GAME NOTES
--------------------
Talberon racks his brains but can only stir some memories of what he heard others refer to as the "unpleasantness in Sandpoint", a series of tragedies that have hit the town the past few years: fire, serial murder, and, yes, a goblin raid. Not a few miles out of town, he recalls, are rocky hills, perfect terrain for goblins to thrive.

Struck by a dead body flung by an Ogre at the Sandport Docks!

"What know you of this Armin Gyenis, his ship the Demeter, and why House Jeggare would have it sail thus far North?"/ "The House Jaggare? Their ships stick to inner sea, no profit in runnin' one all the way this far north. Leastways, one as small as the Demeter over there..." Ben gestures seaward where a ship has just cleared the harbor on its way to open ocean. "No sir, that one's built for coastal sailing and a small load. Wouldn't come up here unless it was somethin' real valuable."

Talberon never fancied the blade as his father, Bydern Toil, had hoped he would. He had no desire in his early years to follow in his abusive father's footsteps as a hired blade.

Talberon preferred to stay at home and help his mother, Annalyn Toil, with things in the tannery shop, and read. The adventures in the tomes of books he read interested Talby, as his few friends called him, more than any actual adventures his father professed to have when he was in from travelling.

It was early on that Annalyn, his mother, suspected his penchant for magic and gave him his grandfather's, on his mother's side, ring. She only described it as a family 'heirloom' and nothing more, not wanting to rile her husband's dislike of the craft, and the repercussions that would follow if he found out.

It wasn't until Talby's tenth summer that he discovered the possibilities of the gift his mother had given him, in the shape of an ordinary ring. He was working in the tannery when a couple local bullies came in to pick up some hides for one of their parents. As bullies do, one pushed Talby and he fell into an acidic soak tank for bleaching animal hides. The liquid splashed up his arms and onto his face.

Without thinking, Talby rose and unleashed something channeled through himself, and the ring, at the bully, knocking him flat where he stood. The other boys fled in a panic. Annalyn found her son straddled across the bully with a maddening gaze in his eye. She pulled her son of the other older boy, and dismissed him with a wave of her hand, before she confronted her son.

She doctored Talby as best she could, but the accident left his forearms and half of his face bleached nearly white. Scarring and disfiguring him for life.

When Talby's father came home, the altercation was explained as a simple fight that resulted in an accident, with no mention of the use of arcane arts by Talby. Bydern insisted that Talby pick up a blade and tried to instruct the boy in its use. Talby played along whenever his father was in, not wanting to incur his wraith. His interest had been peeked instead, by the events of the altercation, and he began to delve into books of arcane study, which his mother had hid from his father.

It was Talby's sixteenth summer when his father never returned. His mother took the disappearance hard, and the following year Talberon Toil set out on his own, with his meager spell book and one of his father's swords…
