Hey all,

September game didn't go quite as expected. In fact we didn't even get to the second session, since the low-level table didn't have the numbers and the high level table ran overtime for the 1st session. Thus, we didn't get around to playing #29: The Devil We Know—Part I: Shipyard Rats. We'll postpone it until 2nd October.

Luke_Parry wrote:

Hmmm... Well, could I put in some requests for October?

Season 0: #28, Lyrics of Extinction
Season 1: #31, Sniper in the Deep

I've had a look at #28, Lyrics of Extinction and it's a Tier 7-8 and 10-11. Most of the high level table are only level 6 (or level 5) at the moment.

But for October, I can't see why we couldn't run #31, Sniper in the Deep for the morning session and #29: The Devil We Know—Part I: Shipyard Rats for the afternoon session.

penrith tin soldier is moving to a bigger store with more room for gaming and we want to get pathfinder going there. they are talking proper gaming tables with decent seating more access to dungeon masters just need to get the members on the forum and get the players keen

http://penrithgameslounge.com/groups/paizo-pathfinder-society-organised-pla y/

ive made a group so if people could start joining so we can get some awesome game days booked in

neil and co. if this sounds like a good idea can u private email me and email listings that i can use to send announcements updates

gaming at the new penrith store will give players good deals on books and accessories and specials for roleplayers who attend often etc... details arent final until i see some movement on the forums ;)

Can't see why this has to be limited to Australia. The 'Net is planetwide, so it's just a matter of time zones.

I remember an article on d20 Source about using Google Calendar to organise players across time zone. Each player selects time periods in the week they can commit to, and Google Calendar adjusts the time zones, showing when in the week there's a suitable block of time for everyone.

ooo i will look into it

at the moment the games being run are all 12:00 ET Sundays

which i think is like 3am Monday for AUS

Part of our gaming group is moving away. We would like to keep gaming with each other, but a few thousand miles is a bit much to commute.

We would like to do something where we can game basically live (not play by post) via computer. It would be nice to include some kind of webcam (ala skype or similar) as well as some form of screen sharing. Add to that some kind of easy to use sharable map software to help with orientation for battles and that's essentially what I'm looking for.

I'm tired of waiting for WotC to come out with their platform.

Is anyone using something that is similar to the above scenario? Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it work well? How do others game with each other remotely?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

does this game still run? looking for an extra player?

For the past few weeks, my group has been using MapTool.

I just had my first virtual tabletop-experience yesterday. I ran the Graul farm encounters from Hook mountain massacre with Maptool. It worked beautifully. Macros are the key to fast virtual play.

As good as Maptool was, Pygon's software sounds interesting. I think I'll give it a try someday. But I can recommend Maptool for everyone, it's quite good software...

That is great to hear! After a few sessions you really start to get the hang of things. I forgot to mention, I also use the Init Tool that is made by the same team as Maptool. It rocks for combat. So, my setup: Maptool, Init Tool, Skype. I cannot recommend this setup enough!

Basically my prep time involves the following:

  • Maps: Copy map from PDF, and apply vbl's in Maptool. I suggest making small Campaign files so that they are easier to load. For example, I keep my campaigns to about 4 maps max.
  • Tokens: Add NPCs to the maps, apply the relevant stats to NPCs, and save them (important!)
  • Combat Encounters: If there are any potential combats I set up an encounter group in Init Tool.

That is basically it.

wow i cant believe people are doing this :) ive beent rying to get involved with this style of gaming through chat for a while... are tehse games still runing is there anyone i could talk to about joining in?

Maptool is free. And runs on anything with java (mac, windows, whatever).

We game every week using maptools and skype. We only really use maptools for initiative tracking, miniatures and maps. The vision and light tools are fantastic, making it much easier to track what players and critters can and cannot see. We use actual dice for all the rolls. Nobody's taking away our dice.

If you've got some graphic arts or photoshop skills, you can make pretty ripping maps, from or inspired by the ones in published pieces. Or, if you're not, you can at least match or exceed the markerboard maps you're used to.

When I play (as opposed to DM), the rest of the group uses a webcam and miniatures. It's a little less fine-toothed, but still doable. I use the maptools when I DM because I got tired of people complaining 'I didn't know my character was there.' When I play, I usually just let the other players guide my mini (but I'm playing a frenzied berserker, so fine tactics aren't super-important).

But it is very doable. I like being able to hang out once a week with my buddies, even though they're 300 miles away. Now, if only they'd order me pizza.

Let me know if you have any questions about it. I've learned from a few mistakes.

Do you have a full group or is anyone else running something like this?

I was talking to rowan and he didnt seem to think anyone would be keen on game mastering but if someones going to run it i can bring three players inc myself

....

is this neil who runs blacktowns society games? we are coming to join there also lol

Grrr, postmonster ate my original post. Let's try again:

That quote of my post is rather old now (I posted it Jan 2009). At the time I made a major effort to organise a Society game day at Penrith in Soldier. It was a flop due to lack of interest so I decided to leave it for a few months. At the end of 2009 I got word that Andy, a friend of mine, was organising a society game in Blacktown and that he had already gathered enough interest to need another DM. So I offered him a helping hand and the game has since proved fairly popular (although numbers tend to vary from month to month). As such, I never actually started up a Society game at Penrith.

Rowan is right though. In my experience few gamers are willing to DM. Go figure.

yeh i have actually been seeking society games because i have been DM for five years now only getting to play once as a character and it lasted like four games before the party got bored of the adventure due to a new DM so no fault of his just new players not being able to mould the adventure for their own enjoyment... (drone players/ war gamers) grrrrr.

maybe after some games of society i will help out with running some games just need a break from it for a while :)

is the game on for this saturday because my cousin and i are keen to play maybe a third joining us :)
