Hey, public service post and questions for Erik. The Twilight Monastery has been mentioned long before by our intrepid editor, in the old Oerth Journal "Baklunish Delights" articles:
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~monax002/Council/OJ3/delights.html
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~monax002/Council/OJ3/delights2.html
I did a monk variant for 2e that came up with specific martial arts schools for the Baklunish monks:
http://www.mindspring.com/~ernestm/monk/shatain.html
I've been thinking about a more standard-3.5 variant monk version for the two.
Anyway, if Erik reads this - how much of the new description is just alteration and how much is based on this original writeup but with "as the years pass" updates? Any info for us old canonistas is welcome.
I did an altered writeup to tie in the new writeup with the old, mainly because before Erik leaked the new one on the messageboards I gave the party monk's player a pointer to the old articles. Here's the gist of my mods if anyone wants 'em:
The temple is Baklunish, and consists of Twilight Song (El'malel) nuns and Falling Hail (Da'shon) monks. The nuns and their leader pretty much run the Twilight Monastery, and are dedicated to the teachings of Xan Yae, the Mistress of Perfection. The monks are followers of Zuoken's teachings and single-mindedly practice Da'shon. The Censer of Symmetry, installed by the mage Warnes Starcoat at the time of the Greyhawk Wars, is used to seek for signs of Zuoken (see Baklunish Delights part 2 for more). Your order is led by Master Li Hon, who actually spends most of his time other places engaged in politics etc. Izenfen is technically second in charge but she and her nuns run the monastery in his absence and she's the one who came up with the kalamanthis sale idea. All the "stealth assassins" were Twilight Song (though the populace of Diamond Lake doesn't know this, as they were all masked), and you think that they sometimes practice more than martial arts - weird mind powers and the like.

Alternatively, could the Twilight Monastery also perhaps be dedicated to Celestian, an old Oeridian deity?

It could, but Xan Yae is a better fit--after all, she is the "Mistress of Twilight" or whatever, & has long been associated with monks.
Celestian would work better with the cult that used to inhabit the old observatory.
