Rise of the Machines?

I just wanted to inquire as to whether there was any chance of the 'sheen and machine mages being updated to 3.5? I was also wondering if an article for steam and clockwork tech would have any chance, the psuedo-magic of most systems of D&D tech irk my groups sensibilities. Thanks.

That sounds interesting. For clockwork tech, you might want to check on Dungeon #126 for "The Clockwork Fortress" by Wolfgang Baur. It is very good, in my opinion. Just curious, but where did the 'sheen (?) and machine mages appear? What about steam and clockwork tech?

as i had mentioned elsewhere, v3.0 sheens are available on the Creature Catalog site.

Totally! Right on! We need some tinkery rules for tinker gnomes and Clerics Gond. Suggest feats akin to the item creation feats, perhaps invention creation feats?

don't suppose i could get a link to this creature catalog site? as I’ve never heard of it before.

(man I hate my first post to be all about begging like this)

Pleased to meet you, Walkerhound.

We're always begging on this site. Really.

It's true. The Jade knows it and he/she has been here for a long time (or so I've heard), and I know it and I've been here for two weeks.

It is the simple truth of the Paizo Boards.

Anyways, ditto on the machine mages and co. We wants it!

It's over at ENWorld at http://www.enworld.org/cc/, but has its own section.

And I'm writing a clockwork adventure called "Steam & Brass" for a small audience of patrons, complete with a steam golem, new constructs, a gear priest, you name it. It's part of the Open Design project.

Because it has turned into a rather big module, only the people who donate will get a copy. But it might be just your sort of thing.

Wolfgang,

Will it be set in Greyhawk, like much of your other work? (Please say yes!)

hay thanks for the link

you know i had forgotten about that open design thing (truthfully i only kind of sorta rember it now ;). so $25 to get your place at the table hummmm. let me ask ya at this point do you foresee continuing with this idea, in other words are there going to be more open design projects in the future?

Yes and no.

Alas, I cannot afford the license fees for the Greyhawk name. So instead it is set in Freistadt ("The Free City"), located near a deep lake with access to river trade routes. It is at the center of a large, semi-European continent.

So yes, Greyhawk with the serial numbers filed off, and a few new twists. The tone and style are like much of my other work, and adapting it to Greyhawk requires replacing one city name with another.

It also maps extremely well to the Iron Kingdoms setting.

I sure hope so, although I did double the work for half the money on "Steam & Brass". There are several options for the next project, but it won't start till 2007, most likely. I have a "Savage Tide" adventure to write first that I'm pretty excited about. 18th level is a lot of fun to design for.

I'll be doing a poll soon asking whether Open Design patrons would prefer a follow-up adventure, a new adventure, setting material, or a sourcebook.

Mearls had updated the sheens to third edition for the Dragon Compendium. Alas, we had to cut them for time and space reasons (or should I say space-time?), but the work is already done for them. IF we ever get the opportunity to do DCII (and boy do I hope we do!) we might just put them in. :)

(And please do note the "might" there.)

Neat! :D

I know its probably not a very popular request (because most fantasy role-players tend to abhor the idea of anything remotely sci-fi in D&D) but I for one would really enjoy an updated article on the sheen (not Charlie) and how to incorporate them into the current settings, deities attached to them and planes of origin.

It might help them become excepted by more gamers if the sheen were re-vamped with a more archaic makeover and looked less like something from the movie Virus or the sentinels from The Matrix, something still techno fantasy in art style but adopting a more medieval looking form of cyberpunk and not necessarily steampunk either.

...

I second that, especially since the Steam & Brass thing mentioned above is unavailable to all but the orignal participants (of which I am not).

You might check out The Siege of Durgam's Folly by Mike Mearls through Necromancer Games
