The Lords of Elemental Evil
by Kevin Baase and Eric Jansing
The Princes of Elemental Evil: Cryonax, Imix, Ogrémoch, Olhydra, and Yan C Bin are back and ready to freeze, burn, crush, drown, and blow your players away. Here is a sample, giving insight into the Evil Elemental Prince of Earth.
Ogrémoch
The Lord of Evil Earth Creatures, Ogrémoch lives atop a great mesa, high above a rocky plain on the Elemental Plane of Earth. This plateau, upon which his immense fortress Stonemire rests, is inside a vast, intensely hot cavern—a fact not readily apparent even when viewed from a distance. Some say Ogrémoch buried countless foes and challengers inside his mesa over the years, keeping some alive to tap into the power of their spirits. Ogrémoch spends little time at home, though, as he usually wanders the elemental Plane of Earth looking for creatures to bend to his will or destroy.
Rigidity marks Ogrémoch's personality. He is callously practical, industrious, and prudent. His dispassionate nature does not mask his evil, though, and all creatures of earth fear him. Although few claim to have actually encountered him, Ogrémoch's evil taint can be felt wherever he walks.
Ogrémoch's symbol is an equilateral triangle with short hash marks through each leg.
Ogrémoch stands 10 feet tall and weighs 4,500 pounds.
Paraelemental Paragons
by Eric Jansing
Monoliths of ice, magma, ooze, and smoke dwell in the boundaries between the planes, waiting with their lesser brood to storm your campaign world. The following sample encounters are just some of the possibilities.
Sample Encounters
Paraelement creatures fill roles similar to their Material Plane counterparts, roaming the lands between the elemental planes they inhabit. Encounters with these creatures become common as the borders between the planes draw close.
Squid Cave (EL 11): An old and particularly angry ice element giant squid dwells within a submerged cave in a titanic iceberg floating on the border between the Elemental Planes of Air and Water. The beast roams from its lair only occasionally but when it does so all of the nearby creatures, including a group of local merfolk, flee from its terrible wrath.
Lava Charger (EL 6): The fiery mountain passes are full of creatures belligerent to outsiders. The magma element rhinoceros is one such creature, and any who draw near it are likely to face its deadly charge.
Muck Tyrant (EL 10): The muck-filled caves and plains that make up the border between the Elemental Planes of Earth and Water are home to a wide variety of creatures. One such beast is known only as the Muck Tyrant, an ooze element behir that dominates a wide swath of territory and who allows passage only to those who pay it fealty.
Curious Wisp (EL 9): A smoke element dragonne prowls the region between the Elemental Planes of Air and Fire, curious about any creatures not native to the area. Those who pass underneath its endless patrols are likely to draw its attention, causing it to follow them a bit from above. If the characters attempt to communicate with the creature it gladly lands to chat with them. Should they ignore it, the creature grows angry and attacks.
Inner Planar Hazards
by Chad Dickow and Duncan Hanon
Everyone knows the plane of fire is not the safest place to travel, but few are prepared for the dangers lurking on the other elemental planes, including razorgrit storms, mineral mites, amber barnacles, and worse. Here is a sample from the elemental plane of fire.
Ash Willow
This willow tree has dark red bark and at full height can reach 120 feet tall. Ash willows thrive on heat and often grow in pools of lava, growing several feet a year and quickly dominating an area. Ash willows continually smolder and rain ash all around them, eventually creating a unique ashen landscape. One tree can create 1 pound of ash each day for every 10 feet of its height. Fast-growing roots extend runners that spawn 1d3 new trees each month. The trees spread within lava pools and along rivers of lava, often changing highly volatile areas into calm, slow-burning forests covered with ash.
Treat areas in which ash willows grow as areas filled with snow for purposes of visibility.

Demonomicon of Iggwilv: Dagon
by James Jacobs
Hear the song of the oracle of the Abyss. The ancient tentacles of Dagon, the Prince of the Depths, weave his alien will beneath the waves of innumerable worlds, tempting the foolish and depraved with the darkest secrets of all demonkind.
Dagon's Cult
Along the coastlines of the world's nations, a far more insidious brand of Dagon cult festers. These are cults of humanoids who have been infiltrated by small bands of Dagon-worshiping kuo-toa, infected with promises that Dagon will protect them in ways their other deities cannot. The kuo-toa target regions of fading prosperity, desperation, and rural ignorance, rewarding allegiances with gold and abundantly fine fishing and punishing resistance with genocidal raids upon entire villages and towns. Settlements that fall to Dagon's influence become insular, shun outsiders, and often take to mixing with the fish-folk of the deep. The young born of these blasphemous unions seem normal at first but quickly deform into kuo-toa as they age, eventually a-bandoning their lives on land to join their brethren in the sea. These cults rarely have the energy or drive to expand their influence to neighboring towns, and typically, a town that has secretly fallen to Dagon in this way becomes shunned in turn; neighbors turn their backs on the folk there, and an attitude of "they're not hurting us so we won't hurt them" prospers. What plans Dagon may eventually have for these ever-growing pockets of the faithful are unknown, but they cannot bode well.

The Hordelands
by Edward Bonny, Brian Cortijo, and Laszlo Koller
Unleash one of the greatest threats ever to rage across the Forgotten Realms: The Horde. From the bleak steppes of the Endless Wastes to the barbarian city of Kourmira, discover the history, treasures, creatures, and ways of war of the brutal Hordelands. Here is a sample.
The Taangan and the Tuigan
Prior to the rise of Yamun Khahan, the barbarians of the Endless Waste called the land they inhabited the "Taan," and themselves the "Taangan" (literally, "people of the Taan"). The horselords of the steppes belonged to small, independent clans, each of which was part of a larger, regional tribe: Commani, Dalat, Fankiang, Gur, Guychiang, Igidujin, Kahghun, Khassidi, Naican, Oigur, Pazru ki, T'aghur, Tsu-tsu, Tuigan, and Zamogedi. Each nomadic clan, or ordu (consisting of three or four villages known as obogh) was ruled by a hereditary khan.
Yamun became khan of the Hoekun clan by killing his father, the previous khan. With the help of allies from the Naican tribe, Yamun was able to conquer, subdue, or ally with the other ordu of the Tuigan, and was proclaimed khahan. Through war and intimidation, Yamun eventually united all the remaining tribes of the steppes beneath his banner, and proclaimed himself Emperor of All Peoples.
Since the khahan's death, through both conquest and poor translation, the name "Tuigan" has been adopted to apply not merely to Yamun's tribe, but all those he came to rule. To the eyes of the outside world, all of the barbarians of the steppes are Tuigan, no matter what clan or tribe they call themselves.
This article includes a large web enhancement, giving you more details about the people of the Hordelands, their various settlements, and magic items. The web enhancement will be available on or around October 17th, 2006.

GLAMOUR COSTUME
Illusion (Glamer)
Level: Clr 1, Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 hour/level (D) (see below)
This spell functions like disguise self, except you can only change the appearance of your clothing (including weapons, armor, and equipment) and make superficial changes to your own appearance. For example, you could make ragged traveler's gear look like a beautiful gown or a cleric's vestments. Superficial changes to your appearance include removing or adding beauty marks and signs of aging, along with any coloration change that could be accomplished with make-up (lips, cheeks, hair, and so on). You are still recognizable as you and you cannot use the spell to create a true disguise (although you could change the appearance of your clothing to include a hood or mask to conceal your features).
Once per hour as a standard action, you can change your appearance according to the above guidelines, but doing so reduces the duration by 1 hour for each change.
Magical Pollution
by Hal MacLean
Some arcane effects even dispel magic can't clean up. Included in this article are new templates, magical locations, and hazards such as the following.
SHADOW NIGHTMARES (CR 3)
Those who deal with the dark and mysterious forces of the Plane of Shadow don't do so without side effects. Gradually, overuse of such magic allows formless shadow essence to slip the bonds of worlds, weakening the barrier between the Material Plane and the dark transitive plane. While few notice the plane's subtle touch during daylight hours, at night, when the mind is open to outside influences, the shapeless spirits of the Plane of Shadows intrude upon mortal dreams.
Shadow nightmares generally manifest in an area where creatures from the Plane of Shadow, frequent travelers to that place, or shadow casters (see the Tome of Magic) dwell. These dreams might only affect creatures within a few dozen feet of a particular area or, in the case of more powerful or frequently used shadow magic, the span of miles. Any creature that falls asleep in this area cannot rest, waking the next morning fatigued and unable to regain arcane spells that day, the creature's mind becomes vulnerable to the influence of the Plane of Shadow, taking a –2 penalty on all saves made against spells with the shadow descriptor and the special abilities of creatures native to the Plane of Shadow for the next 24 hours. Creatures that sleep in an area of magical light, such as that lit by a light or continual flame spell are unaffected by shadow nightmares.
Creatures of Corruption
by Jake Manley
Discover what is spawned when magic goes awry. Three new horrible monsters to plague your PCs, including the Alchemical Undead, the Corrupted Creature template, and the toxic ooze. Here is a sample encounter.
TOXIC OOZE
Sewer Slime (CR 7): The sewers underneath most cities are vast labyrinthine complexes of twisting tunnels and fetid pools of waste and runoff. Workers are often paid to maintain and expand these sewers to ensure the sanitary conditions of the streets above. Finding such workers has become incredibly difficult in light of recent events. Four sewer workers have gone missing over the past few weeks, leaving behind no sign. The rest of the workers refuse to go back to their job until the danger is abated. What no one knows is that a lone toxic ooze has formed in the sewers from the waste of a failed attempt to create a flesh golem. It has since consumed a great deal of material, including the four missing workers, and has split into four different oozes, each prowling the depths. Characters who go below to investigate the problem might find that the infestation is harder to clear than first expected. If even one ooze is allowed to live, the problem will return again after a time.
Legacies of the Ancients

More planetouched races inhabit the Forgotten Realms than just aasimar, tieflings, and the elemental genasi. Four new planar-blooded races: the azerblood, celadrin, d'hin'ni, and worghest.
