Wow! I'd love to know what level 1-3 adventure GMs would run as a lead in?
The players' guide PDF will have some suggestions, but Junkers' Delight or some low level Starfinder Society scenarios are always a great place to start! You can also just start at level 3, I won't tell. ;)

This is the only reason I would return to Starfinder. It’s been hard to find a RPG Mecha vs Kaiju game out there. Mecha & Monsters is an easy system but lacks luster for the character side. And that other company that has Pacific Rim is just ok. I hope there are addition expansions to Mechageddon, maybe even hybrid Mechakaiju with pilots.

Evil Genius Games, they publish Everyday Heroes. They have Pacifc Rim and Kong IPs.

I got the adventure for Kong for Christmas! Have not looked over it yet.

If it helps, I have it on good authority that one of the Mechageddon! authors was also an author on the upcoming Pacific Rim AP that was part of Evil Genius' Legendary kickstarter with the Kong AP.

Is the page count off? The picture makes it look thicker than Scoured Stars Adventure Path but says it's only 184 pages when the Scoured Stars is 256 pages. It also cost $5 more than Scoured Stars. I'm wondering if the page count is supposed to be 284 not 184.
Whatever the page count I'm still excited to get this.
Driftbourne |
I was also thinking they might be closer in size because they both cover 15 levels of play but Scoured Stars is a collection of 12 scenarios and Mechageddon is more likely what would have been a 3-part AP. The 184-page count fits the new pricing too so is likely correct. So looks like we might be in for some fast pace leveling up.

Hi! Yes, the page count is correct. Mechageddon! will be moving at a faster pace and use a milestone leveling system like Scoured Stars (however, you could choose to calculate XP normally for your game if that's your group's preference). We wanted to experiment a bit with our first hardcover adventures.
But, experiments are pointless without collecting and analyzing data.
I hope when y'all get a chance to check the book out in a few months, you let us know what you think. Did you enjoy milestone leveling? Do you think the pacing is perfect, or maybe too fast? Do you like the customization and extra content options, or do you need more? Did you make characters that started at level 3, or use existing characters you've played in Starfinder Society or some other campaign? Did the GM create some encounters to level everyone up as a prologue?
Anyway, I can't wait to share Mechageddon! with you SOON. It's my favorite thing I've ever worked on. The team has created an epic story for you and your friends to star in, with plenty of ways built in for you to make it *yours.* I can't wait to hear about what everyone does with it.

My party of all precogs thought you were going to say that so we ran the adventure prerelease and finished it last night. One thing they liked with the quicker pace of leveling up in Mech adventure lets you upgrade your mech to deal with upcome challenges faster. Although most of the party thought the extra content options were great, the shirren in the party wouldn't shut up about wanting more options.

Milestone levelling system doesn't go well with Starfinder, and levelling is going very fast. I'm still not very convinced of the route that Starfinder is taking. I have practically every book that has ever come out, various supplements such as maps, pawns, and various adventure paths (that I DM'ed my players), but as soon as the second edition was announced, I stopped buying any Starfinder-related products. I thought about giving this book one last chance, but I guess I won't.

I hope you're not basing that on my imaginary party of all precogs, playing an adventure I have not read yet.
I've never used milestone leveling before playing Starfinder and PF2e and have never gone back. At least for me the only time I'd even consider using an XP system again is for an entirely open sandbox game.
I'm excited to see how fast leveling and milestone leveling are used in Mechageddon!, because upgrading your mech and equipment is largely level-based, so fast leveling could be a great way to have an arms race in the adventure.

That's why I was asking if they would include the necessary basic mech rules in this hardcover, or if I would be required to buy* that one too?
*Yes I'm aware most of those rules are somewhere on Archives of Nethys but it would be nice if they were also in the AP, you know? Personal preference. Or if they are required separately, to say that clearly in the blurb.

Got my pdf, and I am loving the lore and plot stuff. I was hoping for some mech-related or kaiju killing feats and/or class features, but while there's not anything along those lines, the articles in the back are still great, with tons of info that will help me run this campaign.
Also, as I was flipping through I noticed the number 13 popping up a few times, including the title of one of the major sections. Then I realized that this is the 13th Starfinder AP. I see you, Starfinder team.

For backmatter, we get:
* An article on New Valor, including a full-page map and a new creature companion (8 pages)
* A catalog of new mechs, including a starship to carry them (12 pages)
* New mech components (2 pages)
* An article on Daimalko's colossi, including some cultural info, three new varieties of colossus, and the new colossiborn PC species (6 pages; note; quite a lot of colossus lore is peppered throughout the AP, as you might expect)
* 3 new critters (3 pages)
* A deity article for the demon lord behind it all; saying who is a spoiler; suffice to say they've had a bit of a glow-up since the Pathfinder era (4 pages)
* Rules for the fiendblood corruption (3 pages)
* 4 side jobs (8 pages)

Mech combat battlemaps are scaled at 15 feet per square. We do get a full-page map of New Valor. (In fact, there's a lot of color commentary about New Valor that a GM could use to flesh out background details when running SFS 2-12: Colossus Heist.)
There are four Side Jobs:
Ocean Commotion (11th level), by Kate Baker
Dinosaur Hunt (13th level), by Mikko Kallio
The Elders' Secrets (15th level), by Anthony Dollinger
The first three Side Jobs take place off-world, during a stretch of the AP when the PCs are off on a promotional tour of sorts to drum up support for the war effort at home.
Each Side Job is assigned by a significant NPC in the main AP, runs two pages, and is based on a mech encounter. (The suggested adventure levels assume the PCs use their mechs.)

Thanks John!!
Are they all party (big) Mechs or do we get any indivigual Mech for each player action options?
Also are the extra mech rules, builds and such cool as well?
Starting to plan things out a bit for this, and VERY nice we have a large full page city map, perfect!!
Tom
Ps Yep another one, LOL
Are there any interior mech maps by chance as I really want to get that feel of being inside a mech!! Probably to much to ask but ya never know. And if not anyone know of any interior mech maps, doe'nt have to match perfectly some hopefully somewhat close at least??

Individual mechs.
Are there any interior mech maps
No. Don't think I've ever seen anything like that in the wild, either.
TRDG |
Thanks again sir, WOW single Mechs, I had always thought we would be doing the 1 big Mech combats but each having their own works as well.
Just 1 more day to go for some of us. Located a few "Big Mech" maps ya ya nothing on singles and not really needed then.
Are you planning to run this or be a player in this John?
Thanks
Tom

OK, the map PDF has some issues.......
Map page 1 Proving grounds does NOT have the Grid/NO GRID option
Map page 2 "X" same issue
Map page 3 "X" same issue
Map Pages 4 and 5 good to go
Map page 6 "X" same issue
Map page 7 "X" same issue
Map page 8 "X" same issue
Map Pages 9 through 17 good to go
Map page 18 "X" same issue
Map Pages 19, 20, 21, 22 good to go
Map page 23 "X" same issue
A VERY big deal if one is using a VTT so please fix this ASAP, and don't let it linger like you did with The Scoured Stars AP map PDF that is STILL NOT FIXED!!!
Thanks

Hi Tom! We should be uploading the updated Scoured Stars PDF soon, sorry about the delay! As for the map files in Mechageddon!, they are the same as many of our interactive maps: unfortunately, you cannot turn the grid on or off because it is a flat file and there is no layer available to "turn off". We apologize for any inconvenience that causes for setting up your game.
Thanks for playing and have a great time saving (or wrecking) Daimalko,
Jenny Jarzabski

One thing about Mechageddon! that intrigues me is the map scales are all over the place 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 ft per square. I had a feeling there would be larger-scale maps for Mechs, but I wasn't expecting this much diversity. Besides making for an interesting AP the different scale maps could work great to try out ranged combat for the SF2e playtest to see how different scale maps affect ranged combat. I imagine the larger-scale maps would be a boost to SF1e ranged combat as well.
