Sad to say its a real pain to even try to align the 3 maps from the first 3 modules of this. It started with the second module as no mater how I size the map and upload it to roll20 it just does'nt work.
The main culprit is the forest sections that many were drawn in a hex shape.......SIGH
Instead of a more organic style where one can just lay a hex grid over it and it works just fine with no weird off kilter hex shaped forest hex that is way off.
In the end I had to crop out small chunks of hex forest then pop them on the overlay map to get it correct.
Also of note the mountain ranges from map 1 to 2 and now 3 do not line up as well sadly.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks
Tom
PS
I have used both the separate PDF map and the main hex map in the adventure PDF and both get the same thing :(

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Not sure about rOLL20, but one of my players combined the first 2 maps.
I'm also still not sure if the map from book 3 is meant to directly abut the other two?
Anyway, here's a copy of the merged first two maps, does this help?

Thanks for that United Map! It's cool to see how Ron's and my maps merge!
Hmm

Thanks Yogo
I came close but the hex forest does'nt line up (when I overlay the hex grid) from map 1 to 2 then to 3 for me no matter what I do, as well as the mountains.
Map 3 goes below Map one but thats a crap shoot as well, I'll see if I can figure out how to get a pic up of my 3 maps "lined up as best I can......." in Roll20

Lets see if I can get this working
OK it works, not the best screen capture of my Rol20 game, and I'll try for some better close up pics when I have some extra time
But one can note on map 2 and especially 3 I had to resize those 2 maps for it to even come close to lining most anything up sadly.
all 3 maps were screen captured with thee same exact dimensions, then tried different ones for map 2 and 3 to get as close as I could. But in the end I had to stretch and compress maps 2 and 3 to get what I have now, so each map is different sized to to speak to match up (kind of) as best I could for each map as it goes onto the other.
SIGH

I can see your image. Not sure exactly what happened there, as I didn't create our overall map. But, it looks to me you need to move the eastern half down a hex, and the southern mountains should line up better (even if the first shifts a hex). I suspect the southern map needs to move about 3 hexes to the left, such that the right most mountain hex on the southern map lines up with the southernmost mountains on the western charter half.

Ya it was not the best capture, I'll pop some more in here one by one with closer shots
Hilary just click on my "XXX" in my post :)
I've shifted stuff around and got it a smidge better but its still off.
So 1st pic is map one the players see

Everything lines up and good to go
Now onto combining hex map 1 to 2

Now this is where the "fun" starts
Now the mountains at the bottom do not line up and if I stretch the map out then the Forest hex's up top are way out of wack, specifically because the forests are shaped like hexes..... not organic so it would'nt matter if the hex grid does not align to the forest, but they are sadly.
I've resized and done a million things and different sized map dimentions and this is the best I could get from the Separate map PDF, the regular PDF has way less resulution and the numbers anyone can see, though one can get rid of them with extra effort.
Now onto hex map 3 added below

Now I had to stretch map 2 down to get the mountains to even fit and that screws up the top tree hex lines, then the Hex forest is way off because again because the forest terrain is drawn in the shape of a hex instead or organically like 99.9 % of any other Paizo maps.
So now the mountains kind of match from the first map to the third, but still its very noticable, then the forest hexes in map 3 VERY noticable and way off center, the the mess in the East mid mountains between map 1, 2 and 3, but at least no named encounters there.
So if I shift any map or different dimentioned them its even way more off so this is what I have to setle with at the moment.
There are programs in Steam that can recreate map terrain. hexes and so forth so it looks like thats what I'll have to do for Part 3 as it is just to noticable. Mod 2 works good enough I think though
Basically the simple thing is if Paizo/Starfinder ever does any more hex maps, PLEASE for the love of god make the Terrain drawn NON HEX like please!!
Hope this helps a bit more people and maybe someone creative could try and fix the maps even.
Only other alternative is to take small chunks of the map and resize it all so everything fits and that is a huge amount of work involvrd there
Tom :(

Dang. Wish I'd seen this earlier. I've been messing with this, too. I'm STILL messing with it. I can't get it to play nice in Roll20, either. Usually messing with the edges (for squared maps) is enough to get it into place. Hexs maps? Not so much. I've complained (elsewhere) about their (meaning Roll20) hexes not being truly hexagonal, where starship combat is concerned, but that's a story for another time. (I just grab a random hi-res image of space or a nebula, and drop it in.) For an actual hex map, well, I'm sure you've encountered my problem, too. Anyway, here's where I'm at, with a grand unified map. This will probably vanish in the future, as it's shared from my OneDrive.
Grand Unified Map
(I/we took a few weeks off for the holidays, since most of my players are students, and went home for winter break, and my other group meets on Sundays - the day after big days.)

Its supposed to though as it is to attach from the South of the 2 previous maps (OR just from the first map I suspect or even a smaller area). Thinking this might need to be a partial map of the south though??
Guess we will find out if we get a hex map for mod 4 and see how that is to be lined up.
Tom :)

Sorry, no more hex maps in books 4 or 5.
Plaustov is south of the PC charter, but I don't think anything explicitly says exactly to the south, or gives guidance for where the maps meet. It's just an assumption. There could be other terrain in between, there might not be.
