So I'm looking to retrain a Ranger I made, and one suggestion involved using an Orc Hornbow- something a Ranger obviously isn't proficient with. The given solution was to use an expensive (and in my DM's words, something I'll have to find) ioun stone, but then I had a flash of inspiration.
The Training weapon enhancement allows you to put any combat feat on the weapon in question, and as long as you wield that weapon, you gain the benefits of that feat.
"Exotic Weapon Proficiency" is a combat feat. So the idea here is to enhance the Orc Hornbow with Training, select "Exotic Weapon Proficiency", and then boom! I can wield the Orc Hornbow just fine as long as I'm actually holding that specific one. But this does come with three questions:
-How many important feats would I be missing out on as a result of this decision, given the chosen feat can't be used as a prerequisite for any additional feats? That means anything that says "proficiency with selected weapon" is out for me, as well as potentially anything else.
-Given the aforementioned question, would I even be able to use any of my feats with the enhanced Hornbow?
-Given the wording of Exotic Weapon Proficiency, would I technically have to make my choice each and every time I grabbed or wielded the weapon?

Good questions the only feats you have to worry with are Prof. feats like Weapon focus so for instance Point blank shot doesn't require proficiency to take so your all good. As to the last question as far as i know when a weapon is made Training and the feat in question has a choice involved it is probably locked in at creation.
My question is (I haven't read the other thread) why not just use one of your feats when retraining so that you don't have to worry about what happens if you lose "your" Hornbow or it gets broken or destroyed?
