I'm pretty sure it's more complicated than just gathering them

Spoiler:

It's my understanding that the Fulcrum Lattice needs to be installed at the top of the Gauntlight lighthouse with all four lenses in place to restore the Gauntlight. Before that can happen, the lenses need to be charged in the Empty Vault, but one at a time, because they're dangerous all in one place (obviously).

The issues to completion have been the two barriers between the books and Belcorra being site-bound to the bottom three levels of the dungeon.

So, near as I can tell, It's not possible to move the Fulcrum Lattice and Lenses into position until the Urevian barrier comes down. And even then, Belcorra is sitebound to the lower three levels, so she needs her minions to do it, and the PCs have been undoubtedly killing those on their way down.

At the time the PCs arrive in the Empty Vault, she is charging the Ebon Lens. I don't recall if that's the first or last lens that needs charging, but in any case, she's still waiting on at least one loading bar to finish.

“Coming in Winter 2024”

Is that the Winter that ends in March 2024 or the Winter that begins in December 2024?

I assume it’s not the Australian Winter that starts in June. :)

That adjustment is almost exactly what I was going to house rule. Actually , I was just going to insert a Stage 1 "carrier only" stage, but I like this a lot better.

As far as leveling, that's exactly what I did, but their only casters are both Arcane (sadface). I've yet to introduce them to Snowy Owl (I thought they might meet on "the road"), but it sounds like I need to have her in or near the Temple!

Thanks much!

Alright, I made a "mistake" and tried to run Dreamers of the Nameless Spires as a single adventure for a group that was level 7 after finishing Malevolence.

Only one of the players rebuilt a new PC as a Gatewalker, so I used him to invite the others into the plot. This meant that most of them have no Blackfrost immunity. So, of course, one of them contracted Blackfrost in the very first fight at the Temple of Findeladlara. And of course, they have no one who can Remove Curse.

So now I'm stuck looking at the long-term implications of the Blackfrost affliction rules and it feels wonky.

It can't be reduced below Stage 1. So, if a person at Stage 1 succeeds at their save, they stay at Stage 1. Do they take the damage again or do they only take the damage again when they come back to Stage 1 from Stage 2?

If they take the damage again immediately, we have an affliction where the better result is to fail your Fort save. If they don't take the damage again, we're stuck making pointless die rolls every minute until they fail, in which case the period on Stage 1 should just also be 1 day.

In either case, though, the better result is still to roll low because it's safer to walk around with Drained 2 than to take unhealable damage. It seems like the proper treatment is to Stupefy the lowest-Wisdom character and get them to Treat Disease, hoping for a crit fail.

any advice?

On page 18, the Shadowshift Field routine makes every creature in the clearing make a Fortitude save.

On a critical success, one of the effects is "The land is healed 1d6 points by the primal magic."

I don't know what is meant by this.

We transitioned our 10-year, 2-edition d&d world to pathfinder this year and I’ve been running Abomination Vaults by subbing Otari in for an unexplored town and subbing in a nearby major city for Absalom.

I did a couple of other things to make the Drow, Nhimbaloth, and Wisps integrate with the world better, but those were pretty minor.

Here's what I did:

I made the ritual 2nd level rather than 3rd so they could use it as soon as they found it in Nakazharin's temple. I put the blueprints there, too, so they now had a goal of getting to the portals they had not yet found, which worked better than the Otari trails at getting them motivated to move forward.

I let critical successes automatically connect and activate the next floor down, but it won't work across the two book-barriers. They haven't taken down the barrier between books 1 and 2 yet, so this hasn't helped yet, but they did crit on the Level 4 portal.

So far, it's been interesting to them. They tricked their way past the werewolf guy and then ran from the voidglutton into the altar room. At the end of the session, they were surrounded by enemies, but had a goal of cutting through the level to the portal on their map so they could do their ritual and get out.

Today our sorcerer awoke the trash chute poltergeist, critically failed her save against being frightened, and fled down the garbage chute, and then head-first into Otari and the three wisps.

She's not the one we memorialize today. She went down in one round and would have died but for a hero point. Then the party found her and healed her and defeated the wisps.

While that was happening, however, the chaotic neutral cleric Marcus Aurelia opened the door to Volluk Azrinae's chamber and offered to be a double agent. Azrinae agreed. As a cover, Marcus asked to have a spell cast on him so he could tell the others he ran from a losing fight.

Volluk instead hit him with a tendril, giving him persistent leech damage as he fled. In a panic and unable to find the rest of the group, Marcus failed ten straight rolls to remove the leeches and was consumed.

He might be back as Volluk's new Worm that Walks bodyguard.

I have two architects in my game, and they tend to be annoyed by wide, spacious obvious encounter areas. FWIW, we find the more cramped spaces refreshing and an interesting challenge.

The only time we have a problem with them is when two encounters are right next to and in line of sight of each other (like the library and reading room on level 3 of AV, which I just ended up putting a wall and door between).

Thank you. I checked that out - can I assume you meant the kenku Kaako Ashfeather and the halfling Lavanna Saltspray?

That’s correct! I cut off Lavanna’s art in the middle of the trident to make it look more like a pitchfork.

This is fantastic!

Thanks so much. Hoping to see much more of this in the future!

for #2, I already had Sundered Waves and Fall of Plaguestone, so I used some of those images.

The halfling and tengu PC from Sundered Waves worked for Jala Highstepper and Magiloy. And then I filled in the rest of the town NPCs with various faces from Plaguestone. I haven't run it, so I have no idea who they're supposed to be.

I find it useful to give "less important" NPCs art in a similar style so the players can't figure out who's important by the token pictures.

I have not compiled #1 or #3, but would also love to have them if anyone has them.

No mnemonics will ever get me to keep Aballon, Absalom, and Akiton straight.

Just rename all the other planets "A-[syllable]-omn" and be done with it.
