What are the rules for drinking alchohol?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Just started a game in the new 3.5 ed., and as expected, the players have been doing their best to stump me.
One of my friends has decided to play a drunken barbarian who flies into a rage if he is refused alchohol. I've looked around a bit to find rules governing drinking, addiction and their respective effects, but not finding anything really substantive, I've created my own rules.
Basically, a PC has a threshold value determined by race, fortitude, and the greater fortitude feat. Once the halfway point of this value is reached the PC begins feeling the effects. It goes on from there to adding penalties with dangers of becoming sick, passing out, getting alchohol poisoning, falling into an alchohol induced coma and even death.
Anyone have some other resources they can point me to?

Thanks much,
Geoff

Tournaments, Fairs and Taverns has alchohol rules in it.

The 3.0 Arms and Equipment guide also had a good set of rules, with a series of Fort checks, DC increasing with consumption, dex and wisdom loss are the result. Simple, basic, and quite effective. Wis goes to 0 pass out, Dex to 0 fall down.

I like it!

I should try that sometime! And the penaltys are great! What about taking a sip of wine at a meal? Would (should) that count?
