But something just doesn't click with players: They keep the cards, but they don't often read the extra effects and much less use these effects. When asked why that is, they tell me that the card didn't do anything that felt useful to them. So I started curating the hero point deck I use at my table, but that didn't improve things much. They still mostly use them to re-roll a check or for death saves. Ultimately, it feels like the deck fixes something that wasn't really broken. I would use this deck more if the effects were stronger. They could even be OP, because then people would stop saving them for death saves.
What an excellent one shot! This is the one you pull out when you want to drink some beers, and have a fun, silly and over-the-top Pathfinder evening just enjoying yourself. The scenario doesn't take itself all too seriously, so a competent GM can run this in anything between 2.5 and 4 hours. I think it would be hard to stretch this one across two evenings, unless you add more content. There are very few issues, but here are a few tips: GM Tips:
* The optional head-shot rule is a lot of fun! However, zombies have such low AC and gunslingers such high attack modifiers, that there will be more crits than normal hits. I would recommend turning the Zombies into Elite Zombies if using head-shot rule. * For the main street, it says that zombies respawn after 3 rounds of combat. No combat lasts 3 rounds, mostly the zombies don't even get to act before they're dead. * The area "Theatre director's home" is never mentioned. But it can totally change the tone of this adventure with players impersonating as Zombies. You might want to let a patron at the Powder Horn drop a hint for this. * A good playlist definitely helps the mood. I made one on Spotify, feel free to use it. Non-Mint Unavailable Versatile Setstese —This is a very versatile set, offering sea, sand, cavern, rocky shore and scraggy grass tiles. It allows you to create a large variety of environments. The only issue I have are the cavern tiles: there are a ton of cavern entrances, but almost all of them from the grass to the cavern biome. What about desert caves? What about the other biomes? Also, it is missing cavern ends or open spaces. So you can’t really build a meaningful cavern. All in all, one of the better sets or the series, but like all of them it’s missing some thought to make the sets more compatible with each other and making them more versatile. They end up not being as useful as they could be. Pathfinder Bestiary 2 Pawn CollectionPaizo Inc.Add Print Edition $39.99 Add PDF $9.99 Non-Mint Unavailable Box sorely missingstese —The pawns are as good and complete as one has come to expect from Paizo, but the rest is not: There are no bases and there is no box. While I don’t mind not getting any additional bases, the lack of a box means that the pawns will fall out and are much easier to lose. What was ‘kind of’ ok with the few sheets of Game Mastery Pawns is no longer ok when you get 20 sheets of pawns in a loose paper wrap. I truly hope the Bestiary 3 pawns will come in a box again. They really get the job done. Also, the criticism that there are not enough cards of a certain type has not come true for me. The fact that there are so many conditions still makes them a bit cumbersome, but I can hardly blame that on the cards. BUT, they are so ugly! No nice art, nit even nice typography, no visual elements at all. No love went into these cards. Which is kinda sad, because they are such an important tool. It's a great book. A lot of the most important stuff is in the Core Rulebook already, but if you're serious about creating your own creatures or treasure, this is essential. Especially because the math on PF2 is so much tighter, you can't go wrong doing it right. I really can't complain about anything that is in the book, but about stuff that is missing: FUN! I was browsing the game mastery guide of first edition not too long ago, and that book makes you laugh, be inspired, and just want to jump to the drawing board and create an adventure. Random name generators, npc personality traits, tavern menus, it's all there to inspire you. While this book, meh. It's about teaching you more rules. Useful, yes, but ultimately not very heartwarming. |
