It looks like there's a partial sentence: "Some magic items call out that a specific type of animal," and then a new sentence that is unrelated, "Plant and vermin companions do not gain automatic magic item slots." I'm pretty sure no magic item discusses what magic item slots a plant or vermin get. My guess is that first half sentence has something to do with items like horseshoes that call out that they work for a specific type of animal.

Thanks for pointing that out. That odd part at the beginning of the sentence came from the beginning of discussion of what to do when a magic item specifically says that a particular animal can wear it but that animal doesn't have that slot, as we've heard that there are a few cases of that situation popping up.
We plan to investigate how many such items there are and see if we can just clarify those items' slots to match the FAQ chart or if it's a larger issue.
If you know of any items that fall into that situation, can you post them here? Thanks!

The current FAQ doesn't let a lot of creatures that should wear saddles wear them. Bats at the top of the list, as they're explicitly listed as taking an exotic saddle. Axe beaks are called out as riding animals and mounts for tengu (and are pictured with saddles)
