Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® San Antonio opened its doors in 1996 as a Excalibur Comics & Video and strove to fill a gap in the local market with a diverse selection of independent, non-traditional comics and graphic novels in addition to the mainstream publications. Exaclibur Comics & Video also helped open the then-emerging anime/manga markets by carrying a wide range of translated and imported tankubon (manga graphic novels) and by renting anime that was released commercially in the US.
Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® bought Exaclibur Comics & Video in 2002, and with a new sign and an incredible expansion of the store’s gaming section, the San Antonio Lair was born!
Over the years Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy® San Antonio has striven to give back to the community, either through promotions with groups such as the San Antonio Food Bank and Blue Santa or by holding signings with diverse talents ranging from rock icon Glenn Danzig to horror novelist Gabrielle Faust and comics luminaries Warren Ellis, Gail Simone, Chris Roberson, Matthew Sturges and Kristian Donaldson (and many others).
We’ve also promoted local talent such as comic writer/artist Scott Zirkel and fantasy novelist Eric Dryer Smith and continue to look for new, local talent to put on our shelves!
