The store has been live for a few weeks now. What do you guys think?

Like it? Hate it? Got a reason?

We're adding little fixes and tweaks and features all the time, but I'd love to hear what you guys would like out of the store now and in the future.

BTW, here's something we didn't expect.

Our most popular new products right now are...
Nope, not core D&D books.
Nope, not the latest TCGs.
Plush toys.

Yes, really.

Who knew?

with items like the Plush Cthulhu Santa did you really expect something else?

I like the store. I like the large selection of products. Naviagation isn't too bad either. I really like how you group certain items, like all issues from the adventure path series in Dungeon. That's something that makes looking for products a lot easier.

However, I dont expect to buy anything from the store any time soon. I think my LGS has pretty much everything I need. Now if I ever want anything they don't have, I'll be sure to look you over.

Out of curiosity, how do you manage inventory? I assume you don't stock every item on sale. So how does it work?

Glad to hear you have a good LGS. Our primary goal is to serve folks without one, or who can't find what they're looking for there. So check us out when that happens. 8 )

We've got some of Santa's elves chained up in the basement cranking out product as we need it.

I love the stuff on Toyvault.com, but last I checked, they don't sell form their site. I've found a couple places that aren't too far away that carry a few of their things, but not much. I'd love to get some more of the Toyvault stuff at some point.

You should put a couple of those in the store. That's the one thing my LGS is missing: a bunch of Santa's elves. I know I'd buy them :-) They're really usefull too if you need to have some house cleaning or toe-nail clipping done.

I like the store and I certainly like the variety. Unfortunately, my LGS, which is two hours away, doesn't have the vast array of materials you offer. HOWEVER, one thing that's missing that I REALLY REALLY REALLY (um... REALLY) want to see you sell is slipcases for your Dragon and Dungeon magazines. PLEASE!

Just as an afterthought, perhaps Paizo could do another web-survey to assess interest in this. Otherwise, perhaps you could do pre-orders. I imagine that Paizo has some hesitation to offer such a product in the absence of some sense of security that it'll sell enough to turn a profit. I've posted on Dragon and Dungeon message boards seeking input. All the input I've received is positive, but note that not a lot of people are commenting.

In the end, what needs to be done for Paizo to decide that providing slipcases is a good business decision? How can I help?

It is likely that we will indeed do something like you suggest on the website to gauge support for this idea. However, it might be a month or two before that happens - the web team is awfully busy enhancing the store experience right now.

I really like the store. Its really cool that Paizo have decided to become the one stop shop. For example, I really wanted to get some Rackham miniatures, but their website, being in French, was totally undechirable to me. But now I can get them off this site. Fantastic!

I do have one or two suggestions tho. A lil help section saying how much postage would be (unless its fixed, but that should be explained too). Furthermore,I've ordered two subscriptions (Dungeon and Dragon) and three back issues of Dragon. But there nothing telling me if any of its been dispatched. I've gotten invoices, but does that means its dispatched? A lil page like the ones on Amazon would be cool, you know where they show dispatch dates, what was dispatched and when they expect delivery, just so you can keep up with things.

*End Rant* :)

I'd like it more if it was working today... it's b0rked in Opera and IE - specifically, it's not possible to view the cart, so it's a bit difficult to check out and buy the stuff I crave.

I could have guessed that - not an item most gaming stores are willing to carry in stock, except maybe during the holidays. Your big sellers are always going to be the things people don't go to their local gaming store for, since most people value the community their FLGS provides. A lot of gaming stores also don't carry miniatures, so I wouldn't be surprised if those sell well too.

The store seems good, I'm still browsing around to see all the stuff! It sometimes seems to load a bit slow, though the paizo messageboards are worse.

I've been thinking about buying a battlemap, so I was browsing your selection. However, there is no indication of the size of the mat. It gives the scale of the squares/hexes, but not the length/width of the map.

Thanks,

Steve

We are still working on product descriptions and images.

As it mentions on the product pages, just email webmaster@paizo.com for the particular product you have questions about and we can work on getting better descriptions from the manufacturer.

Something you guys might want to sell is those Tac-tiles battle map tile thingies. Saw someone using them at a Con but was never able to find them anywhere. Looked really cool.

www.bc-products.net is the site where you can get the tact-tiles. One of my players bought me a box of them late last year and I think they're the best thing to happen to roleplaying games since the invention of the d20.

I had to spend my birthday money on knitting stuff this year. Maybe soon I can buy t-shirts and cool plush madness.

I think an Amazon-type reviews section would be great too. My local store has an OK section but mostly supports comics and card games (which is fine BTW). So, I'm not familiar with some stuff and would like to get someone else's input. Thanks.

Oh, sorry to be rude....

The store kicks arse. One stop shopping.

Hi,
I think it is a major problem that you cannot see what the shipping expenses are going to be when shipping abroad! Because that can really decide whether to trade or not.
One other thing of importance, is to know whether you charge the toll at your site or if you are shipping without charging it. The problem when byuing from amazon US these day is that they no longer charge the toll (25%) and when the danish toll-system see that it is a package that I have bought outside Europa they apply that of course. BUT, they also charge around +10$ in administration fee for each package!! So this is something you should really look into if you expect returning european customers.
Have a pleasent weekend,
Stegger

We added that feature a while back - you can post reviews of any product in the store. The most recent reviews are also highlighted on the lower left of the front page.

Shipping charges are calculated based on the specific items in your cart, and the address you've chosen to ship to, so there's no handy chart to show you. But just add the stuff to your cart and check out - you'll see the shipping cost before you commit to ordering.

Any customs duties or other taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. We know that international customs can be unpredictable.

Your site looks great. You have an excellent selection of products. My only nitpicks are that A) Star Fleet Battles supplements are categorized as RPGs, and B) The site has been painfully slow the few times I've browsed it. Otherwise, looking good!

Oh, and the avatars are really cute. :)

Thanks for the feedback!

Regarding your point A, products were initially placed into the store by computer, based on limited and occasionally incorrect data. Humans are continuously refining this stuff - if you see things out of place, drop a note to webmaster@paizo.com, and we'll fix it up when we get a moment.

Regarding point B, the web team is also doing what they can to tweak website responsiveness. In fact, they rolled out new code yesterday that has made a noticable difference, I think, and it should only get faster from here.

-Vic.
.

First, we added some functionality to allow you to get shipping and handling on the shopping cart page.

To get it to show up, click "Proceed to Checkout" and select or create your shipping address.

That will take you to the Payment Method page. You don't need to enter a payment method to see the shipping any more. Just click on either "Shopping Cart" link at the top of the page and it will take you back to the cart with the shipping and handling visible.

Hurray! : )

Regarding response time and uptime, this is our highest priority and we are following a number of leads.

The good news: When the site is running well, it's speedelicious!

The bad news: The site still has bad days. And the first page you go to commonly seems to take 5 or 10 seconds too long.

Rest assured, we will eventually nip this in the bud.

I've ordered several times from the store so far (I don't own a car, which can make shopping a pain). Good selection and everything has gone smoothly so far. Kudos!

It's so nice to get positive feedback. : )

I'm pretty happy myself with how smoothly it has gone, even in these first few months. And we're making significant improvements almost every week, which is very satisfying, especially for those of us directly working on the site.

So, shop away everyone!

Here to serve y'all,

It's nice. I came. I saw. I used my mastercard.

(Hmm probably better in the original Latin I suppose.)

I found a mini that I haven't seen in over 10 years, and since I originally found it in a bargain bin I didn't know the maker of the mini. (It's the elvin throne from mega mineatures.)

So the final analysis is I like it. Nice selection. And I will probably be buying the plush toys for my various nieces before next Christmas.

I just ordered and received some spindle dice and Dundjinni mapping software. The store is easy to peruse, the transaction went smoothly, and I got the package in good time. I love ordering D&D stuff - it's like a mini geek Christmas for me. One suggestion ... the site said my stuff was shipped UPS ground, I believe. If a package is shipped by a trackable method, it would be nice to have a link to track it.

I'm off to eye up some Bone Dice and a plush Ixachyatl.

Funny you should mention this. We're actually in the process of improving our integration with UPS right now. Look for improved package tracking coming soon.

I'm hoping that sometime in the near future, paypal will be added to the payment options, since I don't currently have credit cards.

I have to go the much slower method of transfering from my bank account to paypal, but I find it so much easier for web transactions since it's already converted to appropriate currency, etc.

But other than that, I'm very impressed with the selection of materials and would love to throw some money at you for them <grin>

We took Paypal back in the old pre-store days, and it didn't get used so much, so we dropped it. Yours is the first request for PayPal I've heard of late - anybody else out there?

-Vic.

Well, I would be quite interested in the PayPal option, too. Credit cards aren't that common in Germany (at least I don't know anyone who owns one) and PayPal would finally enable me to subscribe to Dragon... (becaue I don't like the idea of mail order) :)

My concern is with the cost of shipping. I live a rather long way away (~45min drive) from my FLGS (okay, its not so "Local") and I thought I could save some money (gas money, that is) by ordering Dungeon 121 from your online store. When I found out that the shipping was equal to the cover price of the magazine my jaw hit the floor. $7 US to ship a magazine to Montreal? Why so high? The net result is that I would pay ~$20CAN for one issue of Dungeon, while my FLGS sells it for $10CAN (plus somewhere near $5+ for gas - yes gas is that expensive here).

I haven't ventured to see what the shipping is on a subscription (an option I was considering) but now I hesitate. Does a subscription come with a $7US/issue shipping cost? If so, that's quite prohibitive for me.

Thanks,
Greg

Ya, shipping one small package to Canada is comparatively expensive for us and may not make sense for you unless you are ordering several items. We are always exploring better and more cost effective means of shipping, and have made large strides in US shipping. Hopefully, the progress will continue over into Canadian shipping prices at some point.

There is no shipping charge on a subscription. The cost of delivery is built into the Canadian subscription price.

Thanks for the rapid response! Ok, I'll have to rethink the subscription again ... :)

Ya, shipping internationally is not cheap.

We will continue to examine opportunities to offer more options.

There are references to being able to create a wishlist for products in your store, but I can't find any buttons or any other means to actually add a product to the list.

Please let me know how to add products to the wishlist.

Thanks!

There is currently no wishlist feature on the site. We used to have a "product interest list", but now that we can take pre-orders, we no longer need it.

It's fairly safe to say that a wishlist will be added to the site functionality at some point before September. It's already on our (very long) list of upcoming site projects.

As someone living in England and who has made their first small (literally $12 !) order, I think the shipping charges are okay - I ordered a plush Conker (from the Xbox game) because I know that getting one of these will be nigh on impossible thanks to the near total disinterest of most stores here in England in carrying gaming merchandise, and those that do sure as hell charge for it. Cheapest I can get this item preordered here in the UK is £40 (that's like $90), yet even with shipping from this site is has cost me just under $23 (about £12), so no complaints here!

From what I have seen the USPS international charges are very good, here in England the postal charges are much higher and the service much worse, I have had Global Priority parcels that have been posted in the US on the same day as a first class parcel here in the UK (which should arrive next business day) beat the first class one on many occasions! Though maybe that just shows how bad out mail service here is!

Well I placed my order on May 25, 2005 and am still awaiting it with pin and needles(really got to vaccum my bedroom floor here :} ) I hope it arrives soon because my other orders from else that were made the same day by U.S. Snail mail vs. web ordering here have alreay arrived this past Monday. Must be the size. I may have herniated an employee. :}
