Cleric spells clarification

Rules Questions

Hi Guys,

Cleric spells are confusing me. I have two main questions.

I have a Level 2 cleric who has 19 Wisdom (+4).

As per the chart on the Pathfinder SRD I get one extra 1st, 2nd, 3rd and forth level spell due to high wisdom.

On the Cleric's table I am told I have four 0 -level spells, two 1st level spells as well as the 1 domain spell

So when I combine the two together I can see two possibilities

The first possibility:

At second level my cleric gets

four 0 level spells
three 1st level spells (2 from the cleric list and 1 from the high Wisdom)
one domain spell

The second possibility:
four 0 level spells
three 1st level spells (2 from the cleric list and 1 from the high wisdom)
one 2nd level spell (because of high wisdom)
one 3rd level spell (because of high wisdom)
one 4th level spell (because of high wisdom)
one domain spell

Which one can I currently do? If it is the first possibility I assume I am able to add the 2nd, 3rd & 4th extra level spells when I go up to the appropriate level?

My final questions is regarding the spells I can choose to cast. At the start of the day when I meditate to get my spells, am I able to choose from the entire list of spells that are available to me? E.g. If I have access to first level spells can I chose from ALL the 1st level cleric skills (barring alignment restrictions etc) OR am I limited to only certain level 1 cleric spells I may have chosen when I first was able to access level 1 spells. basically, I am asking if I can chop and change the spells every day depending on what I might think is coming up that day.

I hope all that makes sense!

Cheers

the first possibility.

you will gain the bonus higher level spells when you gain access to the spell level on the cleric spell list.

aka 2nd level spells at 3rd, etc

and the 2nd question is yes, you can choose from the whole level 1 cleric spell list in the morning when you choose them, and can made choices in anticipation of things to come that day.

As Rath said. Here is a link for reference.

" In addition to having a high ability score, a spellcaster must be of a high enough class level to be able to cast spells of a given spell level."

Double ninja'd on the first question...

At second level you get:

four 0 level spells
four 1st level spells (2 from the cleric list, 1 from the high Wisdom, and one which can only be used to prepare domain spells.)

At fifth level you get:
four 0 level spells
five 1st level spells (3 from the cleric list, 1 from the high Wisdom, and one which can only be used to prepare domain spells.)
four 2nd level spells (2 from the cleric list, 1 from the high Wisdom, and one which can only be used to prepare domain spells.)
three 3rd level spells (1 from the cleric list, 1 from the high Wisdom, and one which can only be used to prepare domain spells.)

As for your second question, you can pick from the entire cleric spell list every day. When a new book comes out, you instantly add the entire cleric list from that book to the spells you can choose from each day. Clerics do not have a spells known list.

Thanks Ogre, for some reason I missed that sentence despite reading the page both in the core book and online several times!

No problem. I find new stuff and things that I've never noticed all the time.

Fixed that.

As a GM, I still reserve the right to deny a cleric spells prayed for which I feel for some reason the deity would not see fit to grant.(i.e: a cleric of a cold based deity who memorizes nothing but flame strikes day after day)

That being said, I almost never invoke that privilege.

Thanks guys,

The new cleric lists as they arrive aren't a problem, I'm the GM :-). I am running a new game and we are all new at pathfinder but one of the players won't always be able to make it, so when he isn't there I will be running it as a NPC/GMPC, when he's there he is running the character.

Neither of us were sure how to interrupt how to do the spells. This has helped us immensely!

Cheers
