PrC.)

Too many ideas, too many choices. :P

Nomme. I'd be a monk/bard with a few levels a piece. I can beat a man up fluffy like an omlette then croon until he tearily forgives me my transgression. It's a weird, uncomfortable interplay but it happens almost every other Tuesday. Oddest thing, that.

Can I be a gelatinous cube?

Let's see,

Based on personality I'd have to go with human paladin. Boring I know, but my friends would tell you that it fits me very well.

What I would be: dwarven sorcerer 2. In real life, I'm pretty un-optimized.

What I would want to be: shifter scout/barbarian/urban soul in Sharn.

What i would be as me is probably a human bard , since i sing a fair bit and not too badly im told and well im human.

What i would like to be is an Elvan High mage, the thought of spending many years learning powerful magics and not realising years have passed appeals to me. Being able to help those in need with my skills and powers also gives me my feeling of worth both very important things in life.

Marin

warforged either fighter/warforged juggernaut/psion with adamantine body feat so that way i can survive just about any thing and i get to blow stuff up.

or maybe an awakened dire weasel with levels of rogue and sorcerer
