as the title suggests, i was on my way to speedway thinking about this debate about trolls and regeneration and death effects from awhile back on these boards and then i thought....what about death knell? that is a second level cleric/inquisitor,witch spell. Is the spell Death knell a death effect? therefore does it qualify for the special rules of death effects simply because it has death in the spell school brackets? if so then it is a second level spell that is powerful enough to shut down a fifth level spell as an after effect.
what are your thoughts... is this what was intended? is this RAW or RAI neither, a glitch?
not terribly interested in house rules sorry.

As a for instance, in a campaign where polymorph any object gives creature type, would using it to counter a Maze spell by turning the target into a Minotaur be acceptable. Or a spectral handed gaseous form on a would be baleful polymorph target. Possibly even putting up a wall of force last second in front of a fireball caster.
Are these acceptable uses of the readied action to counter? They seem like it to me only more creative, but I was wondering if anyone had an arguments against these types of counters. I was also interested in hearing others stories of last second creative counters that others may have used.

does a spellcraft roll to determine what spell is being cast also determine what metamagic effects are on said spell?

2 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

Has anyone encountered, ruled on, or considered the effects the apg had on the limited wish spell?
Limited wish=...Duplicate any non-sorcerer/wizard spell of 5th level or lower, provided the spell does not belong to one of your opposition
schools.

with the addition of the summoner and inquisitor class lists there are effects that maybe weren't completely considered.

now able to duplicate:ethereal jaunt
creeping doom 7th lvl druid
invisibility, mass
plane shift
spell turning
summon monster
sequester
teleport, greater
banishment
simulacrum
dont even feel like listing the inquisitor spells. they have some good ones too.
As i read it some great new options....all are seventh level wizard effects too.limited wish got better, those spells got worse. if it wasn't for the 1500 gp cost per cast, the wizard versions of the above would be moot.
Have there been any official rulings on this yet?
i'm fairly certain it wasnt taken into consideration when planning out the spell leveling for the new base classes.

If you cast permanent invisibility on an object, does it then count as a magical material? say for the purposes of shrink item or animate objects.
more generally do items count as magical if under the effects of any spell at all? and is it for all intents and purposes?
i.e. does a magic mouth give an item the advantage of the improved saves listed under damaging magic items?(2+half the caster level rounded down)
I'm looking for logical and rules based answers please. i can house rule on my own.
thanks
